The galaxy had begun to change.
For over a thousand years, the Jedi Order had stood as the Republic's greatest guardians. The Sith were believed to have vanished into history, becoming little more than stories recorded in ancient holocrons.
That illusion had now been shattered.
Master Qui-Gon Jinn had fallen.
A Sith had revealed himself once more.
The Jedi Council could no longer ignore the darkness gathering beyond the horizon.
Yet even amidst the uncertainty, hope had appeared in the most unlikely of places.
On the distant desert world of Tatooine, a young slave boy named Anakin Skywalker had entered the Jedi Order under the guidance of Grand Master Yoda himself. Whether that decision would become a blessing or a burden remained to be seen, but one thing was certain.
The Force had begun to move.
While the Jedi prepared for the future, another crisis demanded their immediate attention.
Naboo remained occupied.
The Trade Federation still controlled the capital, and every hour that passed was another hour the people suffered beneath their rule.
The Republic had finally begun to respond.
Following an emergency session of the Galactic Senate, Chancellor Finis Valorum had been removed from office. By overwhelming support, Senator Sheev Palpatine of Naboo had been elected the new Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic.
The newly elected Chancellor immediately began organizing a Republic task force to break the Federation blockade.
But Queen Amidala refused to wait.
Her people had already suffered enough.
If Naboo was to be liberated, she would fight for it herself.
And so, accompanied by Grand Master Yoda, Jedi Master Dooku, Padawan Khan Kage, Captain Panaka, and a small contingent of Naboo guards, the Queen once again departed Coruscant for her occupied homeworld.

The silver Nubian starship traveled silently through hyperspace.
Inside the main cabin, holographic maps of Naboo floated above the central table as everyone gathered to discuss their strategy.
Queen Amidala stood at the head of the table.
Though still young, there was confidence in the way she carried herself. The uncertainty Khan had seen when they first fled Naboo had all but disappeared.
She looked every bit the Queen her people needed.
"Master Yoda," Padmé said respectfully, "thank you for accompanying us."
Yoda gave a small smile.
"Need not thank us, Your Majesty. Protect the innocent... the duty of the Jedi it is."
Padmé inclined her head.
"Even so... your presence gives my people hope."
Dooku folded his hands behind his back.
"Hope is often the first step toward victory."
Khan stood quietly beside his master.
His thoughts briefly wandered back to Coruscant.
"I hope Anakin is settling into the Temple."
Yoda looked toward him.
"Worry not, Padawan."
"In Master Windu's care for now, the young one is."
"When return we do... continue his training, I shall."
Khan nodded.
"I suppose he's asking everyone a hundred questions by now."
A faint chuckle escaped Dooku.
"I imagine Master Windu is discovering just how energetic your young friend can be."
Even Padmé smiled.
"He certainly keeps everyone around him busy."
The brief moment of laughter eased some of the tension aboard the ship.
It didn't last long.
Dooku turned his attention back toward the holographic map.
"Your Majesty."
Padmé nodded.
"Our plan begins with the Gungans."
She activated part of the hologram, highlighting the vast swamps covering Naboo.
"Representative Zef has already managed to establish contact with Boss Nass."
"The Gungans were never targeted by the Trade Federation. They've retreated deeper into the swamps and remain safe."
Captain Panaka crossed his arms.
"If we can convince them to fight alongside us, we'll have the army we need."
Dooku studied the map.
"A sound strategy."
His finger pointed toward Theed.
"But what of the blockade above the planet?"
Padmé answered immediately.
"Chancellor Palpatine is organizing Republic assistance."
She paused.
"But those forces won't arrive immediately."
"Our objective is not to destroy the Federation."
"It is to retake our capital before more lives are lost."
Khan nodded slowly.
"So while the Republic applies pressure from orbit..."
"...we strike from the surface."
"Exactly," Padmé replied.
"The Gungans will engage the droid army outside Theed."
"That should draw the majority of the Federation's forces away from the city."
Captain Panaka pointed toward the Royal Palace.
"Meanwhile, a smaller strike team infiltrates the palace."
"Our objective?"
