Chapter 297: The Death of Hanzo
Three days later, Mist Village Guest House.
Masahiko sat cross-legged on a chair with a helpless expression.
On the bed not far away, the little boy Kimimaro was sleeping soundly.
"Although this child is easy to abduct, he lacks a bit of a sense of security. When we return to the Land of Whirlpools, I have to pick two companions for him so he can integrate. I can't stay with him all the time."
Perhaps because he had been locked up and lonely for too long, upon meeting a "God" like Masahiko this time, he refused to leave his side for even a moment. Who knows how Orochimaru handled it in the original story.
In short, for the past five days, Masahiko could only sleep on a chair.
"I can't possibly sleep hugging a little boy, can I? If it were a little loli... ahem, still no."
Masahiko scratched his head, stood up, and pushed open the room door.
It was another new day. Having stayed in the Mist Village for five days, the Mizukage inauguration ceremony had finally arrived.
"Mei Terumi becoming the Fifth Mizukage hasn't changed, but the timing is off; it's earlier. There should be quite a few Witness Points."
"But before that, there's one more thing." Masahiko directly knocked on the door of the room opposite his.
Two seconds later, the door was opened, revealing Kisame's dead-fish eyes.
"Shark-faced bro, have you made up your mind? I'm making an exception by inviting you."
Masahiko still hadn't changed his nickname for Kisame.
"The Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist exist in name only now, and your previous actions make it hard for the higher-ups to trust you. Become a member of the First Generation Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Land of Whirlpools!"
Kisame rolled his dead-fish eyes. He actually really wanted to agree, but he strongly resisted the nickname "Shark-faced bro." The thought of facing Masahiko all day in the Land of Whirlpools if he agreed made his future seem bleak.
"Senior, could you change the nickname?"
Masahiko was startled. "If you join the Land of Whirlpools, I can call you Samehada Shark Face? Samehada Bro?"
Kisame's bluish face turned even bluer. This was exactly why he kept hesitating.
"God." The little boy walked out, rubbing his sleepy eyes. "It's morning."
Masahiko ruffled his sleep-tousled hair. "It's morning. Get ready, we're going to watch the Fifth Mizukage's inauguration ceremony. I am their esteemed guest. After attending, I still have to send the Fourth Mizukage ascending to heaven..."
He heard that the one who ascended to heaven before still hadn't woken up from his coma.
...
Meanwhile, Land of Rain Battlefield.
Yahiko, Ameyuri Ringo, Obito, and Rin had quietly infiltrated the central area of the Land of Rain, Hanzo's residence.
They avoided the nearby patrol ninjas when they could. When they couldn't, Obito assassinated them using his Mangekyou Sharingan's Space Ninjutsu.
Obito had woken up ten days ago. During these days, besides recovering from his injuries, he also familiarized himself with his Mangekyou Sharingan's abilities.
Upon learning that Rin was saved by Yahiko, Obito was so grateful he could cry... Now he called him "Big Brother Yahiko" with every breath. After learning of Yahiko's ideal—to rid the world of war—his admiration reached its peak.
Furthermore, the previous battle had nearly cost Rin her life, making him hate war as well. Now following Yahiko, wanting to pacify the war in the Land of Rain, their first target was the aging demigod, Hanzo of the Salamander!
The infiltration went very smoothly. They were smoothly discovered and smoothly surrounded...
Hanzo stepped out from the crowd, his gaze sweeping over Yahiko and Ameyuri Ringo. "So it's you two. You managed to escape with your lives back then, yet now you proactively return to seek death?"
Ameyuri Ringo pointed her Lightning Swords at Hanzo. "I said we didn't need to infiltrate. This Uchiha brat is completely unreliable. We might as well have just charged in. Damn you, Hanzo! The slash you gave me back then still aches faintly even now!"
Facing Ameyuri Ringo's mockery, Obito surprisingly didn't talk back.
Perhaps because he had grown up following Masahiko, their ways of thinking were becoming similar. His impression of Ameyuri Ringo was: If only Hanzo's slash had been a bit heavier and knocked out all her teeth.
"Uchiha brat?" Hanzo's gaze focused on Obito. "Has Konoha also gotten involved? Troublesome..."
Yahiko spoke loudly, "Hanzo of the Salamander! Known as a demigod, not only have you failed to bring peace to the Land of Rain, but you have filled this country with pain. You are no longer fit to lead this scarred nation!"
"Naive brat," Hanzo spoke in a low voice. Sandwiched between great nations, the Land of Rain inevitably had to be filled with war.
"Summoning Jutsu!"
...
Land of Water, in front of the Mizukage Building.
Masahiko sat in his chair, drowsy. His sleep quality had been truly poor these past two days. Listening to the beautiful Mei Terumi's Mizukage declaration, he almost fell asleep.
Surrounding him were groups of Mist ninjas who occasionally cast murderous glances his way. While listening to the Mizukage's declaration, apart from Masahiko, everyone else was standing, including Hangetsu Hozuki.
It wasn't until a system prompt flashed by: "Witnessed and significantly changed the Naruto World side story: The Fifth Mizukage. Obtained 10(*5) Witness Points."
"Only fifty?" Masahiko instantly perked up and stood. "Fifty isn't bad either."
He rubbed the head of the little boy on his left, only to find the sleeve on his right side being tugged.
"Kimimaro? Why are you on this side?" Masahiko looked bewildered and turned around haltingly.
Please don't let it be Kisame. I might have to chop my hand off.
Turning around, Masahiko breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
"Senior, I am an adult. Stop rubbing my head!"
Masahiko smiled. "Yagura, go stand next to Kimimaro and say you're an adult again. Besides, in my eyes, what's the difference between adults and children? You're all children."
Yagura: "..."
Over these past few days in the Mist Village, Masahiko and Yagura had become acquainted. Unfortunately, the 'overage shota' was hard to abduct; his loyalty to the Mist Village was still very strong.
A few days ago, those small Kekkei Genkai clans had sent nearly half their combat forces to recruit (intercept) Yagura, only to be entirely killed by him in the end.
A perfect Three-Tails Jinchuriki with off-the-charts strength, he was able to fight evenly with Kushina in the previous war. If not for his somewhat unreliable personality, and the need to pacify the other Kekkei Genkai clans, the position of Fifth Mizukage should have been his.
Watching the Water Country ninjas gradually dispersing, Masahiko cast his gaze upon Hangetsu Hozuki. "It's time to send you ascending to heaven."
...
Central area of the Land of Rain, the battle neared its end.
Hanzo, leaning on his scythe, had reached a dead end.
He looked at the salamander, which seemed to have suffered some sort of tearing force, leaving only half its mangled body. Then he looked at Obito, who was sitting slumped on the ground, clutching an eye that was currently shedding tears of blood.
"Mangekyou Sharingan, spatial abilities?"
He suffered the disadvantage of lacking intelligence. If the salamander hadn't been instantly killed, even facing a four-on-one siege, he would have been confident in fighting and winning.
"Uchiha brat, I'll admit you did well." Ameyuri Ringo finally didn't stint on her praise as she approached Hanzo wielding her Lightning Swords.
Behind Hanzo, Yahiko had been waiting early on to prevent him from escaping.
Hanzo held his scythe with both hands and stood up straight.
"Do you think Hanzo of the Salamander will simply let himself be slaughtered just because he lost his salamander?"
In the final moments of his life, Hanzo didn't use ninjutsu again, but chose the combat style of a samurai.
Until... he died in battle!
