Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2

Leah POV

I couldn't be near Vanessa or anyone else anymore and decided to just leave the event.

I didn't inform Vanessa and honestly I don't think I would be able to look her in the eye especially after the kiss Ace and I shared right in her engagement party.

It was completely wrong and I felt horrible because of it.

I drove back to my house expecting no one but my boyfriend, Ansel suddenly pulled me into his embrace once I entered the room.

I was shocked to see him and felt really guilty like I had been caught doing something I shouldn't.

"What are you doing here?" I shouted but not out of excitement but anger and I could tell he noticed it.

"Huh? What do you mean, baby? Don't you want me here?" His beaming smile immediately dropped as he stared at me expectantly.

"You didn't tell me you would be here! Why did you show up unannounced like this?" I didn't back down, it seemed if I did, I could be admitting to something.

"It was surprise. I haven't been around lately and I wanted to make it up for it with a surprise." Ansel walked over to the dinning area then came back with a two layer cake, "I even bought a cake to surprise you!" a little of his excitement returned and he chirped as he showed me.

"I'm not hungry, I just returned from Vanessa's engagement party and I'm full." I replied coldly. I didn't know why I couldn't stop talking like this to him, it was unfair to him.

"Oh right. No worries, we'll eat it tomorrow." His patience with me right now is admirable and I wonder how he hasn't snapped at me.

His amber eyes showed a glint of worry in them and I knew I was the cause of it, "Hey, Leah, are you okay?" He asked.

"Did anything happen at the party? You know you can tell me," He added. He walked closer to me and with one hand felt my forehead with his palm, "Are you on your period right now?"

"No," I sighed and took a deep breath. I was being unreasonably rude to him and I needed to stop, "I'm just tired, I'm going to bed, sorry."

I didn't wait for his response and just walked up to the bedroom and collapsed on the bed. Tomorrow I would properly apologize to him but right now I needed to get my thoughts in order and sleep off the intense feelings I had at the moment.

The next day I woke up to see I was alone. Ansel probably had to go to work very early and I knew I wasn't going to see him for a while.

I was sad he left without saying goodbye knowing we wouldn't see each other again for a while and I didn't get the chance to apologize in person but I searched for my phone and typed a quick apology and asked how his day was going.

I waited for his reply but it never came, the ringing of the doorbell pulled me away from staring at my phone and I walked over to it to open it.

A delivery man was standing outside with a bouquet of roses. After signing, he gave me the roses which I smelled and loved. It lightened my mood a bit and looked for a card from who sent it.

My first guess was Ansel, he wanted to make me happy after seeing how down I was last night and he didn't say goodbye before leaving this morning but I couldn't find a note.

Ansel usually sends a note along with the flowers his sends me even though they're short which means he wasn't the one who sent them.

I had a guess who it was, – Ace – but I wonder why? Why pursue me when I rejected him? How did he get my address?

I had so many questions but I didn't dwell on it when I remembered I had an afternoon date with my sister and it was already late in the morning and I hadn't showered or eaten.

I immediately showered and dressed but didn't eat because I would soon be having lunch with my sister.

Ace kept on lingering in my mind but I tried not to let it ruin my day especially when I'm going to see my sister.

We met up at a cute cafe, we hugged when we saw each other and Vanessa immediately asked why I left the party so suddenly without telling her.

I lied I wasn't feeling well and didn't want to ruin her day or steal her spotlight and she bought my lie.

The cafe wasn't really busy despite being in afternoon and we easily got a seat bu the window, we ordered tea and some pastries before we continued talking.

"Aren't you curious about how it went after you were gone?" Vanessa chirped, beaming with happiness and I want to be happy for her, I do but the last thing I wanted to talk about was her engagement party.

"Oh my gosh, yesterday was so magical!" She exclaimed, she didn't even bother to hear my response. "All the girls were blushing because of Ace, all their eyes were on him, lusting but that hot stuff is all mine." She bragged, a smug look on her face.

"He's literally perfect in every way and is a gentleman. He treats me so well that I wonder if he's truly a man."

She kept on talking about him, bragging and bragging about how smart he is, how rich he was, how expensive the diamond ring he used to propose was and I just nodded in agreement, trying to hide the slowly building annoyance I was feeling.

I hated that he's the only thing she's talking about, how happy she was talking about him, shamelessly bragging about him when he wasn't doing the same.

I knew the kind of man he was and is far from the gentleman she claimed he was although he is indeed handsome but that doesn't hides the fact that he's actively trying to cheat on my sister with me!

I don't know how much longer I can keep my cool and not show my annoyance as Vanessa wouldn't stop talking about him. It's as if he's the only topic up for discussion.

I decided to change the topic.

"Vanessa, so what are you going to do for work now? You've finished college a while back and I haven't heard from you since, let's catch up so you can tell me all about what's going on in your life right now." I wanted her to talk about anything but her fiance but she didn't seem to get the code and went on about how she first met Ace in college.

"I don't think I'll be working anymore, I'll love to just serve him and have his babies. I know that's what all men truly want, my degree is just to show I'm competent but if he wants, I'll of course work in his company, that's a no brainier Leah." she laughed me off and I was exasperated on how the topic went to Ace again.

It's was as if her world revolved around him and I felt bad.

Just then, a text popped up on my phone screen and I excused myself to read it so I could cut off her rambling.

I opened the text and I froze when I read it.

'I want you, Leah, my love. I love you and not Vanessa. Please accept my feelings for you.'

I was stunned and unable to speak, I wondered how he got my number and how could he dare contact me?

"What's wrong, Leah?" Vanessa asked while leaning forward to see the text.

"It's nothing," I quickly deleted it and kept my phone in my purse but another text notification beeped from my bag.
