My entire body tensed instantly.
I spun toward the voice.
Gwen remained near the doorway for several long seconds, the soft forge light from downstairs casting faint orange shadows across her face. Her expression held none of the suspicion or hostility I expected. If anything, she looked almost amused.
Slowly, she stepped further into the room.
"Are ye certain ye should have done that?" she repeated gently.
I forced myself to regain composure immediately. The shock vanished from my expression almost instantly, replaced instead with the same cold mask I usually wore whenever someone became dangerous.
My gaze sharpened and an icy look settled across my features.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked carefully.
I kept my tone level despite the unease rising inside my chest. If she knew something, I needed information before reacting recklessly.
Gwen studied me for another second before chuckling softly.
