She picked up her phone and dialed Ned's number. It connected after just two rings.
"Why aren't you asleep yet? It's so late." Ned's voice came through, slightly hoarse.
"I just finished the hotel's annual dinner." Sophie curled her legs up onto the chair. "Someone tried to pursue me tonight—an old colleague, Michael."
There was a second of silence on the other end. "He pursued you?"
"He said he's single, I'm single, we've known each other for many years and understand each other well, and asked if we should get together." The corners of Sophie's mouth lifted slightly. "So I told him I already have a boyfriend. Then he wished me happiness."
"He's quite sensible—not the type to pester."
Sophie laughed softly. "I just got pursued by someone and you're not even jealous?"
"I am jealous. Very jealous," Ned's voice was low and husky. "But I trust you. You're you."
