"Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast."
― William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
No one truly knew who Ikar was. Just that one day Ikar no name came into the mercenary group called Outis. Ikar came there at the ripe age of sixteen. A small skinny thing as all the other agents come in at that age from the street. He was a tan skinny boy with brown hair that reached his shoulders with striking grey eyes as cold as his words and voice. "Ovstas". They called him, dirty boy in Obreian. The language Obreian was used in Grania by foreigners who had come over from the ruined kingdom Tydron. Before Grania was considered one of the most powerful Tydron was the power house of kingdoms.
Tydron was to become an empire. It was an island of a kingdom surrounded by waters unable to be overcome by any other kingdoms. But now Tydron is just a rumor of what they used to be for Tydron had fallen a long time ago and though the citizens remember the language of Tydron they do not remember Tydron in all of its glory. For the ones who remembered the glory of Tydron have long passed away. It was one way to know if someone was from Tyrdon and that was their grey eyes. Most if not all of the citizens of Tydron had grey eyes and this was the reason why the offspring of the first citizens to come from Tydron were still considered foreigners.
They mainly spoke in Oberian and some of them didn't speak Granian at all. They were the disconnected people in Grania. So when little Ikar, who seemed to be a child but was sixteen years old, showed up to the doorsteps of the Outis mercenary, those both Grania and Tydron alike knew he was a Tyrdonian. Ikar rarely spoke and when he did he only spoke Oberian. He only knew Oberian and so as the leader of the Outis, Kanenas he took a liking to Ikar and taught him Grania among many other languages he taught him.
Ikar quickly rose up in the ranks and at the age of twenty became one of the heads of Outis contrary to what others thought he deserved for it took some of them years to became heads. They thought he didn't do enough to prove himself worthy to become a head but nevertheless Ikar proved them wrong in becoming the top head at the ripe age of twenty two just two years after becoming a normal head.
All other heads had to report to Ikar and Ikar only handled the important request of Outis. Which brings us to The transaction of both the queen and Duke Abarca Ikar had to take over. Despite his attitude about it, Ikar handled the request. Ikar sighed in the carriage staring at the girl. "Who knew Duke Abarca could be so cruel?". Yeliana said. "All nobles are cruel, royals even cruelier". Ikar said. When Ikar said this a look Yeliana had never seen came on his face and she decided not to pursue the matter any longer. "We're here". Ikar said. Yeliana and the girl's eyes widened as they pulled up to the palace. But Ikar's eyes stayed unimpressed. They entered the palace and the carriage pulled around at the servants entry into the palace so they would go unnoticed by anyone. At the door of the servants' entry stood a middle aged man with a lamp for the night had fallen. "Lord Outis"? (When gaining the title head you were surnamed Outis) The man said. "I am he". Ikar said, stepping out of the carriage.
He held his hand out for Yeliana and the girl. "If you could follow me please". The man said. They nodded and followed the man through a series of halls. They took a back entry of the palace halls and ended up at a huge white wooden door. The man knocked three times and waited and the door opened to a maid not too older than the man she took at look at all of their faces and let them in. There in the room sat the queen in a chair by the fireplace. She looked up at the three of them and jumped for joy. She stood up and rushed over to them cheerfully.
"Did you have a hard time executing the plan"? Ilaka asked. Ikar shook his head no and pointed at the girl. "Here is the girl no harm has come to her". Ikar said. Ilaka nodded and waved for the maid to get something. She left momentarily and came back with a chest. Yeliana took it without opening which raised Ilaka and the servants' concern. "Not going to check and see if it's all there"? Ilaka asked. "You're the queen". Ikar said. "I'm sure you placed it all there for you read the contract on what happens if we do not receive proper payment". Ikar said.
Ilaka smiled at Ikar's bold words and crossed her arms. "A commoner with bold words not an inch of fear on your face". Ilaka said. "You have to have no fear to work in this business". Ikar said. "If there is nothing else we shall take our leave". Ikar said. "I bid you well young lady". He said to the girl. "Not even asking what will happen with the girl"? Ilaka asked. "You read the contract, yes The Outis Mercenary does not condone any killing of any kind dealing with humans". "You asked us to deliver the girl to you, it is on your part to keep her alive". Ikar said.
They left the room with Ilaka dumbfounded at how strongminded Ikar was standing before royalty. Yet he did not even bat an eye neither did Yeliana. She moved her attention to the girl who stood ever quiet her eyes looked to the floor and she did not make eye contact with even the servants. "What is your name girl". She asked the girl. But she did not answer and instead showed her her cut off tongue. Ilaka sighed and threw her head back. "Can you at least write"? She said. And the girl shook her head no. For she lied thinking Ilaka would do the same to her as Agustin did.
"Alas the girl is of no use to us". Ilaka sighed. "Not quite". The maid said. "What do you mean Julia"? Ilaka said. "Maybe for this moment and opportunity she can write". Julia said. The male servant nodded, sensing what Julia was saying. "Quintin clean up the girl and put her in a uniform". Ilaka said. She looked the girl up and down and sighed again. "Teach her how to write and we shall name you Oblita". Ilaka said. "For if you had a name you cannot tell us now". Ilaka sighed. "I shall surely hear from the king about this matter". "For now I shall appease him and come up with a plan that will overthrow Duke Abarca's".
Quintin and Julia nodded and led the girl to another room. Once they washed the girl her looks weren't that bad. One could see why Alexia swapped Oblita's sister for Canary for the girl did share some of the same features together. That deep black hair and chocolate skin. When babies are first born they don't look like anything so the child Alexia had swapped with Canary could pass as Letitia and Thaddeus's so called dead child for their hair color was the same and the baby's eyes wouldn't have opened yet.
Julia gave Oblita a set of rules to follow. And in the days to come Oblita wouldn't be seen outside of the quarters of Ilaka's palace. She was trapped there just as she was trapped in that village. But the only difference between the village and the queen's palace is that Oblita could easily escape. In the village an eye was always on that shack; the one time there wasn't an eye on the shack was because of Ikar making it so. Day after day Ilaka and Julia would lecture Oblita and she would play dumb acting as if she wasn't able to learn hoping Ilaka would let her go but Ilaka showed no signs of letting Oblita go.
And the plan that Ilaka had come up with came to no fruit. So Oblita began to plan her own plan. A plan to escape and on a peculiar day when it seemed no one was around Oblita took action. She remembered the way Quintin had come when he brought her into the palace…or so she thought. She fumbled her way in the dark of the tunnels behind the walls of the palace. She wanted to cry for the dark tunnels seemed to go on and on.
Then she saw a light and thought it might be the way output when she drew closer to the light she realized it was not a way out but a lamp and behind the lamp was Quintin. "Hey"! Quintin yelled. "What are you doing outside your room"?! He began to chase Oblita and she because of her underweight and he was rather overweight was faster than Quintin.
They both tumbled and ran through the tunnels and when Oblita had found a door she went through it. She was blinded momentarily from the light hitting her eyes. She raised a hand up and all around her she saw people. little white papers were falling down and people were looking at the papers in amazement. Music was playing and people were talking. They seemed to be in bliss down there. She looked over the railing for she was frightened and amazed at the same time. Here she was living in hell everyday and the world was still going on. "Stop"! Quintin yelled behind her. Oblita turned around and the sight of Quintin scared her. Scared her so bad that she tumbled backwards off of the railing that was behind her and fell down to the ball floor.
She heard gasp in that brief time and she began to cough up blood. She looked around at everyone who stared at her frightened. And in her final moments her eyes landed upon Canary, Shayan, and Numa and she died laying there.