"The Viceroy."
Padmé's voice became firm.
"We capture Nute Gunray alive."
"If we remove the Federation's leadership, their occupation collapses."
Dooku considered the proposal carefully.
"It is bold."
"But achievable."
Then his expression became more serious.
"There remains one variable."
Everyone already knew the answer.
"The Sith."
Silence settled across the cabin.
Yoda finally spoke.
"If appear, the Sith does..."
His ancient eyes opened.
"Deal with him... we shall."
Khan unconsciously rested a hand near the hilt of his lightsaber.
This would be his fourth encounter.
He would not underestimate his opponent again.
Dooku noticed the movement.
"You will not face him alone this time."
Khan looked toward his master.
"I know."
"And that gives me confidence."
Dooku gave a slight nod.
"As it should."
Padmé looked around the room.
Each person carried their own burden.
The Naboo guards would soon fight for their homes.
Captain Panaka would risk everything for his Queen.
The Jedi would face an enemy thought extinct.
And she...
She would lead them all.
Padmé took a slow breath before speaking.
"Then let us bring liberation to my home, Naboo."
No one questioned her resolve.
Outside the viewport, hyperspace continued to rush endlessly forward.
Soon, the blue world of Naboo would come back into view.
And with it...
The battle that would decide the fate of an entire planet.
The silver Nubian cruiser emerged from hyperspace in complete silence.
Almost immediately, Khan adjusted the controls, guiding the ship away from the Trade Federation blockade that encircled Naboo.
The massive Lucrehulk battleships floated like iron giants above the planet, their patrol routes carefully monitored by countless droid starfighters.
One mistake...
One wrong movement...
And everything would be over before it had even begun.
Captain Panaka leaned over the navigation display.
"We're approaching the patrol perimeter."
Padmé nodded.
"Activate the Republic stealth system."
"Already on it."
A faint hum echoed through the ship as one of the Republic's newest military technologies activated. The Nubian cruiser shimmered briefly before disappearing from enemy scanners.
It wasn't true invisibility.
A visual sighting would still expose them.
But as long as they stayed clear of patrol routes, the Trade Federation's sensors would never know they were there.
Everyone aboard the ship remained silent.
Even Anakin wasn't there to fill the room with questions.
The only sound was the steady hum of the engines.
Seconds passed.
Then minutes.
Khan kept both hands firmly on the controls.
Slowly...
Carefully...
The blockade drifted farther behind them.
Finally, the ship broke through Naboo's atmosphere.
Only then did the tension begin to fade.
Several Naboo guards released breaths they hadn't realized they were holding.
Captain Panaka smiled faintly.
"We're through."
Khan allowed himself a quiet exhale.
"Step one is complete."
Padmé immediately entered a new set of coordinates.
"Our meeting point with Boss Nass."
The ship banked toward the endless swamps stretching across Naboo.
As the autopilot corrected their course, Khan stepped beside her.
"Are you ready?"
Padmé looked through the cockpit window.
Far below lay her home.
Occupied.
Scarred.
Waiting.
"I have to be."
She smiled softly.
"Besides..."
She looked toward Khan.
"I know you'll be nearby."
"That alone keeps my resolve steady."
Khan returned the smile.
"You've never needed me to stand."
"You've always had that strength."
Their eyes met for only a moment.
Long enough for the unspoken understanding between them to surface once again.
Nearby, Dooku noticed.
His expression remained unreadable.
Young hearts, he thought.
There would be time to worry about such things after Naboo had been saved.
For now...
Duty came first.
A short time later, the Nubian cruiser settled into a quiet clearing hidden deep within Naboo's swamplands.
The landing ramp lowered with a soft hiss.
Warm air carrying the scent of moss and fresh water drifted inside.
Waiting outside were dozens of Gungan warriors armed with energy shields and electropole staffs.
Standing at their head was Boss Nass.
Broad-shouldered and imposing, the Gungan leader wore ceremonial armor decorated with symbols of his people. His eyes carefully studied each newcomer as they descended the ramp.
Padmé stepped forward first.
Her posture immediately changed.
