"If you really need help, there are people who offer such services. Do you want me to find someone for you?"
He asked, word by word, with no sarcasm in his tone.
Elara Joyce's lips trembled as tears welled up in her eyes, looking at him in disbelief.
Her shoulders started shaking violently, fingers clenching and unclenching as she repeatedly touched her cheeks.
"How could he say something like that?"
She gripped his hand tightly, finally breaking down as she questioned, "Why? Why are you doing this to me?"
"I've come this far, how can you still be so indifferent?"
She tilted her face upwards, tears mixed with cold water streamed down continuously.
"You said you would take care of me for a lifetime! You said you wouldn't leave me! Curtis Prescott, are you telling me now that all of this was a lie?"
Curtis looked at his arm, which was being clutched, and slowly pried her fingers away, one by one.
