Chapter 428 - Chapter 178: Under the Shadow of the Death God

Ron stepped up like a crab and stood before the cross-dressed Snape.

"Stay focused, and don't be afraid!" Professor Lupin shouted with a smile.

Just as he finished speaking, a vortex rose around 'Snape', enveloping him completely.

Soon, a giant spider appeared in front of Ron, with red patterns on its back, and legs covered with sharp... it was unclear whether they were barbs or hairs, its large pincers clicking as if it intended to cut Ron in half.

Ron let out a "woo" sound, and even though his dueling skills were now on par with a typical fifth or sixth-year student, it was hard to stay calm when facing a childhood fear.

He took a deep breath and drew his magic wand.

"Riddikulus!" he shouted loudly.

The spider suddenly had roller skates on its eight feet, causing it to slip and fall heavily onto the floor.

Everyone burst into laughter.

"Seamus! You're next!" Professor Lupin said with a grin.

Seamus stepped forward, and the spider spun once more, turning into a ghostly woman where it once stood.

The ghost looked eerie and terrifying, like something out of a Japanese horror movie, reaching out with a hand and uttering an ominous sneer.

"Riddikulus!" Seamus shouted loudly.

The ghost instantly turned into a mouse, scrambling around and squeaking.

"Next! Miss Granger!" Lupin clapped and shouted.

Hermione stepped up to the mouse, and before long, it transformed into a giant exam paper with Hermione's name on it, and a huge "T" beside it.

She raised her magic wand and pointed at the paper: "Riddikulus!"

The paper tore with a rending sound, shredding into fragments – then turned into a parrot made of scraps, just like Jack.

"Next! Miss Grindelwald!" Professor Lupin called out again.

Vivi approached the Boggart parrot, standing still.

Everyone held their breath, eager to see what the frightening transfer student's Boggart would become.

The Boggart suddenly cracked with a snap, a puff of smoke erupting on the spot.

The smoke quickly cleared, revealing a person.

"Harry?!" Ron exclaimed instinctively: "It's actually Harry?"

Yes, Vivi's Boggart was Harry...?

Professor Lupin stood up straight, looking puzzled at the Boggart transformed into Harry.

Harry himself felt a bit strange, seeing another version of himself not far away… No, why is Vivi's Boggart me?!

However, what no one expected was that Vivi did not immediately recite the spell. Instead, she waited for the Boggart to approach her.

The Boggart Harry walked up to Vivi, bearing a haughty smile like Cassandra's.

"Ha, Dud—what an inferior…"

Vivi's magic wand glowed with a burst of green light.

Professor Lupin felt a bit uneasy; he was certain that the Riddikulus spell wasn't green—

"Riddikulus!" Vivi said softly.

The Harry suddenly froze, his clothes turning into a lady's dress, topped with a sun hat of a style favored by ladies a century ago.

Everyone was stunned for a few seconds, then burst into laughter even more exaggerated than when seeing the cross-dressed Snape.

Especially Ron and Hermione, pointing at the real Harry and erupting with uproarious laughter.

"Alright, next—" Professor Lupin clapped and said: "Harry, it's your turn—"

Harry could swear that Professor Lupin did it on purpose, to make him face his cross-dressed self.

But he had no evidence to prove Professor Lupin did it on purpose, so he had to stand out and face the cross-dressed version of himself.

The cross-dressed Harry stood upright, and with a puff of smoke erupted once more.

The smoke cleared, revealing a hooded figure wielding a scythe.

The figure raised the scythe high, swinging it towards Vivi on the side.

"Riddikulus!" he shouted loudly, pointing his magic wand at the Death God Boggart.

The Boggart made a snapping sound and transformed into a comical dog head.

The classmates once again erupted in laughter, never having seen such a funny dog head before.

"Next, Miss Abbo!" Professor Lupin said again.

Hanna stepped forward, and the dog head transformed into a massive venomous snake.

"Riddikulus!" Hanna recited the spell, pointing at the snake.

The snake turned into a red ribbon, looking very festive.

Professor Lupin clapped his hands, inviting the students to step forward again.

It's worth admitting that the Boggart was quite persistent; it lasted until all the students had faced their worst fears before being put back into the cabinet by Professor Lupin.

"Since the class is over, let's give the poor Boggart a rest." he said.

The classroom echoed with claps, a sign that Professor Lupin had earned the approval of the majority.

Before the class, they had been worried about whether Professor Lupin would be a competent teacher.

"Splendid." Professor Lupin said loudly: "Well done, everyone—I'm awarding you five points, all four houses together—because your laughter defeated the Boggart."

"Additionally, everyone who participated in defeating the Boggart will receive five points." Professor Lupin said again: "A wonderful lesson—but I'm still not letting you go, I'm assigning you some homework, please carefully read the chapter on Boggarts and write a nine-inch essay, due Monday… That's all, class dismissed!"
