Layla Escher clapped her hands twice, the sound crisp even against the noise of the fight, a smile settling onto her face like she was enjoying herself far more than a Grandmagus overseeing a tournament had any right to. At the gesture, the platforms shifted again, entire sections of the staircase sliding and rotating without warning, rearranging themselves around the fight like pieces on a board only she could see.
Lexel had just squared up against Mavi, weight already shifting to meet whatever opening she gave him, when the gravity turned again. Not upside down this time. Sideways.
The floor beneath him simply stopped being the floor, and what had been a wall a heartbeat ago became the new ground, rushing up to meet him before he could adjust. He hit it hard, shoulder first, the impact knocking the breath clean out of him and sending him sliding a few feet along what his body still insisted was vertical stone.
