Chapter 690: Determination
J'onn Stands Alone
J'onn didn't know how to comfort her, nor how to convince himself, so he just said gravely,
"Don't be so downcast. Trust Luke. He's the smartest person in the world. Since he set up this plan, he definitely prepared a way out. All we have to do is drag out this fight until he returns."
Diana wiped away her tears.
"I have never doubted him. I know he will come back."
As they spoke, the hostile twin approached them, stopping five hundred meters away. It scrutinized J'onn with an exceedingly strange look.
"You are not her. You are that human. You... how did you do that?"
A human possessing the Mother Entity's body was unbelievable!
J'onn took a step forward, his voice chilling.
"Some things that the Gods cannot do, does not mean we cannot."
The hostile twin, now a teenager, nodded thoughtfully. Its cognitive abilities had improved greatly, and many memory fragments buried deep in its soul, a large portion of which came from the Gods, had surfaced.
J'onn frowned. "Why have you changed like this?"
"This is my true form, on the condition that I eat you."
The twin excitedly licked its lips. "Since she is gone, this body is mine. Get lost quickly, or I'll eat you too."
"I'm sorry. This body cannot be yours."
J'onn roared, sending hundreds of tentacles attacking forward, but the twin blocked them in the same manner. The tentacles continuously collided in mid-air. Each impact unleashed a visible shockwave.
As time passed, the twin, with fewer tentacles, gained the upper hand, and J'onn fell into a decline. He frowned slightly, opened his mouth wide, and fired a seven-colored energy column.
The column of light shot out, vanished at a certain point, and then reappeared behind the twin in a bizarre manner.
Boom!
The twin was heavily struck in the back. Dozens of its tentacles were instantly reduced to blood mist.
The twin said smugly, "You are no match for me now. I am the strongest."
It curled its right hand and punched the air.
The air in front violently exploded. An invisible force passed through layers of space and slammed hard into J'onn. The pain that shot through his body was like being run over by a truck. He was uncontrollably blasted backward.
The twin pressed its advantage. Its left foot stepped out, and in the next second, it appeared above J'onn. It used no superpower, only a single punch—a punch that seemed to pierce space, carrying supreme might.
Boom!
The air burst, and the force tore straight through J'onn's body, leaving a bright red blood hole.
J'onn spat blood, forcibly waving his remaining tentacles. They were met by a dense hail of white light blades. The blades sliced back and forth, cutting off every tentacle. The final blow pierced J'onn's eye, leaving a white path that refused to heal.
This was a completely unequal fight.
At this moment, J'onn finally understood why Luke had been so urgent. He was right. Once the Mother Entity consumed the hostile twin, it would become an existence that transcended all others.
And vice versa for the twin.
"Run away, human. This is your last chance."
The twin spread its hands. Dense illusions emerged behind it. Dozens of these illusions simultaneously opened their mouths and fired colossal energy columns.
J'onn gritted his teeth, forcibly erecting an energy barrier in front of him. It lasted only a quarter of a second before shattering. His body was struck by the energy columns, plummeting straight down.
"I've become so strong. If I eat you, I'll become even stronger."
The twin cackled. Its body continuously flickered in the air. Each time it appeared, it left behind an illusion. The illusions multiplied, threatening to fill the space.
J'onn looked on expressionlessly, seemingly resigned to his fate. When the illusions reached him, he suddenly opened his mouth and fired an incredibly brilliant beam of light.
Light—energy compressed to the extreme, carrying invincible destructive power.
"I knew you would do that!"
The twin laughed smugly, about to flash away, when its mind was suddenly struck. It watched helplessly as the beam of light struck its chest.
Its chest began to swell, emitting a thudding sound. With a flash of fire,
Boom!
Its body burst open like a squeezed balloon. The explosions were continuous, looking like blooming fireworks from afar.
J'onn gasped for breath.
"In an Eastern saying: You're too green, kid."
Boasting before victory—the twin didn't realize this. It thought it had the upper hand, but reality delivered a severe blow. Its body was blown to pieces, and parts of its flesh were even evaporated into molecules.
This attack inflicted unprecedented damage. Its body was reduced to bloody paste, scattered everywhere. J'onn pursued, continuously blasting the scattered fragments of flesh.
Even so, the hostile twin didn't die. It reformed its body, using a severed arm as a base, returning to its original appearance. Compared to before, its aura had clearly diminished, and the light in its eyes was much dimmer.
"Damn human! You are hateful!"
"I will kill you all!"
Its response was a seven-colored energy column. The twin clenched its fist and shattered the energy column. Then, it threw its head back and sang loudly. The angry song resonated deep in J'onn's soul like exploding bombs.
J'onn clutched his head, his eyeballs bulging outward, clearly in immense pain.
"Die!"
The twin brought its fingers together like a sword. White light pulsed from the tip.
Pfft!
A dozens-of-meters-long blade of light pierced the void, running straight through J'onn's brow and vanishing into the deep darkness.
Blood and brain matter mixed together, bubbling outward. J'onn activated the body's life force, forcibly healing the wound, but the wound on his mind grew larger and larger.
His head was intimately connected to his mind. J'onn was not Luke, nor was he the Mother Entity with hundreds of divine souls that could constantly heal. His soul strength was limited; he couldn't fight endlessly.
"But, even if I die, I must land one final, fatal blow."
J'onn gritted his teeth, staring fixedly at his opponent. Energy continuously compressed within his body, gradually forming a sphere.
The twin realized something was wrong and frowned.
"Human, what are you trying to do? I'm warning you, don't mess around."
J'onn ignored the warning. His body darted forward, rushing toward the twin at extreme speed.
"You're asking for death!"
The twin waved its tentacles, slicing out a dense barrage of blades. J'onn didn't dodge. He let the blades hack at his body. Although he had lost two-thirds of the body's life essence, its strength was still at a super-god level. Ordinary attacks had no effect, and even powerful energy blades only tore the surface flesh.
Sensing trouble, the twin stopped its probing attacks. It waved its hands, creating a continuously writhing spatial vortex in front of itself.
The moment J'onn entered the vortex, his body began to break apart. Wounds covered his entire being. He felt immense pain with every step forward.
J'onn simply shielded his senses. Like a block of wood, he burst out of the vortex, right in front of the twin.
No wasted words. He immediately detonated the energy sphere inside his body.
Blinding light illuminated the heavens and the earth, followed by a destructive wave of energy. A continuously expanding sun appeared in the sky. Where the light reached, there was only the dawn of utter devastation.
