Layla sighed as she watched Lexel, the revelation leaving a strange weight between them. She had spent years believing her own story was uniquely tragic, yet now she was speaking with someone whose homeworld had suffered an invasion without actually being destroyed. There was still something about his tone that suggested he was carrying far more than he had revealed.
"At least we shared the same sentiment."
"Not quite," said Lexel, shaking his head. "My home is not destroyed yet."
Layla's eyes widened slightly. If his world was still intact, then perhaps the circumstances surrounding his hatred toward Aether were different from her own. She studied him with renewed curiosity, especially after hearing him speak so confidently about standing against something that had already consumed an entire world.
"You mean your world is still intact?"
"My world hosted some of the strongest beings, and by fortune I am a close relative," said Lexel.