No longer the young woman who had fled Naboo...
Before them stood Queen Amidala.
She bowed respectfully.
"Greetings, Boss Nass."
"It is an honor to meet you again."
Boss Nass gave a slow nod.
"Welcome back, Your Highness."
Representative Zef's hologram popped beside him.
"Mesa tell Boss Nass everything."
"He know da Federation still occupy Naboo."
Boss Nass folded his arms.
"Yousa ask for da Gungan army."
"No small thing."
Padmé nodded.
"I know."
Boss Nass looked directly into her eyes.
"Den tell mesa..."
"Why should da Gungans fight for da Naboo?"
Silence followed.
Even the surrounding warriors waited for her answer.
Padmé didn't respond immediately.
Instead...
She slowly walked forward until only a few steps separated them.
"When I first became Queen..."
"I believed our greatest responsibility was protecting our own people."
She paused.
"I was wrong."
Boss Nass remained silent.
"Our greatest responsibility..."
"...is protecting all the people of Naboo."
She looked toward the gathered Gungans.
"For generations..."
"Our ancestors allowed fear and misunderstanding to divide us."
"Naboo lived above the lakes."
"The Gungans below them."
"We shared a planet..."
"...yet never truly shared our home."
Several Gungans quietly listened.
"The Trade Federation does not care whether we are Gungan or Naboo."
"They see only a world to exploit."
"They will strip Naboo of its resources."
"They will enslave its people."
"And once they are finished with us..."
She looked directly at Boss Nass.
"They will come for yours."
The Gungan leader's expression slowly hardened.
Padmé continued.
"I cannot erase the mistakes of the past."
"But I can choose the future."
She lowered herself to one knee.
A Queen...
Kneeling before another leader.
"I ask not as Queen of the Naboo..."
"But as someone who wishes to build a better Naboo."
"A Naboo where Gungan and Naboo stand together."
"Where neither rules above the other."
"Where both peoples have equal voices."
"I swear before everyone gathered here..."
"If we reclaim our home..."
"...the Gungans will stand beside the Naboo as equals."
Not subjects.
Not outsiders.
Equals.
The swamp fell completely silent.
Even Khan found himself watching with admiration.
Dooku folded his arms.
"Remarkable."
He spoke quietly enough that only Khan heard.
"She has already begun to grow into the ruler her people need."
Khan nodded.
"I was thinking the same."
Boss Nass stared at the kneeling Queen for several long seconds.
Then...
Slowly...
A smile spread across his face.
"Yousa changed."
Padmé looked up.
Boss Nass stepped forward.
"Mesa remember da little Queen who afraid."
He extended his hand.
"But today..."
"Mesa see a leader."
Padmé accepted the offered hand as Boss Nass helped her to her feet.
The Gungan leader turned toward his warriors.
"Lissen up!"
His booming voice echoed throughout the swamp.
"Da Naboo no longer stand apart from da Gungans."
He raised his staff high.
"From dis day..."
"Yousa people..."
"...and mesa people..."
"...stand together!"
The surrounding Gungans erupted into cheers.
"Gunga!"
"Gunga!"
"Gunga!"
Their voices echoed across the marshlands.
Boss Nass turned toward one of his generals.
"Prepare da Grand Army."
"We march to Theed."
The general saluted immediately.
"Yes, Boss Nass!"
Warriors rushed in every direction.
Weapons were gathered.
Mounts prepared.
Drums began echoing throughout the swamps as thousands of Gungan soldiers answered the call.
Khan watched the army come alive.
Beside him, Dooku rested a hand against the hilt of his lightsaber.
"The battle for Naboo has begun."
Far above them...
Unseen beyond the clouds...
The Trade Federation remained completely unaware that an army was preparing to march toward them.
Queen Amidala spent the next several minutes explaining the plan to Boss Nass and his generals.
The Gungan Grand Army would march onto the Naboo Plains and engage the Trade Federation's droid army in open battle. They did not need to destroy the droids outright. Their duty was to hold the enemy's attention for as long as possible.
