Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Seraphic

『Felix Karl Grimm』

This is life.

It truly is.

I patted my full belly while enjoying the sunshine at a local park.

Admittedly, I may have gone a little overboard with 3 bowls of ramen, 2 burgers, 4 plates of fries and 2 large pizzas' as my first meal in this world. But I think I deserved it.

But beside the pigging out, I actually had to start planning for stuff. Foremost was what I was aiming to do in this world beyond my mission and eating good.

While I do not know if I do, I'd like to know if I can learn or use cursed energy, if I could, that would be awesome. Cursed Energy was overwhelmingly versatile, binding vows, barriers, black flashes, domains, you name it, it has it. And I'd very much like to condition my body properly and get Martial Arts down for real. I couldn't be wasting my Kure Physique.

Getting my raw power up was a must in this world. I didn't have guns or my futuristic Carbon Ballistic Weave armor. I had to get stronger myself. Staying as weak as I currently was unacceptable. My opponents were no longer people working a 6–11 with cybernetic augments and guns but supernatural spirits who could kick me through a skyscraper and blast me with a beam that vaporizes me.

I already had the tools to get stronger in this world, I just had to use them properly.

So, the question remains, what do I plan to do? Beyond enjoying my stay here to its utmost of course.

This world had the benefit of there being plenty of Ticket opportunities, mainly cursed spirits and Curse Users which were no doubt going to give better tickets than untrained number of gangoons would. Disrespect meant, most low rung gang members were former homeless people who drank the ideology juice and had no idea how to use their weapons effectively beyond aim and pull trigger.

If I wanted to get stronger, getting accepted to the Tokyo Jujutsu School was probably my best bet. Even if there was the chance I didn't have cursed energy, there was still the fact that they were very used to helping people with unique abilities. And they would no doubt help me train much better than I could myself.

Sure, Gojo always complained about the Higher Ups of the Jujutsu world being rotten and corrupt geezers, and don't get me wrong, they sucked ass hard. But... y'know, they were like bog-standard Corpos, just slightly more bigoted than average and overall less evil and actively malicious.

Considering I had [Lese Majeste] chances are, I wouldn't get hassled by them right off the bat, though it was not a guarantee since traits were omnipotent. So there was still a minor risk, but it was one I was willing to take.

But, before I get involved in that mess, I want to figure out where I stand in this world. See how I fare against the Cursed Spirits of this place and get a bit more time to plan instead of just going to their doors and banging on them asking for help.

Because I really didn't want to just immediately jump ship from one job to the other when I just got off from Night City. But I did want tickets, so I had an idea to test myself. And I also had an idea where to find some Cursed Spirits to try my luck against.

I pulled out my cellphone, which felt rather archaic after using Agents for months but in a good nostalgic way. I spent an hour researching potential curse hotspots near me. Stuff like abandoned buildings people posted about in social media claiming they are haunted, or places like murder scenes and local urban legends.

And after a while, I found a decent candidate to visit. An abandoned village a few hours away from Tokyo City, a semi famous urban exploration place with a reputation for missing people. But considering there was the chance that whatever is there may be a big fish. I settled in a haunted building in Tokyo City Outskirts, where people reported hearing creepy noises at night.

Now, I'd be really pissed if those noises turned out to be like homeless people or criminals. But I didn't have anything to lose at the moment.

While I really want to try and use Seraph Tracers to fly over there, I didn't want the smoke with the Jujutsu higher ups for compromising the secret of Jujutsu. So instead I settled on going by train, and then taxi instead.

I miss my Herrera Outlaw.

『Felix Karl Grimm』

After several hours of travel, and rather enjoying the journey of seeing the sights of Tokyo, I arrived at my destination. An abandoned middle school in the outskirts of Tokyo, apparently, it was abandoned when they discovered a gas leak, and it poisoned a bunch of kids. And this building certainly had some sort of ominous aura that spoke to my cat like instincts. It seemed like I was not wrong in my assumption that this place housed a cursed spirit. Or maybe even several.

Even though this was a bit dangerous, as long as the Cursed Spirit was not something like a Special Grade, I had good confidence in being able to escape. If I failed to escape from a Grade 1 Cursed Spirit with my goddamn Epic Rarity movement ability, I probably deserved to die.

After confirming that no one was around to see me, I walked into the abandoned school with my hands in my pockets. The current abilities I had slotted in were [Precognition] and [Seraph Tracers]. Superhuman may have seemed like the better thing to have slotted in, but my Superhuman stats weren't really up to snuff when compared to the stats of most Cursed Spirits while Seraph Tracers gave me Angel wings that were tougher than steel that I could deploy at any time.

"Mr. Cursed Spirits~ come out and play~ please~ exploring an abandoned building isn't as fun as some people try and make it out to be~."

I hummed a tune while walking down the halls. Hoping to attract some trouble, and when I went down to the below ground level floor of the building, I found the attention I was looking for.

"Cough! Cough! I'll choke you...! Smother you...!"

In the basement was a large cursed spirit double the height of the average with a distended chest that looked almost like a balloon and purple sickly looking skin. It looked like something in between an insect, a skinless dog and an oversized rodent. The thing that caught my attention first was the nasty looking clouds of gas that wafted out of every orifice this thing had, even the eyes, making it look somewhat like an inflated corpse.

Its glassy eyes locked onto me the moment I stepped in, and I rubbed my chin. This thing definitely looked beyond a Grade 4 or 3 spirit, maybe 2? It's been a while since I watched Jujutsu Kaisen. I don't exactly remember the classifications.

