Maya woke up to throbbing pain on her head. Direct sunlight was blinding her as she attempted to raise her hand to touch the spot for a damage check, but was stopped by ropes around her wrists and arms. She had been sat infront of a pole and tied to it. Hexa was on the other side of it, her restraint made with double the amount of ropes used for Maya.
Maya looked around. It was obvious she was on a boat, which turned out the size of a ship, and was tied to the mast. It was already moving. The familiar smell of the sea and the gentle way the waves shook the boat confirmed it. She couldn't see over the wooden edges of the boat, the only thing stopping everyone from falling off when a slightly bigger wave hit.
She observed how much fewer people roamed the ship compared to the mass of hunters on the island. Just five were on this ship, or they were the only ones she saw. They were rotating and guarding them to prevent escape. The ropes on her were weak-looking enough to be broken easily. The only thing she needed to find was a good timing to escape.. And wait for Hexa to wake up.
She waited for hours. The ship was still on its way. She didn't know how long she would have to wait, but she knew needed to be quick. Glancing at Hexa, she noticed she was awake, but staring at a blank space. Hexa suddenly flinched at seemingly nothing, the restraints tightening on her as she does. She would have usually said something. She suddenly whispered something so quietly even Maya couldn't hear it.
The hunter whose turn it was to patrol went up to Hexa with a mocking smirk. "Going crazy already? No wonder the queen wanted to take your friend," he said. His tone was dry, yet still dripping with venom. He gave Hexa's shoulder a rough shove and chuckled darkly.
This caused Hexa to lose herself. The voice of her mother screamed for help. She started seeing her mother being shoved instead of herself. In the blink of an eye, her ropes were snapped and she was free. This time, she saw clearly. She consciously grabbed someone's hammer from a crafting area, from which everyone was on break, and swung at the man mocking her.
The man barely dodged and ran away. People were running around in panic. They were prepared for whatever Maya would do, not for whatever this was. Nobody pulled out a gun, too shocked to act.
This would be a good time for Maya to escape, but that would cause Hexa to lash out on more people and more damage to them. If she stopped Hexa, she would limit the amount of dead bodies, but risk the chance of escaping. She wanted to follow the first one, of course. But getting Hexa out with her would be tricky.
She quietly broke the ropes. And glanced at Hexa, who was running around the boat with a hammer and hitting everyone she saw, every now and then. She didn't stand up yet, but acted as if she was still bound to the ropes. She needed a timing when nobody was near the escape and Hexa was near enough to signal that they were leaving the ship.
But a sudden smell of smoke hit Maya's nose. Fire. There was fire somewhere in the ship. She saw the hunters running out of the cockpit, screaming for nobody to go in. Hexa didn't seem to be their biggest problem anymore. She was standing still next to Maya with the hammer in her hand. Now every one of them was in here and Maya had to put up her best act of being restrained.
The hunters didn't know how to react to the fire, so the jumped oout of the ship and swam back to Etherium, which was close to where they had gotten.
Maya finally got up and looked at Hexa, nodding in silent approval. They walked to the edge of the ship, where the lifeboats had gone unnoticed by the hunters, and got into one. Etherium was the nearest island, but was the opposite of safe for them. They needed to find a new place to stay.
