Chapter 468 - Between Cold and Warm, She Still Chooses to Be With You

Chapter 468

Her small and light body curled tightly within Theo's embrace.

So tightly that the boundary between her body and Theo's became blurred.

Becoming something that could no longer be distinguished as belonging to one or the other.

And within that suffocating embrace, Aldraya lifted her face slowly.

With undeniable certainty.

With eyes that were empty yet full.

Staring directly at Theo, piercing through everything between them.

Aldraya's voice came out the same way it always did.

Without significant rise or fall in tone.

Without accompanying expression.

Yet with a weight that could never be ignored by anyone who heard it.

The claim that she had recovered.

That she was ready to resume observing alongside Theo.

That yesterday had only been a brief pause in a long, unfinished narrative.

All of it was spoken with full awareness that those words would be accepted without question.

And Theo, who at that moment still felt the warmth of Aldraya's body against his chest.

Who still felt the small weight resting on his arms with an unreasonable trust.

Responded in a way he had never done with anyone else.

Both of his hands rose gently.

Fingers that usually held a pen and wrote destinies now touched porcelain-like cheeks of pure white.

Cheeks that felt cold at the fingertips, yet soft and flexible in a way only something created—not born—could possess.

A small pinch began from the left side.

Followed by the right.

Both cheeks were gently pulled.

With full awareness that beneath that softness lay something far more fragile than it appeared.

Something that could shatter if the pressure applied was wrong.

Within that gentle pull.

Within the stretch of porcelain skin returning to its original form after being released.

Theo conveyed what he had truly wanted to say since Aldraya fell ill the previous day.

Not grand words that required more space than available.

Nor poetic sentences like those he usually wrote in his small yellow book.

But a simple confession of happiness that came uninvited.

Upon realizing that Aldraya no longer had a fever like yesterday.

That her small body no longer trembled within his consciousness.

That there was a relief whose origin did not need to be explained.

When seeing those flat eyes open and looking at him the same way as always.

And another happiness no less important.

That Aldraya still wished to continue the mission together.

That even though the synchronization process was still ongoing.

Even though there were four aspects working deep within Theo's consciousness to stabilize the merging identity.

Aldraya still chose to remain by Theo's side.

To follow every movement of Ilux Rediona.

To carry out what had been their purpose since the very beginning when they decided to do this together.

Between those words, Theo's fingers occasionally moved upward.

Gently stroking Aldraya's head.

Combing through her long silver-white hair that seemed endless.

Feeling how those fine strands flowed between his fingers like water that would never run dry.

And within that touch, something was quietly stored in the deepest place of memory.

Something about warmth that did not require the sun to exist.

About a presence that made each step no longer feel alone.

Even as the world continued to move without ever caring who stood within it.

"To be honest, I somewhat regret saying it."

And that was where the warmth of that memory began to crack.

Like glass that had held a weight far longer than it was ever meant to bear.

Theo, who still felt the lingering softness of Aldraya's hair at his fingertips.

Who still held the trace of pinching those porcelain cheeks in his palms.

Suddenly felt something else rising from his throat.

Something he could not hold back.

Even though he knew that holding it in would be far easier than letting it out.

The words came out in a way uncharacteristic for someone whose every word was usually weighed countless times before being spoken.

They came out like water seeking an escape when a dam begins to crack.

Accompanied by a short exhale so strong it almost felt like something suppressed for centuries had finally found its way out.

That there was regret.

That there was something lodged in his chest that could not be explained by any reason.

That it would be better if Aldraya abandoned all the illusions she had built in her mind about how the two of them would carry out this surveillance mission together.

That the image of synchronized steps.

Of shadows walking side by side.

Of a togetherness that needed no doubt.

All of it had to be set aside for now.

Placed in the farthest space away from hope.

The next exhale was longer.

Deeper.

Heavier.

As if Theo was drawing all the air in the room into his lungs.

Hoping that by doing so, the next words would be easier to say.

But air could never lighten what had already become a burden within.

And the six-second pause he created between the two parts of that sentence felt longer than it should have.

Like a gap that continued to widen between two shores that were meant to meet.

Six seconds in which Aldraya was still in his embrace.

Still with that flat face staring at him without blinking.

Still with silver-white hair spilling over his arms like a river that never knew it would be redirected.

Six seconds in which Theo felt how difficult it was to let go of something that had become so warm in his grasp.

How heavy it was to say that there was another main mission no less important for Aldraya to carry out.

That there was a task that had to be separated from the togetherness that had always been their only way of moving.

And when those six seconds finally passed.

When that long breath was slowly released, carrying with it all the reluctance that could not be spoken.

Those words fell with cold certainty.

With undeniable logic.

With the awareness that there were things that had to be done.

Even if not a single part of oneself wished for it.

Aldraya's flat face finally showed something.

Not a change of expression in the way ordinary beings would understand.

But a movement so subtle it was almost invisible.

A movement that could only be caught by eyes accustomed to reading a language of the body that was never taught anywhere.

Her head, which had been resting against Theo's chest.

Began to move slowly.

With precise inclination.

Like a celestial object shifting its axis without ever knowing why it must do so.

Her silver-white hair shifted.

Flowing to one side.

Opening a small space between them.

And within that space.

Aldraya's eyes, empty yet full, looked at Theo with a question that did not need to be spoken.

Because it was already written across every corner of her face.

What caused Theo's expression to be carved with such overwhelming guilt—

That was what Aldraya wanted to know.

Not because she needed an explanation to understand.

But because she wanted to hear it from the same voice she had always trusted above all others.

Because she wanted to be certain that what appeared on the surface was real.

And would not disappear the moment she blinked.
