Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Home

Diamond was so happy that she could finally go home. Her bones ached intensely, threatening to give out on her.

She breathed deeply, savoring the cool evening breeze.

It was cool, refreshing, and soothing to the skin.

Her gaze fell on the beautiful flowers that swayed slightly in the direction of the wind.

Her gaze suddenly shifted as a black SUV drove into the compound.

She found it hard to tear her eyes away from the car. She had always wished to have one of those. She couldn't help but envy the sleek black SUV.

She decided to concentrate on where she was going, as it was already getting late.

She got into her cab, and soon she was home.

She entered the apartment sluggishly and collapsed on the sofa.

She felt her bones relax as she embraced the comfort of the sofa.

"You're back," she heard Tanya say.

"Yes," she replied, adjusting herself to face Tanya.

"I need a glass of water," she said in a strained tone.

"Oh, okay," Tanya said and quickly rushed to the kitchen.

Tanya came back with a bottle of water and a glass. She sat on one of the sofas and then poured the water into the glass before handing it to her.

She sat up before taking the glass from Tanya and then gulping it down.

"Easy," Tanya said, worried for her friend as she gulped down the water.

She dropped the glass on the table and let out a sigh of relief.

"I think you should go take your bath and then come downstairs for dinner."

She nodded in response and then went upstairs.

She switched on the lights as she entered her room and then went to her wardrobe to look for a nightgown before going to take her bath.

She felt refreshed as she stepped out of the bathroom, dried herself, and slipped into her nightgown.

She took her phone and her bag and made her way downstairs.

"Hey, you're back," Tanya said. "What's up with the bag?" Tanya asked, curious why her friend was still carrying her bag.

She excitedly sat on one of the sofas. "I got treats," she said, knowing how much Tanya loved food.

Tanya's eyes lit up. "Really?" she asked.

She nodded and then began to unpack her bag.

She started with the pastries, followed by the drinks, and then the food.

"Oh my gosh, this must be my lucky day," Tanya exclaimed before grabbing one of the pastries and stuffing it into her mouth.

"I think it's the opposite for me," she said while raising her now bulging bag with a sullen look on her face.

Putting the bag aside, she picked one of the pastries and took a bite.

"Oh, this tastes exquisite," she said as she began to stuff them into her mouth.

"These rich people really enjoy themselves," Tanya mumbled out loud as she had a mouth full of food.

"You should have seen the mansion," she began to tell her friend about her experience and encounter and everything that had happened and that she had gone through.

Tanya's facial expression kept changing as she spoke. Sometimes she would frown, and sometimes her eyes would widen in disbelief or surprise, and sometimes she would smile.

"Wow, that's interesting," Tanya finally spoke.

"How was work today?" she asked.

"Normal as usual," Tanya replied.

"Okay, um, I was thinking of canceling my day shift at McTreats tomorrow."

"Yes, absolutely," Tanya said. "You are four hundred bucks rich."

"It won't last forever."

"I know, but it can sustain you for a while."

"Yeah, plus I'm exhausted."

"Yeah!" Tanya screamed, making her laugh.

"And," Tanya began, "I'm off tomorrow, so we could chill."

Diamond laughed uncontrollably as Tanya did some kind of funny dance as she said the last sentence.

"Alright, alright, so I'm just gonna cancel it." She reached for her phone and canceled her work shift.

"So I'm officially free tomorrow!" she said as she now did the funny, weird dance with Tanya.

Within minutes they collapsed on the sofa, panting like they had just come back from a war.

"I think we should eat."

"Definitely, I agree with you," she said as she changed the TV to her favorite channel before picking up a plate of rice.

She and Tanya ate and drank till they were full and then decided to go to bed.

She switched off the TV before making her way up to her room.

She bade Tanya good night before going to her room and collapsing on her bed.

She smiled at the softness of her bed and snuggled against her medium-sized teddy.

She was happy to finally find comfort after a long day.

She mumbled some words of prayer before finally dozing off.
