Kenneth reached for him, their fingers intertwining together. The instant their skin touched, Kenneth felt it. A pulse, but it wasn't his own.
It travelled through their joined hands and up his arm, a strange sensation that was both familiar and foreign at the same time.
Kenneth closed his eyes, already knowing what he needed to do. He had anchored Lucien before after all.
Usually, there was a moment of resistance, the brief sensation of pushing against a locked door before the connection opened and allowed his energy through.
This time, there was no resistance. The door simply wasn't there. Kenneth's energy flowed into Lucien with startling ease, feeling the enormous pit that was his ability.
His breath caught as something warm unfurled inside his chest. At the same time, Lucien inhaled sharply beside him.
"Kenneth."
"I felt it."
The monitors around them began to beep.
Numbers flashed rapidly across the screens.