"Choke...!!!"

The Cursed Spirit opened its mouth and unleashed a giant wave of gas that rushed towards me like a physical wave and went inside my body. My eyes melted out of my skull and blood cascaded out of my mouth and dripped onto the ground. I dropped to the ground and the world went blank.

Ok, Precognition confirms this guy is a fucking danger and a half. As the spirit took a deep breath and filled its mouth with gas, I finally activated my epic ability for the first time.

Seraph Tracers.

Instantly, white, almost translucent wings far larger and longer than my body erupted from my back over my clothes, they glowed faintly with an almost angelic light that looked even more ethereal in the darkened hallway.

"Puff!!!"

He let out the same stream of dangerous toxic gas I saw in my Precognition, but this time I had a response. With barely a thought, the wings on my back came to life and fanned.

"Gueh!"

With a single mighty flap of my wings, the steam of toxic gas was swept back towards the Cursed Spirit. And I did not stop with just that. I crouched down on the ground. I instinctively felt how my ability worked. To fly I didn't need to flap the wings; I just needed to want to fly. The wings were almost more conceptual than real.

Woosh!

With a single flap of the wings, my form blurred, my feet left the ground and I ripped through the air at speeds far faster than a car. And the cursed spirit who did not expect my charge was not able to react as I passed it by.

Schwing!

"Gueeehhh!!!"

As I was passing by, one of my wings lashed out and tore off one of legs of the cursed spirit. And I managed to barely stop myself from hitting the wall on the other end of the hall from my speed, that was going to take a while to get used to. The cursed spirit clutched the bleeding stub where their leg used to be while screaming in agony.

'One more.'

I crouched again, preparing to dash again. Thanks to the wings, I moved too fast to breathe in the gas, but it still stung my skin. I'd aim for the head this time.

"Choke you...!"

But this time, it was the monster that charged at me, its large body stumbling over to me before its back opened up in a grotesque manner, and it let gas erupt from its back like vents to move far faster.

I had to abandon my charge and instead poise my wings in front of me last minute.

Heavy...!

The fist of the cursed spirit struck my wings which felt like being slammed by a freight train as I was launched into the air and my back hit the back of some lockers, I felt a spittle of blood in my mouth.

Woosh! Bang!

I quickly launched myself off and sailed through the top of the corridor as the monster charged at where I was and demolished the wall. The large cloud of dust it kicked up obscured both of our views, giving me a moment to think.

Alright, this is getting a wee bit dangerous. Let's see if this thing helps. If not, I may have to siege it with Black Knights.

I held a hand out and the air shimmered for a split second before the [Golem Core] was ejected from the familiar space. It was roughly the size of a black and yellow basketball. The core dropped into the solid concrete floor with a thud before sinking into it like it was quicksand.

"Smother...! Choke...! Cough...! Sickening...!"

The spirit emerged from the ruins of the wall it broke down with vengeance burning in its sickened eyes. It really took that leg personally. I stayed floating in the air as naturally as walking on the ground as it opened up its steam vents again and prepared to charge at me. But before it did-

"-Gak!"

The floor beneath it shifted and morphed, two large tree sized hands came out of the ground and grabbed its arms while the rest of the golem made of concrete emerged out of the corridors floor, its body was almost as large as the entire hallway, made of solid concrete and metal pipes it wrestled the cursed spirit without saying a word. It had assimilated with the floor of the school and used it to build its body.

Nice going buddy.

I sent a mental command to the Golem to keep holding it down as I backed up further down the hall. The golem and spirit seemed to be evenly matched, but one had all 4 limbs while the other did not, even though the gas of the spirit melted the golem, it was constantly repairing itself with the floor they stood on so it hardly mattered.

'Seraph... Swift!'

Coming up with a cringe name on the spot, I dashed from the end of the hallway towards the duo, the distance allowing Seraph Wings to accelerate me to great speeds and my traits allowed me to control myself even at those speeds. I extended the wings even further, reaching several meters in length, enough to cover one wall to the other.

Schwing!

I felt a jarring feeling at my shoulder alongside a jolt of pain as I passed by both the golem and spirit and barely managed to stop myself from splattering against the other end of the hallway.

Fsshhhh!!!

A moment after, I turned my head back to see both the Golem and the Cursed Spirit's torso's sliding off from their lower halves, having been bisected by my Seraph Tracers, even if at the cost of dislocating my shoulder.

The body of the cursed spirit turned to foul smelling smoke while my beloved Golem Core simply rebuild it's body, I had instructed it to place the Core in its legs foot and intentionally aimed for both of their waists, like a high speed guillotine, and it worked better than I had thought.

Feat Achieved! Hunt a Cursed Spirit(Grade 2 - Plume Evil) for the first time

+1x Gold Ability Gacha Ticket

A/N: Plans and plans, as much as Felix wants to relax, he knows he has a job to do, and he cannot fuck around perpetually. Especially when he doesn't even know what part of the timeline he is in, so decides to actually get going after stuffing himself. Dangerous as it is, Jujutsu Kaisen is a treasure trove of opportunities.

This Cursed Spirit fight was pretty fun to write, and it shows that Felix really is not hot shit here, the Reaper of Night City may have tricks and experience up his sleeve, but this is a world with real monsters that will actually push Felix now that he does not have the exact counters to the world like last time with Precognition and Giffany. What did you guys think about his first real step into the world of Jujutsu? I'd love to know.
