The hospital doors slammed open.
Keifer was the first one inside.
He was still carrying Jay.
His hands were shaking so badly that he almost stumbled.
keifer: DOCTOR!
His voice echoed through the entire emergency department.
keifer: SOMEONE CALL A DOCTOR! PLEASE!
A nurse immediately rushed toward them.
nurse: Sir, put her here—
keifer: PLEASE HELP HER!
They moved Jay onto the emergency bed.
Keifer refused to let go until the last possible second.
Then the doctors surrounded her.
Everything suddenly became noise.
Footsteps.
Orders.
Machines.
Doors opening.
People shouting.
And then—
The surgery doors closed.
Keifer stood there.
Frozen.
His hands were trembling.
There was nothing he could do.
Nothing.
For the first time in his life, Keifer had absolutely no control over what happened next.
Angelo walked up behind him.
angelo: Keifer...
Keifer didn't answer.
He just stared at the closed doors.
keifer: She's going to be okay.
Nobody answered.
keifer: She's going to be okay.
His voice cracked.
keifer: She has to be.
Aries slowly sat down on one of the hospital chairs.
His face was buried in his hands.
Percy stood beside him, completely silent.
Rory, David, Ci N, Yuri, Edrix, Calix and the others were scattered around the hallway.
The girls had already been taken home safely by one of the Section E member.
But the rest stayed.
Nobody wanted to leave.
Not when Jay was behind those doors.
Not when their entire world felt like it had stopped.
Ci N was crying openly.
felix immediately sat beside him.
Felix didn't say anything.
He just put a hand on Ci N's shoulder.
Ci N: She's my sister...
His voice broke.
ci n: She's literally my sister...
Felix squeezed his shoulder.
felix: I know.
ci n: She's not even my sister by blood... but she's my sister.
He wiped his face.
ci n: She always acted like she had to take care of everyone...
A weak laugh escaped him through the tears.
ci n: And now who's gonna annoy me every five minutes?...
Nobody laughed.
Because they all knew exactly what he meant.
Across the hallway, Aries was staring at the floor.
aries: I just got her back.
Percy looked at him.
aries: I JUST got her back.
His voice became smaller.
aries: I can't lose her again.
Percy sat beside him.
Percy was crying too.
He remembered the promise he made to jay..
I'll let you meet your dad.
percy: I promised her....
Aries looked at him.
percy: I promised I'd help her meet her dad.
He covered his face.
percy: I can't break that promise.
Angelo stood a few feet away.
He wasn't sobbing.
He wasn't screaming.
He was just standing there.
Silent tears slowly running down his face.
Because Angelo had always been the one who stayed strong.
The one who handled things.
The one who protected everyone.
But now???
He couldn't protect Jay.
And that thought destroyed him..
angelo: I should've let her live her life.
Everyone looked at him.
angelo: She wanted so many things...
His voice trembled.
angelo: And I kept worrying about protecting her.
He looked toward the surgery doors.
angelo: Maybe I should've worried more about letting her be happy.
Keifer finally looked at him.
keifer: Don't.
Angelo shook his head.
angelo: I was supposed to keep her safe.
keifer: Don't say that.
angelo: She trusted me.
keifer: ANGELO!!!!.
The hallway went silent.
Keifer's eyes were red.
keifer: Don't blame yourself.
Yuri was sitting alone.
His head was lowered.
Tears fell silently onto his hands.
Jay meant to him too much.
David looked at him.
David didn't know what to say.
So he just sat beside him.
Edrix wiped his face.
edrix: She helped me every single time.
He laughed sadly.
edrix: Even when I didn't ask.
David smiled through his tears.
david: That's Jay.
edrix: Yeah.
He looked toward the doors..
edrix: That's exactly Jay....
Nearby, Kit and Mayo sat together.
Both crying.
kit: She literally got us together.
mayo: I know.
kit: She wouldn't shut up about it...
Mayo gave a tiny broken laugh.
mayo: She said we were "obviously meant to be."
Kit wiped his eyes.
kit: She was so annoying.
mayo: Yeah.
A pause.
mayo: I miss her already...
And then they both broke down again.
Hours passed.
Nobody left.
Nobody ate.
Nobody cared.
The clock kept moving.
12:14.
12:47.
1:36.
2:02.
Keifer hadn't moved from the same spot.
He was sitting with his elbows on his knees, head in his hands, staring at the floor.
Angelo occasionally gave him water.
He didn't drink it.
