The X-Men and their companions stumbled out of the power plant, gasping in the cool mountain air. Kitty Pryde brushed soot from her uniform. She glanced skyward, seeing Zapdos, a jagged yellow streak, disappear into the distant clouds.
Her breath hitched. She had never been so glad to see something leave. That raw power, the lightning that had nearly turned them all into charcoal, was terrifying. She was just glad they were out.
Piotr, his metal form still warm from absorbing Zapdos's blasts, shimmered. He reverted to human form with a soft shink. A deep breath escaped him, the air around him still smelling faintly of ozone. He checked his teammates, a quiet assessment of their well-being. The immediate danger was gone, and that was what mattered. He felt the residual strain in his muscles, but his focus remained on his friends.
Jubilee's hair still smoked slightly, but pink and gold sparks danced around her hands as she turned to Bobby.
"Woah! Did you see that? It was like, a total light show, but way too up close and personal!"
Bobby Drake shivered, pulling his jacket tighter. He glanced up at the sky, a wry smirk on his face.
"Yeah, a light show where we almost became charcoal briquettes, Sparky."
"Come on, Bobby, it was… electrifying!" Jubilee insisted, a forced laugh escaping her. She wanted to believe they'd handled it with style, even if it had been a little too much.
"Electrifying is one word for it," Bobby replied, rubbing his arms. "I prefer 'freezing my shorts off and nearly getting zapped into next Tuesday.'" He just wanted to avoid anything similar for the rest of the day.
Rogue stepped forward, her gaze sweeping over the shaken group. She touched Emolga's head, her touch gentle through her gloves. The little Pokémon still trembled slightly, its fur ruffled. She could feel the lingering energy in the air, a raw, untamed power. This wasn't just some wild animal. This was something else.
"That creature was… somethin' else," Rogue drawled, her Southern accent a little more pronounced. "It wasn't just powerful, it was almost… knowing."
Kurt, his yellow eyes wide with a mix of awe and lingering concern, nodded slowly. He understood her words.
"Ja, a spirit of the storm, perhaps," Kurt said, his voice soft. "There was a feeling… ancient. Like the very mountains themselves could call down thunder." He was open to a deeper, less scientific interpretation of the creature, a sense of mysticism that resonated with him.
Kitty, seeing the weariness in everyone's eyes, clapped her hands. Her voice, though a little breathless, held a new resolve.
"Okay, enough philosophizing about lightning birds," Kitty said, a spark of her usual energy returning. "We're singed, we're bruised, and Emolga needs a medic. We need to report this. Back to the entrance, everyone."
Kamala glanced at Doreen, her earlier bravado replaced by a slight tremor in her voice. The adrenaline was starting to wear off, leaving her feeling a little wobbly. This was definitely not like the comics.
"Yeah, Kitty's right. Let's… let's go before anything else decides it wants to play with us," Kamala agreed. She was ready to leave this potentially dangerous area.
Doreen, still hugging a dazed Emolga, quickly agreed. Emolga chirped faintly, a small shudder running through its body. Doreen worried about her little partner.
"Totally. Let's get our tails out of here," Doreen said, her voice a little subdued. The current situation was too much for her and her Pokémon. She was ready to go back, no arguments.
Kitty sighed, a small puff of white mist in the cool air. It was clear no one was up for another round with the electric bird. They were all tired, shaken, and definitely not equipped to deal with a creature of that magnitude.
"Alright, everyone. Back to base it is, then," Kitty said, her voice tinged with slight resignation. "Hopefully, Professor X will have some answers about our… friend."
The X-Men and their companions walked back through Aurawood Preserve. Each step felt heavy. The initial excitement had gone, replaced by the memory of Zapdos's power.

They continued their journey. The path back to the preserve's entrance felt longer than the way in. The forest, once exciting and full of new wonders, now held a hint of lingering static and unease. Each step felt heavier than the last. Their initial excitement had worn off, replaced by the memory of Zapdos's raw power.
As they approached the main archway, Kitty spotted two figures. Relief washed over her, seeing familiar faces, but it was mixed with apprehension. Valeria and Batgirl stood there, looking remarkably fresh and untroubled. Kitty knew this meant explaining their current state, and it wouldn't be easy to gloss over their singed clothes and tired expressions.
Valeria's sharp, analytical eyes immediately took in the group's disheveled state. She processed the singed clothes and weary expressions as evidence of a recent struggle. Batgirl's gaze narrowed, noting the residual static on Jubilee's hair and the slump in Piotr's posture. Something definitely happened.
"Well, you all look like you've been through a car wash… on fire," Valeria observed, her tone dry and direct. "What precisely transpired?"
"You didn't happen to, say, run into a giant yellow bird made of lightning, did you?" Batgirl asked, her voice flat. She was already piecing together the possibilities.
Kitty stepped forward, a little breathless from the trek. She wanted to convey the sheer power of the creature and the danger it posed. She pulled out her Rotom Phone, tapping the screen.
"Actually, we did," Kitty said. "It was… something else. It was like a living storm. I got a quick scan, though." She turned the phone, displaying the Pokédex entry for Zapdos.
Doreen, eager to share, chimed in, her voice a rapid chatter. She believed the data would help explain the situation. She wanted to share what she had learned.
"Yeah! It's Zapdos, " Doreen said. " It was a huge yellow bird Pokémon. My Pokédex says it can manipulate weather and generate EMPs! Also, it was really grumpy when we tried to say hello."
Valeria and Batgirl leaned closer, examining the Zapdos data. Valeria's analytical mind immediately grasped the implications of a "legendary bird Pokémon" with immense electrical power. This creature represented a significant danger to Aurawood if not properly understood and managed.
"A Pokémon with weather manipulation capabilities and EMP discharge…" Valeria murmured, her voice losing its dry edge. "This is a level of ecological disruption we did not anticipate."
Batgirl's eyes narrowed, processing the threat assessment. She could already picture the headlines. This was serious.
"This creature is an uncontrolled energy source. We need to understand its capabilities, and fast," Batgirl stated, her voice tight with concern. She thought of the immediate security implications.
Batgirl and Valeria exchanged a look. They needed to take this information seriously. They wanted a copy of the data for further investigation. Batgirl turned to Doreen, her voice firm but appreciative.
"Doreen, I need that data. Can you transfer the Pokédex information?" Batgirl asked. "Every detail. Attack patterns, energy signatures, everything you managed to record."
"And your personal observations would be invaluable," Valeria added, pulling out a small data stick from her utility belt. "Emotional responses, behavioral patterns… anything that could give us insight."
Doreen happily handed over her Pokédex for data transfer. She believed she had been helpful. She was pleased to contribute to the understanding of this new world.
"Sure thing!" Doreen said, connecting her Rotom Phone. "It's all there. My observations are pretty scientific, you know. Like, 'Zapdos: very zappy, not very friendly.'"
Valeria and Batgirl, with the Zapdos data secured, offered a brief, polite farewell. They had pressing matters to attend to. They moved with purpose, already formulating their next steps.
"Thank you for the information, Doreen. And for the… firsthand account," Valeria said, her expression serious. "We will be analyzing this immediately."
"Stay safe, X-Men," Batgirl added, already turning. "Report this to Professor Xavier. We'll be in touch."
Valeria intended to seek out Orion Oak. He knew the most about Pokémon, and his input would be crucial for understanding this new threat. Batgirl, on the other hand, was going to take this data straight to Batman. This was exactly the kind of unexpected, high-level threat he would want to know about immediately. The two young heroes moved quickly, their minds already racing with plans.
