Chapter 698 - Chapter 697: Humanity Needs Magic

Moira and Vice President Swanwick were visiting for the first time. The group sat in Thea's manifested aircraft, looking down from the sky. This brand-new continent was an excellent supplement for Earth's exploding population—except it was enormous.

"Thea, this place is too vast. Developing it with just America's resources would be painfully slow. We need several of the world's major powers working together," Moira said, identifying the issue precisely. Whether for pre-war development or post-war division of benefits, hogging everything wasn't appropriate.

Thea had no objections. The continent was now anchored, its basic atmospheric environment designed entirely according to Earth's specifications. After the war, it could serve as an excellent destination to relieve population pressure—though the Mars terraforming project would require even more work.

After touring the high-level officials around, Thea established a permanent teleportation array between the original Earth and the "New Continent." Personnel and supplies could flow through here from now on.

Initially, they'd use the holographic simulation game excuse to trick soldiers and scientists into doing infrastructure work. When to tell the truth later—or whether to tell it at all—was a matter for politicians. She couldn't manage that far ahead for now.

Moira would negotiate with other governments. Whether they believed in the enemy invasion or not, having an extra continent to control meant countless resources to exploit. With the mindset of those politicians, they'd make the right choice.

After finishing with the government, Thea still had to coordinate with the superheroes.

In the Hall of Justice conference room, several superheroes listened to her describe the coming threat.

This time, to gather broad input, she'd not only brought Superman—who was in seclusion (sleeping) in the sun—but also pulled in the Flash and Aquaman.

Looking at the seven people in the room including herself, Thea felt speechless. She remembered that in the original timeline, this should have been Batman's job. When did it become hers?

Especially seeing Batman completely oblivious, sitting there expressionless waiting to hear the story—she was utterly baffled.

Clearing her throat lightly, "Everyone, time is tight. I've gathered you all here for this matter..."

She went on to describe her experiences on Earth-Two. The Flash, having been there personally, also shared his perspective.

"Batman died? An old man put on the Batsuit..." Even the usually impassive Batman showed some emotion. Superman had mentioned the other timeline to him, but he hadn't expected that world's Bruce to have sacrificed himself while his own father wore his suit. For an instant, he was distracted, though he quickly suppressed it.

Thea glanced at the Flash, who gestured for her to continue. "We won't discuss this old man's true identity, but he deserves respect. Seventy years old, taking drugs that ravaged his body, all to fulfill a promise. I think... you have a right to know about this."

Seeing the atmosphere growing heavy, Diana tossed out a massive sword. "It's not just you who died in that world—I died too, killed by this sword. Superman also died..."

Her topic change was fairly successful. Superman had known this story already, but the Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, and Batman didn't. They finally realized how serious the situation was. This wasn't some minor skirmish—it was a genuine war.

"Atlantis in that world was destroyed too?" Aquaman, attending his first meeting, wasn't as sunny and talkative as the Flash. He had a subtle distance from the others. If Thea hadn't personally invited him, he wouldn't have wanted to come.

"That's right. In that world, Steppenwolf's first wave hit Metropolis, then he swept through Themyscira and Atlantis. From what I saw, there were very few survivors."

The heroes fell silent, the atmosphere growing tense again. From Thea's words, it wasn't hard to judge that the superheroes in that world had been nearly annihilated.

Though she mentioned some new-generation heroes rising up, the old guard being completely crushed was an undeniable fact.

"So you established the New Continent plan? You want to win this battle on that continent?" Batman was the first to recover, continuing with his deadpan expression.

"Yes. The scale of this battle will be extraordinarily vast. It won't just be us few fighting. The New Gods' army, the human military, Atlantis's forces—I'm even planning to seek reinforcements from the Guardians of the Universe."

Everyone in the room except Diana, who knew her plan, wore blank expressions.

"Heh, quite an ambitious plan." Batman nodded with a half-smile, meaning he couldn't help and she should handle it herself.

Thea had no choice. Pulling in more allies would definitely increase their chances. Putting all her hopes on Highfather defeating Darkseid really wasn't the best strategy.

Wide connections, many resources—that had become her trademark. Rallying as many people as possible to help was her main strategy.

The meeting ended quickly. It was more of a briefing session. Thea had also established a teleportation gate at the Hall of Justice, and several superheroes planned to go take a look.

Barren. Lifeless. That was everyone's first impression of the continent.

"There's too little water here," Aquaman said, looking around somewhat gloomily.

In fact, it wasn't just too little—there was almost none. Various minerals were easy to create, but water, the source of life, couldn't be produced in large quantities by her legendary Wish spell.

The small amount of water that existed had been carried over by the Green.

"I've left open spaces on both the east and west sides of the continent. Mera's water manipulation abilities should be able to control water from Earth's side, right? I remember Atlantis also has some technology for creating fresh water. Either way, the water problem is yours to handle." Thea was swamped with work and decided to leave water creation to the professionals.

The Flash also made a good suggestion. He'd captured a metahuman called Weather Wizard in Central City who could be brought here to make it rain.

"Good idea. If we can increase rainfall and transform the environment, the government will issue that metahuman a pardon. This is your responsibility." Thea didn't take the law seriously at all, leaving the Flash somewhat speechless, though he had no grounds to criticize.

Everyone split up to handle their tasks. Diana was also visiting the continent for the first time. She carefully sensed it. "The magical energy on this continent seems..."

Thea smiled. "This is a continent constructed entirely from magical power. There's bound to be some residual magical energy. This is an opportunity for humanity."

"You want to bring magic to Earth's people?" Diana knew the might of her Magic Legion. Tens of thousands of fireballs raining down from the sky—few could withstand that.

"It's impossible. Time is too short, and many people have no aptitude at all. I can't awaken bloodlines one by one."

"However..." Thea looked like a cunning little fox. "If a child is born on this continent, they'll have a high probability of possessing magical talent."

"If the powerful don't want their descendants falling behind, they'll have to relocate to this continent. And naturally, they'll bring their advanced equipment and personnel with them."
