TW/CW: Violence against a "child"
The first thing Kenneth thought when he saw the so-called "survivors" was whether it was a trap.
Yes, it was probably a horrible thing to think about when seeing a group of terrified and injured people who were clearly in need of aid, but Kenneth was wise enough to know that deception came in more than one form.
It was never obvious, and it often played with one's emotions. Case in point, the A.I. he'd confused for a little boy.
So Kenneth approached them slowly and carefully, and he signalled for his team to do the same.
"Stay behind me. No sudden movements," he murmured.
The group didn't react immediately. Some of them shifted, others remained slumped where they were, heads lowered, bodies slack with what looked like exhaustion.
They were too still, too quiet.
Kenneth's gaze swept across them one by one, cataloguing details. Injuries. Posture. Breathing. Then his eyes stopped.
