Chapter 9 - 009: End Game

Zero sat at the corner watching the door closely. Becky had already picked up her teleportation stone. Zero stared at her.

His system had detected an ability. Voice Amplification and Copy. Then he heard the voice of Donel Brain asking them to get to the Assembly Hall. That was suspicious considering the fact that their time hadn't run out yet. They still had about five minutes before the exam ended.

"Wait. Don't use that yet," Zero said to Becky, who stared at him in shock.

"What the hell? Do you want a bad impression for yourself on the first day?! I personally do not want that for myself," Becky said sternly.

"Calm down. Think of it this way. Someone's ability is to copy voices he has heard. Probably someone copied Donel Brain's voice and wants us to have a self-elimination," Zero explained, but Becky had a different idea.

"Look. I understand what you are saying. Someone may have such an ability, but it's a low probability. What if it isn't the case? What if it's about the person you killed? I have a feeling that it is about that," Becky explained, and Zero just stared at her.

If Zero wanted to convince her otherwise, he had to drop solid points. For him, he was solidly sure of what he was proposing because his system had detected an ability. How was he going to convince her to wait?

"I understand that, but what stops him from waiting an extra five minutes before addressing the situation?" Zero explained.

Becky thought for a while and stared at him.

For all she knew, he had good senses. He had sensed the shadow user faster than anyone in the room, a feat only possible by a Level 5 and above, yet a Level 1 was able to pull it off.

She was beginning to think that his ability was to detect others' abilities. For that reason, she decided to stay with him.

"Okay. I'm counting on this one. You better be correct," she said and checked the time.

[00:02:34]

Good. Two more minutes.

Zero then relaxed his head against the wall.

Whoever it was that was using the ability had probably convinced a good number of the remaining teams to fail by getting to the open ground.

He was snapped out of his thoughts when someone opened the door and stepped in.

For a moment, everyone stared at each other.

A guy with silky red hair and a deeply muscular body walked in. Both Zero and Becky stared at him in shock. His expression was also shocking, as he hadn't expected anyone to still be in the room when he entered.

"Damn it," he cursed and looked at their watches to see their rank and HP. A slight relief washed over him.

Zero stared at him closely.

He had seen the face before, but he seemed to forget where. All he knew was that he had seen him before.

"Good thing you guys are here. Pretty hard to believe that you guys didn't fall for my ability," he said and grinned as he closed the door behind him.

Zero's eyes glanced at his watch to read his level and HP.

[Level 7]

[HP: 65/70]

Zero gulped lightly.

This guy was definitely strong. The both of them had no chance against him. He was out of their league.

The only consolation he had was that time had almost run out, leaving them with one minute.

"Hey, I don't sting. I'll just beat you two with the remaining time. My aim is to be the only survivor of this exam," he said and smiled.

Zero was visibly sweating. He wanted to avoid facing him at all costs. For all he knew, he could probably take them out with one hit. His HP wasn't large enough, and Becky wasn't in her full state either.

"Look, we want to avoid fighting as much as possible. We aren't in a good state to fight, but if you provoke our leader, you may end up dead."

Becky looked at Zero as he lied. He had come up with the lie to buy themselves enough time to escape this man devil.

"What the hell are you saying?" he said and quickly dashed to Zero in a split second.

His leg was pressed against Zero's neck.

"A Lamer speaking with such pride?"

"Huh? I just told you that there's a Level 8 in this room, but you haven't noticed? Seems like you are dumber than I thought initially," Zero said and noticed the time.

[00:00:56]

"I could kill you here. You know that?" he said calmly.

Becky dashed towards him with brute speed, but he caught her mid-air and smashed her against the ground.

Her HP reduced drastically to [5/50].

"Fuck! Why did you lay a hand on her?!" Zero muttered as he clenched his fists.

"What are you going to do? Lover boy?!" he said and laughed lightly.

Zero could feel his cells getting excited. A draining feeling washed upon him, and his smile turned into a deep grin.

His eyes went deep and hollow, and he let his rage take hold of him.

He grabbed onto the guy's head and slammed his knee against it with all his strength.

The impact sent the guy staggering backward.

"Kill him."

"Kill him."

"Kill him."

"Come on. My cells hate you. I need to beat the crap out of you first. Don't die yet," Zero said as he was completely engrossed in his excitement that he didn't notice the timer had run out.

He dashed forward, attempting to slam him against the neck like he had done to his previous opponent.

But in that instant, they all vanished out of the building and were suddenly standing on the podium.

Zero ended up slamming his fist against one of the officers who stood beside where he got teleported to.

Only then did he snap out of his excitement.

Before him were other students, probably those who had failed the exam. To his side was Becky. She was badly injured, so a medic held her up.

"What the hell?" he muttered to himself.

"As you can see, only five students cleared this exam," Donel Brain said in his loud voice.

Zero then noticed that the timer had run out.

He had survived.

A great relief filled his heart.
