Chapter 18 - Zabuza

[1st POV]

"His name is Zabuza of the Hidden Mist, one of the strongest shinobi of the village before he went rogue. He was a previous member of the Hidden Mist Seven Swordsmen," Kakashi named the enemy, giving information as quick as he can.

"And you're Kakashi of the Hidden Leaf, the Copy Ninja. A shinobi that was said to have mastered over a thousand jutsu," Zabuza said, but he was not talking just for the sake of it. I could already feel his chakra expanding outwards to prepare for a jutsu, Kakashi should see it too.

"I can see why the Demon Brothers failed. I didn't expect an elite jonin to bodyguard the target," he said.

"But I guess all is for good. I saw you on the bingo book, you have quite the bounty on your head yourself," Zabuza said.

A strange mist began rising in our surroundings. All of the chakra that I sensed leaving from his body began materializing in the form of mist. The obstruction was rapid and almost instantaneous.

Our group was forced to stick together. The four of us stood in all directions around our client. Sasuke was on the front, Naruto on the right, Sakura on the left and I protected the back. Kakashi on the other hand was engaging with the enemy.

The mist began growing rapidly until it was almost impossible to see more than two metres ahead. It was midday, it was supposed to be bright but a chilling kind of blindness overwhelmed us. It was not darkness, and I think that made everything creepier.

Zabuza also disappeared in the mist. I did not know what jutsu he used but I could guess the concept. He probably used the transformation jutsu to become part of the mist. And since the mist was created from his chakra in the first place, it was impossible to pinpoint his location even with the Sharingan.

The three students of Kakashi were standing in position but all were struck with fear as killing intent began flooding out. It felt like every blow of wind was a blade on our neck. Someone, or something out there was so intent on killing us that we could literally feel it and fear it.

I fared not much better, but the quiet confidence I had in my own strength gave me courage.

"Eight points. Larynx, spine, lungs, liver, jugular, saphen artery, heart. Which should be my kill point," Zabuza spoke in his creepy voice. The sound came from everywhere.

"Calm down everyone, he is just trying to scare you," Kakashi said, his eyes moving rapidly to follow Zabuza in the mists.

I could hear Sasuke gritting his teeth and Sakura whimpering in fear. Naruto and I were the only ones who were silent amid all of it.

"It's over," the voice came again, but this time it had a clear origin.

Zabuza was right beside us. Beside me to be exact.

His sword blurred, giant moving at the speed of a microscopic needle. My neck did not even have time to react before it was sliced clean off.

Fuck, I knew he would target me first after my show of unknown ability. He knew what Kakashi was capable of, he knew the others were weak, but the decently strong ninja with an unknown ability, that was his first target.

My body fell down, my head crashed on the ground before my body followed.

But a second later, my body exploded in a burst of smoke, adding into the mist.

"What...?"

My hand emerged from the ground and grabbed his ankle. It was the use of the C-rank Earth jutsu, Headhunter. It was a popular jutsu that allowed the user to move underground, used by many Leaf shinobi who were masters of wind and earth jutsu.

Chiiiiii!!~

A chilling sound, like the song of a thousand birds.

In that short instance where I was able to immobilize Zabuza, Kakashi blitzed forward at the speed of literal lightning. It was fast, so much faster than even the Body Flicker jutsu. Lightning spilled everywhere and he tore Zabuza into pieces.

Liquid spilled, but it was not red blood. It was a water clone.

I emerged fully from the ground with a leap, barely dodging the cleaver that swung low on the ground. I saw Zabuza for a brief moment before he disappeared like mist right in front of my eyes.

Kakashi blurred with a cry of lightning, but he missed Zabuza once more. He was faster, much faster than the enemy but Zabuza was always a step ahead with his jutsu.

"Damn it okay!!" I screamed and made a shadow clone once more.

The shadow clone twisted his body and grabbed me by the hand before throwing me higher towards the sky. He dispersed himself immediately after throwing me up into the sky.

