In the end, it was Wendy Aldridge who came up with the idea to roast the bee pupae—they could skewer the whole hive onto a branch, grill it over the fire, and once it was cooked, pluck out the pupae one by one to eat.
Julian Prescott and Lionel Lincoln both thought this was a good idea. They quickly started a campfire, and following Wendy's instructions, used a branch to skewer the hive and set it over the flames. It was at that moment a black bee suddenly appeared.
The black bee buzzed around the fire, darting rapidly, wings whirring so audibly they could hear the sound. It circled a few times, then shot forward like an arrow, lunging straight at Julian.
"Ah!" Julian leapt up from the ground, narrowly dodging the attack. He waved wildly at the black bee, but its sting still pricked his palm, the pain sharp enough to make him want to cry.
