Looking around, Liam could spot what looks like pillars in the distance spread around reaching up into the clouds the same as the tower of trials. They all share equal distance from the tower and each other.
"If what I'm thinking is correct then the tower and these pillars are holding up the higher floors of the tower. But the tower is next to the square right? If this place is actually the ground floor of the tower, then maybe the tower we see acts like a passage to the next major floor and a pillar simultaneously"
This confused Liam for a while till he decided to come back to that thought after he had looked around more. He would find out regardless when he entered.
Outside of the park was a market area stretching along a wide street, there were stalls dotted about with some people going back and forth between them. The building and conditions of the streets reminded Liam of depictions of medieval markets.
"Huh? We aren't the only ones here?"
Liam walks up to a market stall, a woman selling vegetables, wearing rags and an apron.
"Excuse me miss" Liam inquired
"The names Gardenia, what can I get for you love?" She reaches out a hand.
Liam shook her hand and continued. "Miss Gardenia it's a pleasure to meet you, I wonder if you might be able to answer a few questions I have regarding the Tower" He says pointedly looking towards the park.
"Of course, you are one of the new generation of transfers right? So what do you wanna know?"
Gathering himself for a moment, Liam asks.
"I suppose first of is where are we? And is there much you can tell me about this town in relations to the tower?"
Gardenia chuckled.
"Where you currently are is a small village town called Onset Village. There aren't too many people here as we are only meant to be here to provide some assistance to each generation of the climbers."
"Climbers?" Liam asks.
"Every 30 or so years batches of transfers or climbers as we call them, will arrive at the park square to challenge the Tower of Tento. The last bunch arrived when I was just a little kid so I've never interacted much with you lot."
Liam was shocked.
"When you were a kid? So you aren't a transfer, but rather born here?"
The flustered Liam made Gardenia smirk. With a small chuckle she continued.
"That's right. We are native to the tower, essentially it's servants in a way. We don't get the same powers as you, we are born into the lower half of the tower in order to give the climbers places to rest and eat without needing to set up farms and houses for themselves. However when it comes to the later zones like this one, there will be no towns. You all have to do everything for yourselves, from houses to farming."
"I see, can you explain the zones to me?"
"Sure, you are currently on floor 0, the first safe zone - Onset Village. After a certain number of floors of the tower will be another major zone, though they will progressively get larger than our little town here and the number of floors will gradually increase between major zones. You see all those pillars on the outskirts? They are the supports that hold up the other safe zones along side the tower itself."
"And before you think of it, they are indestructible so you can't collapse the tower. Nevermind the fact that the collapse would kill anyone in the zones above."
Liam was speechless.
"That's... a lot to take in. Thank you for answering my questions Gardenia."
"No worries sugar, in case you need it, the inn is down the road that way." She points "says 'Inn' on the sign"
She smirks and waves as Liam waled away, returning to selling her vegetables.
