Clarissa had already lost everything. I knew she understood that too. Her ae-device had become mine, Richard had gone to the capital, and everyone in this house now looked at her with nothing but disdain.
I thought she would at least learn to lower her head. Instead, she tried to run.
"Bring her back," Daddy ordered through the com-orb, his voice cold and absolute. "And make sure someone keeps an eye on her. I don't want her trying anything like this again."
"Daddy, just let her go," I said, letting a hint of displeasure slip into my expression. "Isn't it better if she's not here?"
"Not yet, darling. She's still useful."
I didn't know exactly how Daddy planned to turn Clarissa into a scapegoat. But as long as it benefited me, I could be patient.
Meanwhile, news of her escape attempt reached Luna and my brothers.
"Hasn't Clarissa been found yet? Why does she keep trying to run away?" Luna murmured, her voice trembling, tears already threatening to fall.
