I stood just inside the room, my hands clasped too tightly in front of me, my gaze fixed on Astria as Kaiden carefully lowered her onto one of the beds.
She let out a quiet, pained sound, her body tensing even in unconsciousness, and something in my chest twisted uncomfortably at the sound. This was bad. Worse than bad. Where are the physicians.
"Why is no one here?" I asked, my voice sharper than I intended, the unease bleeding through despite my attempt to remain composed.
Elias stood beside me, his expression controlled but his posture rigid, his attention fixed on the situation with a quiet intensity that made the air feel heavier. "They rotate shifts," he said calmly, though there was an edge beneath it. "At this hour, only a few remain on call."
That was not enough. Not when someone looked like that.
[Host is entering panic mode.]
I am not panicking.
[Host is absolutely panicking.]
