Fragments of the past surged through Adrian's mind, one after another. His fingers tightened against the bedsheet.
"She cheated on me," he said quietly.
Gideon stared at him in shock. "She cheated on you?" he repeated in a daze.
Adrian gave a slow nod. "I found out just a few days before our wedding."
The memory still stung. "I was happy back then… She was pregnant, and we were about to get married. Everything felt perfect. Then my medical report came."
He fell silent.
Gideon frowned. "What report?"
Adrian's face turned pale at the recollection, but he forced himself to continue. "I had been feeling constantly exhausted. At first, I thought it was just work pressure, so I ignored it and kept pushing myself. But it only got worse."
Gideon's expression tightened.
Back then, Adrian had been working relentlessly to get the company listed, eventually bringing it into the Fortune 500. Every bit of that success had come from his effort.
