"Oh, no."
The solid stone wall directly beside Pike suddenly slid open, revealing a dark, square aperture.
*THWIP-THWIP-THWIP-THWIP.*
Dozens of thin, black-tipped steel darts fired simultaneously from the hidden mechanism. The speed of the darts was terrifying. They covered the short distance in less than a blink of an eye.
Pike didn't even have time to raise his arms.
The steel darts slammed directly into his face, his throat, and the unprotected gaps in his chest armour. The tips of the darts were coated in a thick, highly toxic green sludge.
Pike let out a wet, gurgling sound. He dropped his crossbow. His hands flew to his throat, trying to pull the darts out. But the poison was instantaneous. The veins in his neck and face turned a hideous, rotting black within seconds.
He choked violently on his own poisoned blood. His eyes rolled to the back of his head, and he collapsed sideways onto the cold stone floor, dead before he even stopped twitching.
