Lexel's eyes fluttered, then slowly opened.
"Fuck..." he muttered, taking in the walls pressed close on either side, close enough that he could touch both with his arms only half-extended. The rooftop sat just as near, low enough to brush his fingers against if he reached up. "We're in a maze."
"Worse," Ria said.
Lexel turned around, and his heart sank as his mind tried hard not to wander off toward what he was looking at.
The corridor behind him didn't end so much as fold. Stairs climbed upward along the far wall, curved gently, and somehow arrived back at the floor he was already standing on, as if the staircase had simply forgotten which direction was supposed to be up. Further along, another set of steps descended at an angle that should have taken them below the maze entirely, only to open instead onto a walkway running directly overhead, upside down, with two figures crossing it that looked disturbingly like Hono's teammates walking on what should have been the ceiling.
