Avoidance had never been a part of Lucien's life, especially as he was growing up. He'd been taught quite earlier on that putting things off or delaying the inevitable would always lead to an even worse outcome.
Of course avoiding risk was a natural part of the human condition. Why willingly walk into a sea of flames when you could take a longer more arduous route that would be free of fire and inferno, right?
However, that only applied to things that could cause you direct harm. Not everyday kind of things like choosing between left and right or going out or staying home because you wanted to avoid seeing someone you knew on a particular day. Or in his case, avoiding someone you might as well have confessed your undying love to and they may or may not have rejected you in the process. Obviously not directly, but still.
