Chapter 100 - Chapter 99: Yamamoto: How did I lose a Vice Captain?

"What the hell? I just fell asleep." Yamabuki groggily climbed out of bed, opened the door with a resentful expression, and let Chōjirō Sasakibe in.

As soon as Chōjirō Sasakibe entered, he saw that the handcuffs on Unohana's hands were gone, and he quickly gripped his Zanpakutō, looking at Unohana with horror.

"What are you afraid of? I'm here, she can't cause any trouble." Yamabuki said very impatiently, "I'm so sleepy. I'll never stay up late again. If I do, I'm a puppy."

Yamabuki reluctantly crawled out of bed, took out the handcuffs, and cuffed Unohana's hands. There was no other way; she was still a prisoner of the Gotei 13, and she had to be treated this way to avoid gossip. As the saying goes, rumors can be terrifying, and one must be on guard.

The three of them strolled to the Gotei 13. After greeting the passing squad members, they directly took Unohana to the First Division Barracks.

When Yamabuki arrived, he found that all the Captains, except himself, were already there, looking at Unohana with serious expressions.

No matter what, Unohana was currently a great sinner who had damaged the Seireitei and had to face judgment.

The Captain Commander also had a solemn expression.

Saitō still had a trace of fear on her face when she saw Unohana. There weren't many people who could subdue her; there were only two in the entire Gotei 13.

"State your name," Yamamoto said in a deep voice.

"Yachiru Unohana," Unohana said very calmly, completely unconcerned that she was about to be judged.

"Yachiru Unohana, are you willing to join the Gotei 13?" Yamamoto asked.

"If you join the Gotei 13, we will handle you according to the Gotei 13's rules. If you do not join, we can only send you to Central 46 and handle you according to Central 46's laws. What is your wish?" Yamamoto asked in a deep voice.

The Gotei 13 was currently most in need of strong individuals. Yamamoto and the other Captains already knew that the Quincy would launch a large-scale attack in the near future. During this time, the Gotei 13 would spare no effort to improve its strength. Unohana, by herself, had defeated two Captain-level experts, first defeating Saitō Furōfushi and Kinroku Izuhara, and finally narrowly losing to Yamabuki. The Old Man naturally did not want to let go of such a master. It would be excellent if she could join the Gotei 13.

Yamabuki had already discussed this matter with Unohana. Unohana had no objections and publicly announced her decision to join the Gotei 13, requesting to work in the same division as Yamabuki.

Yamamoto looked troubled. As the Chief of Staff and Vice Captain of the First Division, Yamabuki was his right-hand man, and Unohana's strength was fully capable of standing on her own. Placing such a general under his command would be a bit of a waste of her talent.

"Yamabuki, what do you mean?" Yamamoto looked at Yamabuki. When in doubt, consult the Chief of Staff; this had become the Captain Commander's instinct.

"I believe Unohana should be appointed as a Captain and should not work under the First Division," Yamabuki said calmly. "To fulfill my promise, Captain Commander, please transfer me to Captain Unohana's command."

Yamamoto's expression was incredibly strange. How did I inexplicably lose a Vice Captain? This isn't right, the math doesn't add up.

Could it be that this kid prioritizes beauty over friendship? Hmph, I knew it. There had to be something off about how diligently you've been working. So that's it.

"Captain Commander, I can recommend a Vice Captain to you; I guarantee you'll be satisfied," Yamabuki said with a chuckle. "I recommend Chōjirō Sasakibe to serve as the Vice Captain of the First Division."

Yamamoto kept staring at Yamabuki, making him feel embarrassed.

Did this brat plan all of this out beforehand? However, if he didn't agree to this condition, Unohana would certainly not join the Gotei 13, and this wasn't an excessive request either.

"Alright! Yachiru Unohana will temporarily serve as the provisional Captain of the Eleventh Division, and Yamabuki will serve as the Vice Captain of the Eleventh Division," Yamamoto said reluctantly.

Yamamoto had agreed, but Unohana herself was a bit confused. She frowned and asked, "Why can I, a defeated opponent, serve as a Captain, while Yamabuki, a stronger individual than me, can only serve as a Vice Captain? Are you using this method to humiliate me?"

"No, I just want to slack off, that's all," Yamabuki said calmly.

I really just want to retire, why is it so difficult? The Gotei 13 still doesn't have a complete retirement mechanism. I've really failed as a Chief of Staff.

Slacking off? Unohana truly couldn't understand the meaning of this phrase. Did he want to touch her Minazuki? What a strange habit!

"Alright, now that the matter is settled, everyone is family. If you have any difficulties in the future, feel free to tell me, and this Old Man will try his best to help you. Yamabuki, go call that boy Chōjirō Sasakibe for me. You can also hand over your work to him." Yamamoto said with reluctance.

What a great Vice Captain!

He didn't have to worry about anything; every day, all he had to do was fight or be on his way to fight. He didn't have to manage anything else at all. Yamabuki could manage the entire squad, and even the entire Gotei 13, in an orderly fashion.

Sigh! What opportunity should I look for to get him back in the future?

However, thanks to him still holding the Chief of Staff position, I can still push things I don't want to consider onto him. That's decided!

Yamamoto looked at Yamabuki with a very sinister smile. Yamabuki felt a chill down his spine. What was wrong with the Old Man? Why did he suddenly show such a smile?

I've sold myself for the squad, you must believe me! I used my body to bring in such a talent; you must not overthink it!

Yamabuki scurried to the First Division and dragged Chōjirō Sasakibe over.

"Brother Yamabuki, are you looking for me in such a hurry?" Chōjirō Sasakibe asked with curiosity.

"Of course, it's a good thing I'm looking for you! Do you want a promotion?"

"Of course!"

"Then how about I give you the position of Vice Captain of the First Division?" Yamabuki looked at the boy in his hands with a smile. He seemed to have grown a little taller these past few days.

Chōjirō Sasakibe looked dispirited: "Stop messing with me. Even if you wanted to resign from the First Division, the Captain Commander wouldn't allow it, and how could the Vice Captain position fall to me?"

"I'm not joking with you. I'm here to hand over my work. The Captain Commander has already ordered it; I've been assigned to the Eleventh Division as Vice Captain. The First Division will be in your hands from now on," Yamabuki said.
