Chapter 370 - Omake: Sensory Overload

The neon grid lines of the battlefield flickered into existence as the lone player, a the crazy man going by the tag Booyah, dropped to his knees behind a shattered piece of ceramite.

He was completely cut off from the main defensive line.

Surrounding him, emerging from the shadows like predatory specters, were four Drukhari Kabalite Warriors.

They didn't fire immediately; they wanted to savor the terror of a lone mortal.

He didn't panic. Instead, he reached into his tactical vest and pulled out a comically heavy, reinforced iron music box decorated with crude, glowing neon stickers.

[Item Name : The Music Box]

[Effect: Feel the music and you can do anything!]

With a manic grin, he slammed it onto the rubble and cranked the handle.

A massive, chest-thumping 80s synth beat erupted from the speakers, instantly shattering the grim atmosphere of the war zone.

"Is that mon-keigh really playing music?!"

♪I saw you dance / From the corner♪

To the exact beat of the opening line, the first Drukhari lunged forward, his mono-molecular blade whistling through the air.

Booyah moved like a professional breakdancer. He dropped into a perfect windmill spin on the ground.

The alien's blade sliced cleanly through empty air, cutting nothing but a stray neon laser beam.

♪I caught your name / In a conversation♪

As the synth bassline kicked in, the Helldiver spun back onto his feet. With a rhythmic flourish, he reached out, grabbed the second Drukhari's collar, and violently yanked him forward.

He slammed a heavy magnetic mine right onto the alien's faceplate.

"Your da bomb,' baby!" Booyah shouted over the music. He kicked the alien backward right into the third Drukhari just as the mine detonated.

BOOM!

A massive cloud of pink glitter and smoke sent them both flying into a nearby wall, where they stuck fast like thrown sticky notes.

♪Playing hard-to-get / But I can understand♪

The fourth Drukhari, the squad leader, hissed in pure rage and opened fire. A volley of toxic splinter crystals rained down.

Booyah began strutting forward, perfectly matching the mid-tempo stride of the song. He pulled out a heavy riot shield painted with a giant smiley face, tilting it left and right to the rhythm.

Ping! Ping! Ping!

The deadly crystals deflected off the shield in perfect syncopation with the drum machine.

♪When I look at you / I see the story in your eyes♪

The leader closed the distance, swinging a barbed whip aimed at the player's throat.

Booyah dropped the shield, ducked under the swing, and grabbed the alien by the wrists. For a brief, absurd second, the two were locked in a tense tango frame.

Booyah looked deeply into the Drukhari's horizontal alien pupils.

"Spoiler alert," the player whispered. "Your story ends with a heavy drop baby."

♪When we're dancing / The night begins to shine♪

With a theatrical spin, Booyah dipped the alien leader, tripped him cleanly over a piece of debris, and hooked a massive high-explosive grenade onto the back of his jetpack.

He gave the alien a firm, rhythmic pat on the chest to send him stumbling backward.

♪Night begins to shine / The night begins to shine / Night begins to shine♪

The Drukhari leader frantically reached for his back, trying to unclip the grenade, but the timer was perfectly synced to the chorus.

Three massive, colorful explosions rocked the ruins back-to-back as the grenade detonated, launching the alien high into the air.

He spun like a firework before crashing headfirst into a pile of discarded scrap metal, his legs twitching in mid-air.

The four aliens lay unmoving, as the song marched on.

Booyah dusted off his combat jacket, picked up his music box by the handle, and took a theatrical bow toward the empty ruins.

As he turned to walk back toward the Imperial lines, the music box was still singing:

♪When we're dancing / The night begins to shine♪
