Viona's POV
The news playing on Jane's car screen told me one thing clearly: My father had already gotten Rafael first.
The purpose was obvious. He wanted to tie Rafael down with something he could never ignore. Even if I got kidnapped, Rafael would never gamble his patients' lives against mine. That was the price of carrying a profession he had sworn on with his own life.
So I didn't dare hope they hadn't already talked about the ugly past.
Whatever happened this morning, I needed to brace myself for the consequences.
My phone suddenly vibrated with the message I had been waiting for. I read it quickly.
"No, Jane. The hospital said Rafael still hasn't arrived there yet," I said sharply.
"Fine. Still heading straight to the mansion, copy that." Jane answered firmly while pressing harder on the pedal.
I gritted my teeth and listened carefully to the news spilling from the car speakers.
