Chapter 233 - Brother Lin, You Still Need to Practice?

Lin Chen looked at Wang Rui, who seemed a little miffed.

But if he was truly skilled, and his superiors had sent him to teach marksmanship, Lin Chen completely understood his frustration.

Someone with less talent might still be struggling after six months of training.

Who would willingly waste so much of their time for nothing?

"Uncle Wang, my dad can shoot," Lin Xiaoqian said in her sweet, childish voice, looking up at Wang Rui.

Wang Rui turned to Lin Xiaoqian, his expression softening instantly. "What's your name, little one? Has your dad practiced shooting here before?"

"Daddy took me to an amusement park," Lin Xiaoqian replied. "They have shooting games there, and Daddy's really good at it."

Wang Rui: "..."

*Amusement park games don't count.*

He turned to Lin Chen. "Mr. Lin, you'll primarily be practicing with handguns. However, the leadership has asked that you also familiarize yourself with other firearms if you're interested."

"Understood. Thank you for the trouble," Lin Chen replied.

Wang Rui's expression eased somewhat. At least Lin Chen was polite, and his daughter was undeniably adorable.

"Mr. Lin, please get in the car. We're heading to the shooting range."

Soon, they arrived at the shooting range. Wang Rui opened the trunk of the car, first retrieving a handgun and a box of handgun ammunition.

"Mr. Lin, please put the earmuffs on Qianqian. The sound will be loud, and I don't want her to be startled."

Wang Rui handed Lin Chen a pair of earmuffs.

After Lin Chen had fitted them onto Lin Xiaoqian, she asked, "Uncle Wang, doesn't Daddy have any? Won't Daddy be scared?"

Wang Rui crouched down. "Qianqian, your daddy doesn't need them. He's an adult and needs to get used to it. That way, he won't be scared when he fires his gun later."

"Mmm-hmm," Lin Xiaoqian nodded.

Wang Rui stood up and turned to Lin Chen. "Mr. Lin, your daughter is very cute. My daughter is about the same age as yours, but I don't have as much time to spend with her."

"The leadership said you need excellent marksmanship to avoid injuring yourself or innocent bystanders."

"While you have some basic shooting... foundation, I think you'll still need at least a month of practice."

At the mention of "basic shooting foundation," his mouth twitched. The skills he'd learned at the amusement park were utterly useless here.

"Instructor Wang, I've also practiced at an overseas shooting range," Lin Chen said.

Wang Rui nodded. "That's good. I'll demonstrate first, then you can take a few shots so I can assess you."

"Since you're a beginner, absolutely do not attempt single-handed shooting. You must use two hands to grip the firearm. Here—"

Wang Rui began explaining the technique in detail.

Though he felt a slight resentment, as a soldier, he had to obey orders, no matter how he felt.

*Bang, bang, bang—*

After his explanation, Wang Rui began firing.

He was shooting at a standard 25-meter chest target, firing five consecutive shots, all of which struck the mark precisely.

"Mr. Lin, ordinary people often misunderstand handguns. Hitting a target at this distance isn't easy."

"Your requirement is to fire five consecutive shots without looking at the score, and hit the target every time. If you meet this, you'll pass this stage of the assessment."

"There will be subsequent stages, including one-handed shooting and shooting at moving targets," Wang Rui continued.

Lin Chen nodded, then turned to Lin Xiaoqian. "Qianqian, were you scared by the gunshots?"

"Daddy, I wasn't!"

"I'm very brave!" Lin Xiaoqian declared loudly.

Lin Chen patted her head. Wang Rui handed the pistol to Lin Chen. "Aim at the target before you disengage the safety."

He positioned Lin Xiaoqian behind him, knowing that some beginners might accidentally injure themselves with a firearm.

*Bang, bang, bang—* Lin Chen fired rapidly, also firing five shots. His scores even surpassed Wang Rui's.

After Lin Chen finished, Wang Rui looked at him with surprise. "Mr. Lin, you've clearly practiced more than just a little. Your skill level would make you a sharpshooter in the military!"

He showed no resentment at being outdone. The faster Lin Chen passed, the sooner he could move on to other tasks.

"I've fired quite a few rounds at ranges abroad," Lin Chen said with a smile.

Wang Rui nodded. "Having that foundation is excellent. The passing standard set by your superiors is a bit higher than usual. If you hadn't been so diligent, I might have thought you'd need three to five months to train."

Lin Xiaoqian giggled. "Uncle Wang, I told you, my dad is *very* impressive."

"Hmm... your dad is indeed very impressive," Wang Rui conceded. "Lin Chen, try shooting with one hand again. In a real combat situation, it might not be practical to aim and fire with two hands."

"Alright," Lin Chen nodded.

He fired five more rounds with one hand. With his strength and shooting skills, his aim was rock-steady. He scored a perfect 50 rings!

Wang Rui's score was 48 rings.

Lin Chen had been unfamiliar with the pistol at first, scoring 49 rings with two hands. Now, he had achieved a perfect score with one hand.

Wang Rui was incredulous.

Pistols are nowhere near as accurate as rifles. Hitting the target at 25 meters is considered good. Yet Lin Chen had scored a perfect 10 rings with every shot.

"Brother Lin, you're awesome," Wang Rui said, giving him a thumbs-up.

Even with one hand, he only occasionally managed to score 50 rings.

Wang Rui quickly arranged for Lin Chen to practice with moving targets, a crucial exercise to prevent accidental harm to innocents.

"Brother Lin, congratulations! You passed!" Wang Rui said, his voice filled with delight. "The higher-ups don't really know you. What need do you have of my teaching? Frankly, your marksmanship is so good, you should be teaching me instead."

Lin Chen smiled. "Your shooting is excellent too, Wang Rui. Since we're here, I'd like to try out some different firearms."

"Sure, Brother Lin, help yourself," Wang Rui replied readily.

Lin Chen crouched down and began teaching Lin Xiaoqian. His marksmanship was now at the Grandmaster level, formidable indeed, but he still hadn't reached the Great Grandmaster tier. He felt it wasn't enough.

Wang Rui watched from the side, utterly bewildered.

The instructor had somehow become Lin Chen, and Lin Chen was teaching his own daughter, Lin Xiaoqian, who looked no older than three.

"Brother Lin, Qianqian is too young," Wang Rui protested after a while. "Even if you teach her, she won't learn anything."

"She needs to understand the dangers of firearms," Lin Chen replied. "I can't keep them locked in a safe all the time. The chances of her encountering one might be low, but we still need to be prepared."

"That's true," Wang Rui nodded.

Time ticked by as Lin Chen taught Lin Xiaoqian about handguns, rifles, submachine guns, and sniper rifles, explaining each one in detail.

His shooting experience grew steadily.

While he could gain experience at the amusement park, it was nothing compared to the thrill of a real shooting range. While teaching Lin Xiaoqian, he occasionally got to take a few shots himself.

*Good heavens, her skill surpasses even that of a king of soldiers,* Wang Rui muttered to himself.

As the sun began to set, after two or three hours at the range, Lin Chen's shooting experience had significantly increased.

"Wang Rui, we'll come back to practice again tomorrow," Lin Chen said with a smile.

Wang Rui: "..."

"Brother Lin, you don't need to keep learning. You just want to keep having fun here, don't you?"

Lin Chen: "You're just stating the obvious."

Wang Rui: "Come whenever you want, Brother Lin. I'd originally planned for you to spend months learning."

"Qianqian, Uncle Wang will prepare a gift for you tomorrow."