I began making hand signs while I was thrown up in the air. When my body stopped rising and began its descent, I finally finished the signs.

I used a good chunk of my chakra for this.

"Everyone!! Stick to the ground!!" I screamed before I inhaled a gust of air into my lungs. My chest started expanding outwards to ridiculous proportions. It was like my chest was made of balloon and not flesh.

"Wind Style: Tempest Obliteration!!" I compressed the wind inside my lungs before spitting out a spiraling hurricane that expands as it travels, almost like an explosion.

*BOOOOOOM!!!*

It was one of my most powerful jutsu, an A rank wind jutsu that used at least 1/10th of my whole chakra reserves.

It may be a bit much but I did not want to take chances. The mist here was created by chakra and it wouldn't be dispersed easily by low level wind jutsu.

Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke made their feet stuck firmly on the ground with their chakra. It was the same principle as how they were able to stick upside down on a tree. They held down Mr Tazuna so that he was not ripped from the ground by the strong winds. Kakashi blurred and came to shield them as well.

I aimed the hurricane on the earth without much target. A huge crater was carved out by wind blades before they exploded out in spiraling violence that ripped the top layers of the earth and uprooted small trees.

A huge shockwave erupted a few seconds into the attack. That was enough to lift Sakura up but Kakashi caught her amid the violent winds.

Trees acted like gymnasts as they bent to the utmost limit if they were strong enough to be rooted on the earth. The wave of force completely rearranged the very structure of that region.

The attack lasted around seven seconds before it stopped and I landed in the small crater with a thud.

My eyes immediately fell on Zabuza who had nowhere to hide anymore. His eyes were bloodshot and he stared at me with a mix of anger and disbelief.

I tried to throw a smile but then Zabuza blurred into an afterimage. I saw him dragging his massive greatsword behind him and he swung at my body with the intent of splitting me.

Fortunately, speed was not his forte with his bigass sword. Had speed been his speciality, he wouldn't even bother with the mist jutsu to hide himself. That meant he was not as fast as he would like.

I jumped into the air and rolled away from his swing. He blurred again, taking a new foothold before he swung the blade vertically down at me.

But Kakashi entered the battle. His attack turned into a block halfway, creating awkward movement. I saw him reposition himself, I was not sure why he did that when he could plant himself further into the ground.

Kakashi appeared with a streak of lightning. The sound of the Chidori felt like reality itself was glitching, unable to bear the busted technique. His hand covered in angry lightning easily sliced through the big hunk of metal Zabuza called his sword before he was launched away at incredible speed into the lake.

Oh so that's why he repositioned. He wanted to be shot back into the lake where the water could help his jutsu.

The sound of a piece of metal hitting the ground resounded. I looked down to see a giant piece of Zabuza's sword on the ground along with a splatter of blood. The Chidori was an unstoppable attack which you could survive, and only survive, if you are lucky.

"You okay Suyou?" Kakashi asked while flicking his arm that still buzzed with blue lightning.

Zabuza emerged from the water with a splash. He climbed on the water like it was solid and he stood there while analyzing his wound.

"Thanks for the assist Suyou, but I will take it from here," Kakashi said before he used Body Flicker towards the lake.

Kakashi was not playing around because the next thing you know, multiple explosions went off in the lake. That caused the water to rise up in giant waves that shook the earth. I could see their figures zipping and blitzing through the water.

They did not even take steps to move as they zipped through the surface of the water and began exchanging blows. Oddly enough, Kakashi was confident in taking the fight to the water. I suppose he was confident since he could always copy Zabuza so its not like he had the advantage.

In the meantime, I went to the client to protect him. I remembered there was still Haku out there that could attack any time.

The children were in no mood to do their duty as they looked out with slack jaw at the ongoing fight that was happening. It was difficult to wrap their heads around just the intensity of a jonin fight.

Shinobis of that level were pure superhuman. I bet they couldn't even follow the fight properly, that was just how fast they were moving. Exchanging a hundred blows in the span of five seconds was not out of the equation at the speed they were moving.