While the Federation committed the bulk of its forces against the Gungans, Queen Amidala would lead an elite team of Naboo Royal Guards, accompanied by Master Yoda, Master Dooku, and Khan Kage, through a lesser-used route into Theed. Their objective was simple—capture Viceroy Nute Gunray and force the Trade Federation's surrender before more lives were lost.
Boss Nass listened carefully, occasionally asking questions while his generals spread crude maps across a wooden table.
Master Yoda studied the battlefield for several moments before speaking.
"Victory through battle alone, seek not. Time... your greatest ally it shall be."
The room fell silent as everyone turned toward the Grand Master.
"The Federation's army larger is. Defeat them directly, you cannot. Hold them... delay them... allow Queen Amidala time to complete her mission."
Boss Nass slowly nodded.
"Mesa understands."
He turned toward one of his commanders.
"Gather da shield generators. Spread da fambaa out. Keep da army moving. No let da droids surround us."
The Gungan general struck his chest in salute.
"Yes, Boss Nass!"
Orders immediately spread throughout the camp.
Warriors hurried between formations carrying long electropole weapons. Massive fambaa beasts were fitted with shield generators while kaadu riders mounted their swift creatures. The air was filled with shouted commands, the clanking of armor, and the steady beat of ceremonial war drums echoing across the swamp.
On the Naboo side, soldiers checked their blasters one final time while the Queen's handmaidens helped prepare disguises and equipment for the infiltration into Theed.
Everyone had a role to play.
Everyone understood what tomorrow would bring.
The liberation of Naboo had begun.
As preparations continued, Khan quietly stepped away from the growing bustle of the camp.
He stood near the edge of the swamp where the calm waters reflected Naboo's evening sky. The sounds of soldiers preparing for battle echoed faintly behind him, but for a brief moment, he allowed himself silence.
He closed his eyes.
Tomorrow would decide the fate of Naboo.
The Sith would almost certainly appear again.
Master Qui-Gon's death weighed heavily on his heart.
He silently tightened his fist.
I won't fail again.
Soft footsteps approached behind him.
"Khan."
He turned to find Queen Amidala standing there, no longer surrounded by advisors or soldiers.
For just a moment...
She was simply Padmé.
She walked beside him until they stood shoulder to shoulder overlooking the quiet water.
Without saying anything, she gently reached over and took his hand.
Khan looked down at their joined hands before looking back at her.
"What's the matter?" he asked softly.
Padmé smiled, though there was exhaustion behind it.
"I just wanted to hold your hand... that's all."
Khan stared at her for a moment before a gentle smile appeared across his face.
Without another word, he stepped forward and wrapped her in a warm embrace.
For the first time since leaving Naboo...
For the first time since Qui-Gon's death...
The weight on his shoulders felt just a little lighter.
Padmé rested her head against his chest, closing her eyes.
"It will all be over soon," Khan said quietly. "We'll free Naboo... and then everyone can finally breathe again."
"I believe you."
She looked up at him.
"I've believed you every step of this journey."
Khan gave a small laugh.
"I wasn't always certain of myself."
"Maybe not," Padmé replied. "But I was."
Those simple words caught him off guard.
She smiled warmly.
"Thank you, Khan."
He looked at her curiously.
"For what?"
"For never giving up."
She paused.
"For protecting me... protecting my people..."
Her voice softened.
"...and for carrying burdens that were never yours alone."
Khan was quiet.
Finally, he answered with complete honesty.
"I never carried them alone."
Padmé smiled.
Before she could reply, hurried footsteps approached.
"Your Majesty!"
One of the Naboo Royal Guards stopped a respectful distance away before saluting.
"Queen Amidala, we are ready."
The moment ended.
Khan slowly released Padmé from the embrace.
Both of them looked toward the gathering soldiers.
The time for quiet had passed.
Padmé's expression shifted once more into that of a queen.
"It is time for us to begin."
Khan nodded, his resolve returning.
"Then let us finish this."
They shared one final smile before walking side by side toward the assembled strike team.
Behind them marched the Grand Army of the Gungans.
Ahead of them waited Theed...
And the decisive battle that would determine the future of Naboo.