Percy didn't speak.
Aries barely moved.
Ci N had cried until he was exhausted.
Felix stayed beside him the entire time.
Then—
The surgery doors opened.
Everyone looked up.
A doctor stepped out.
Keifer ran towards him.... everyone too.
keifer: Doctor?is she okay?
The doctor looked exhausted.
He removed his gloves.
doctor: Who is the family?
Keifer stepped forward immediately.
keifer: Me.
Angelo stepped beside him.
angelo: We're her family.
The doctor looked at them.
Then took a breath.
doctor: We did everything we could.
Silence.
Nobody moved.
doctor: Your patient lost a very large amount of blood.
Keifer's face went pale.
doctor: We tried to stabilize her...
He paused.
doctor: I'm sorry...
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Nobody understood.
Not immediately.
The words just...
hung there.
I'm sorry....
I'm sorry. ...
I'm sorry...
Keifer stared at him.
keifer: ...What?
The doctor lowered his eyes.
doctor: I'm very sorry.
And then—
Keifer understood.
His face completely changed.
keifer: No.
The doctor didn't answer.
keifer: No.
He stepped backward.
keifer: No, no, no...
Angelo grabbed his shoulder.
keifer: NO!
His voice exploded through the hallway.
keifer: SHE'S NOT DEAD!
Everyone froze.
Keifer pushed past Angelo.
keifer: YOU'RE WRONG!
He started shaking his head violently.
keifer: CHECK AGAIN!
doctor: Sir—
keifer: CHECK AGAIN!
His voice broke.
keifer: SHE CAN'T BE DEAD!
He grabbed the nearest chair and shoved it away.
keifer: SHE CAN'T LEAVE ME!
Angelo immediately moved toward him.
angelo: Keifer!
keifer: BRING HER BACK!
His breathing was uneven.
keifer: PLEASE!
He looked toward the surgery doors.
keifer: PLEASE JUST BRING HER BACK!
He collapsed against the wall.
keifer: She's not dead...
His voice became barely audible.
keifer: She's not...
He covered his face.
keifer: She can't be.
And that's when Ci N completely broke.
ci n: JAY!
He cried out her name.
Felix caught him before he fell.
ci n: SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO COME BACK!
felix: Ci N...
ci n: SHE PROMISED!
He was sobbing uncontrollably.
ci n: SHE ALWAYS COMES BACK!
Felix held onto him tightly.
felix: I know...
Ci N couldn't stop crying.
ci n: I want my sister...
Across the hallway, Aries stood completely still.
Then he whispered—
aries: No...
Percy looked at him.
aries: No, no...
His eyes filled again.
aries: I just found her.
His voice broke.
aries: I just got my sister back.
He sat down hard.
Percy covered his face.
percy: I promised her that I will protect her no matter what.
His shoulders shook.
percy: I promised.
David turned away, wiping his eyes.
Yuri couldn't even look at the doors anymore.
Edrix sat down against the wall.
Kit and Mayo held onto each other.
And Angelo—
Angelo just stood there.
Silent.
Crying.
He looked at the surgery doors one last time.
angelo: I'm sorry, Jay.
His voice was almost a whisper.
angelo: I'm so sorry.
Keifer suddenly stood again.
keifer: NO!
Everyone looked at him.
keifer: SHE'S NOT GONE!
His voice echoed through the hallway.
keifer: SHE'S JAY!
He pointed toward the surgery room.
keifer: SHE DOESN'T JUST GIVE UP!
He was crying so hard that the words barely came out.
keifer: SHE'S THE STRONGEST PERSON I KNOW!
Angelo stepped closer.
keifer: SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!
His voice cracked.
keifer: SHE'S SUPPOSED TO ANNOY ME!
A broken laugh escaped him.
keifer: She's supposed to yell at Rory...
Rory started crying harder.
keifer: She's supposed to fight with Ci N...
Ci N covered his face.
keifer: She's supposed to bother Angelo...
Angelo closed his eyes.
keifer: She's supposed to make fun of Percy...
Percy lowered his head.
keifer: She's supposed to help Edrix...
Edrix wiped his tears.
keifer: She's supposed to...
Keifer couldn't finish.
He sank to the floor.
keifer: She's supposed to come home.
Nobody spoke.
Because that was the worst part.
Jay wasn't coming home.
At least...
That's what they believed.
The hallway remained silent.
And behind those hospital doors...
Nobody knew that the story wasn't finished yet.
