Chapter 230 - Chapter 230: Chief Steward Rehn’s “Victory Declaration”

Gran Tesoro, Central Control Room

"Heh… hehe… hehehehe…"

A creepy laugh filled with the scent of Berries echoed through the room.

Nami was sprawled across the massive golden control console.

Her bright orange eyes had already turned into two rapidly spinning "¥" symbols, and drool was almost dripping onto the control panel.

Her hands moved so fast they left afterimages, operating the massive golden ship at an unbelievable speed.

"Found it! Found it!!"

Nami screamed excitedly.

"It's the hidden accounts! That bastard Tesoro's secret treasury! My god! This number… this number!!"

Her entire body trembled with excitement. She was so happy she looked like she might faint.

Behind her, Rehn sat leisurely on the pure gold throne that once belonged to Tesoro.

He had his legs crossed, holding a glass of top-grade red wine that had just been confiscated from Tesoro's private wine cellar, gently swirling it.

"Miss Nami," Rehn said lazily in the tone of a wealthy landlord, "how's the accounting going? Lord Renzo's assets must not have the slightest mistake."

"Shut up, fatty! Stop distracting me!"

Nami shouted without turning around.

"This ship's security and financial systems are even more complicated than the G-5 treasury! I… I need time!"

"Efficiency, Miss Nami. Efficiency."

Ren took a sip of wine.

"Hmm… not bad. I should bring two crates of this back for Lord Renzo."

Just then-Crackle.

A faint electric arc sounded.

Rehn's eyebrows twitched slightly.

"Miss Nami."

"What now?!"

"Pause your money-counting for a moment."

Rehn slowly rolled himself off the throne. A smile appeared on his chubby face.

"Seems… we have guests."

"Guests?"

"Mm."

Rehn slowly walked toward the massive hole he had blasted through earlier that led to the deck.

"A bunch of… uninvited little bugs."

"They probably smelled the blood here and came to… pick up leftovers."

"How noisy."

...

Gran Tesoro, Central Deck

The place was no longer the luxurious and peaceful paradise it once was.

The shattered remains of Tesoro's Golden Colossus were scattered everywhere.

And standing atop this chaotic field of golden ruins were two figures.

The one in front was a tall man wearing a signature white spotted hat and a black coat.

His handsome face carried a cold smile, and in his hand he held a sharp sword like a surgeon's scalpel.

The "Surgeon of Death", Trafalgar Law.

Behind him stood a huge fluffy white figure carrying a large sword on his back, curiously looking around.

"Wow… Law, it looks like something huge happened here!"

"Did someone… take down that Tesoro guy?"

A member of the Heart Pirates, the white bear Bepo.

"Shut up, Bepo."

Law's eyes were extremely serious.

He looked down at the half-cooled pools of melted gold on the ground, then at the charred marks left by lightning strikes.

"This power… lightning?"

"That's right."

A powerful voice came from the top of the tower.

Law and Bepo immediately looked up.

At the edge of the broken tower roof stood the round, young, fat man, Rehn.

With his hands behind his back, he looked down on them from above.

The posture made it seem as if he was the true master here.

"Trafalgar Law."

Rehn squinted slightly as the G-5 intelligence database in his mind activated instantly.

"One of the Worst Generation… captain of the Heart Pirates… bounty: 240 million Berries."

"What exactly are you doing here?" Law's brow furrowed deeper.

He recognized Rehn.

Or rather, he recognized that face, the "lightning fat man" who had kicked Eustass Kid flying at Sabaody.

A subordinate of Admiral Haiiroyo.

"So it's you."

Law's tone turned cold.

"Tesoro… you're the one who defeated him?"

"Correct."

Rehn nodded as if it were obvious.

"But there's no reward."

"You!"

Bepo started to speak, but Law raised his hand to stop him.

Inside Law's mind, waves of shock surged.

He knew Tesoro's strength.

Especially after awakening his Devil Fruit, on this ship, Tesoro was almost invincible.

Yet the fat man in front of him… had defeated him?

Just what kind of monsters served under Haiiroyo Renzo?

"What exactly are you here for?"

Law tightened his grip on his sword Kikoku. He didn't believe the man had come to make friends.

"This ship… belongs to G-5 now?"

"No, no, no."

Rehn wagged his thick finger, his face showing a solemn expression.

"You're wrong again, Surgeon of Death."

He slowly spread his arms as if proclaiming a divine decree.

"This place is not G-5 territory."

"This place…"

"Is Admiral Haiiroyo, Lord Renzo's private property!"

Law's pupils shrank violently.

"Private property?! Your Marines are openly committing robbery?!"

"Robbery? What an ugly word."

Rehn picked his ear.

"We call it… asset optimization and allocation."

"That useless Tesoro guarded a mountain of gold but only knew how to run cheap casinos and auctions. It's a disgrace to efficiency!"

"But Lord Renzo is different."

Rehn's face once again showed that fanatical, hymn-like expression.

"This ship! This Golden City! Will become Lord Renzo's perfect mobile palace!"

"We'll lay down the softest carpets! Replace everything with the most comfortable beds! Invite the finest mermaid singers from Fish-Man Island!"

"This place will become the holy land of Lord Renzo's divine vacations!"

"…."

"…."

Both of them were stunned speechless by Rehn's treasonous and utterly insane speech.

'This… Is this something a Marine should be saying?!'

This sounded even more pirate than pirates.

"Trafalgar Law."

Rehn seemed to be enjoying himself now. He looked at Law again with a tone of appreciation.

"You seem to understand efficiency too."

"The Op-Op Fruit… very nice ability."

"So?"

Rehn smiled kindly.

"Interested in… serving under Lord Renzo?"

"I guarantee the benefits at G-5 are the best in the world! Full benefits! Paid leave! And year-end gold bonuses personally awarded by Lord Renzo!"

"And…" Rehn lowered his voice temptingly. "Aren't you… always looking for a chance to bring down Doflamingo?"

"We're professionals at that."

Law's heart suddenly jumped.

For the first time ever, shock appeared on his usually expressionless face.

"You… how do you know that?!"

This was the secret he had hidden the deepest.

"Heh." Rehn smiled mysteriously.

"In this world, there is nothing… the G-5 Intelligence Department doesn't know."

Rehn slowly extended his chubby hand.

"Think about it, Law."

"Will you keep being a supernova with an uncertain future…"

"Or…"

"Join us. Join the family of efficiency and peace. Become a subordinate of the god… and together create a new era that belongs only to Lord Renzo?"

Law stared at Rehn.

He looked at that plump, simple-looking face that carried terrifying pressure.

Then he remembered that lazy man who had suppressed the entire Marineford War.

The Haiiroyo.

And for the first time, the unwavering heart inside Law, burning with revenge…

Actually felt… A slight… Hesitation.
