Chapter 129 - Chapter 125: The Dawn

Chapter 125: The Dawn

Saturday, March 26, 2016

Michael entered the dressing room and collapsed onto the couch. His body was trembling, not from cold but from the rush of adrenaline finally leaving him. The tears were still fresh on his face, but he didn't bother wiping them.

He had done it.

The door opened and everyone came in at once: Karl, T-Roc, Amy, Leo, Sam, Nate, Big Rob, and a dozen people from the technical crew who had made the tour possible.

"MIKE!" Leo shouted, throwing himself at him in a hug that nearly knocked him off the couch. "That was INCREDIBLE!"

"I'm crying," Nate admitted, without shame. "I'm literally crying. I've never seen anything like that."

Sam said nothing, just nodded with an expression that said everything words couldn't.

Amy approached and gave him a softer, longer hug.

"I'm so proud of you," she whispered. "So, so proud."

Karl waited for everyone to have their moment, then approached with a bottle of champagne.

"Shall we toast?"

Michael looked at the bottle, then at the people surrounding him. His team. His friends. His chosen family.

"We shall."

The cork flew off and champagne spilled as everyone shouted and laughed. Michael took a sip, letting the bubbles tickle his nose.

"What are we toasting to?" T-Roc asked.

Michael raised his glass.

"To all of you. For believing in this when it was just a crazy idea. For putting up with me during a month of buses and hotels. For being here tonight."

"Cheers!" everyone shouted in unison.

Glasses clinked and Michael smiled. It was the kind of smile that hurt, because it came from a place so deep he had almost forgotten it existed.

---

While the celebration continued, Karl approached Michael with his tablet.

"I know it's not the time, but I thought you'd want to see this."

Michael took the tablet and looked at the screen. It was a complete tour summary:

Sunday, March 27, 2016

The celebration moved to a private club in West Hollywood that Karl had reserved for the occasion. It wasn't huge or ostentatious, just an intimate space with good music, open bar, and the people who had made everything possible.

Michael was sitting in a booth with Leo, Sam, and Nate, watching as the technical crew danced and drank like there was no tomorrow.

"Remember when we met you?" Sam asked, slightly drunk. "You appeared out of nowhere. Literally nowhere. We didn't even know your last name."

"You still don't," Michael said with a smile.

"That's true," Leo laughed. "What is your last name, Mike?"

"It's a mystery. Part of my brand."

"You're an idiot," Nate said, pushing him playfully.

"I'm an idiot with many millions of dollars."

"MANY MILLIONS?!" Leo shouted, almost spitting out his drink.

"Shhh," Michael said, laughing. "Don't broadcast it."

"Bro, how many is many?"

"Most of it is in investments. It's not like I have millions in cash under my mattress."

"Still," Sam said, shaking his head. "Four months ago you were sleeping on a couch."

Michael looked at his friends, these guys who had accepted him without questions when he appeared out of nowhere, who had believed in him before he had reasons to believe in himself.

"The money doesn't change anything between us," he said, suddenly serious. "You understand that? You guys are my brothers. That's priceless."

Leo raised his glass. "To being brothers."

"To being brothers," everyone repeated.

Glasses clinked once more.

Michael had slept barely four hours, but the call with Harris couldn't wait. He sat in front of his laptop with a coffee in hand while his financial advisor's face appeared on screen.

"Congratulations on the show," Harris said. "I saw the clips. Impressive."

"Thanks. How are we doing?"

Harris shared his screen, showing a detailed document:

FINANCIAL STATUS - MICHAEL "DEMIURGE"

March 27, 2016

LIQUID ASSETS:

- US checking account: $187,000

- US savings account: $340,000

- Pending tour income: $623,000

INVESTMENTS:

- Ethereum: 437,500 ETH @ $14.20 = $6,390,000

- Dubai structure (in progress): $0 transferred yet

PROJECTED ROYALTIES (next 12 months):

- Streaming: $890,000 - $1,200,000

- YouTube: $340,000 - $450,000

- Sync/licensing: $120,000 - $200,000

ESTIMATED NET WORTH: $8,120,000

"Eight million," Michael said. "In less than a year."

"And growing," Harris confirmed. "But we need to talk about Dubai. The structure is ready. We can start transferring funds whenever you want."

"How does it work exactly?"

Harris switched to another slide.

"We created a holding company in Dubai that owns the rights to your music outside the United States. International income goes directly to that entity, where the tax rate is effectively zero. For US income, we use a Delaware structure that legally minimizes the tax burden."

"Is it all legal?"

"Completely. It's exactly what major corporations and established artists do. You're just doing it before most even think about it."

Michael nodded. "Proceed. Transfer the first $500,000 as planned. If everything works, we move more."

"Understood. Anything else?"

"Yes. I need your opinion on something. Interscope wants to sign me."

---

Harris frowned when he heard about Interscope.

"What terms are they offering?"

"Distribution deal, not traditional artist. 70-30 in my favor. Three albums or five years."

"Sounds generous for the industry," Harris admitted. "But let me ask you something: why do you need it?"

Michael sat thinking.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean you already have complete digital distribution through DistroKid. You have millions of followers who will listen to anything you release. You have the money to fund your own promotion. What does Interscope give you that you can't get yourself?"

"Radio promotion. Physical distribution. Industry connections."

"Radio is dying. Physical distribution is irrelevant for your demographic. And the connections..." Harris paused. "The connections that matter you already have. Rolling Stone interviewed you. Billboard covers you. Complex loves you. You don't need a label for that."

Michael considered the words.

"But 70-30 means I lose 30% of everything I earn with them."

"Exactly. In a five-year contract, if you keep growing at the current rate, that 30% could be millions of dollars. Millions that would go to Interscope for... what exactly?"

"For the prestige of being signed to a major label."

"And how much is that prestige worth to you?"

Michael was silent for a long moment.

"Nothing," he finally said. "It's worth nothing. My music is mine. My audience is mine. Why would I give a percentage of that to someone else?"

Harris smiled. "That's the right answer. Keep 100% of your music. In this era, independent artists have more power than ever. Use it."

"I'm going to turn down Interscope."

"It's the smart decision. But do it gracefully. Don't burn bridges. Tell them you appreciate the offer but prefer to maintain your independence for now. Leave the door open for the future."

"Understood."

---

After the call with Harris, Michael met Amy at a café in Santa Monica. He needed to talk to someone who didn't see everything in terms of numbers and contracts.

"I turned down Interscope," he told her.

Amy raised her eyebrows. "Really? I thought it was a great opportunity."

"It was. But I don't need it. I have everything I need to do this on my own. Why would I give a percentage of my work to someone else?"

"Because sometimes institutional support is worth something. The experience. The connections."

"Maybe. But I feel like the moment I sign with someone, I lose something. Control. Freedom. The ability to do exactly what I want."

Amy studied him for a moment.

"You know what impresses me most about you, Michael?"

"What?"

"That you always seem to know exactly what you want. From the first day I met you, you had this... clarity. Like you could see the path that others can't see."

Michael felt the weight of his secret pressing against his chest.

"Amy, there's something I should—"

"No," she interrupted. "You don't have to explain anything. Whatever it is that makes you different, I don't need to know. I just need to know that you're a good person. And you are."

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because I saw how you treat people. Your fans. Your friends. Your team. Money and fame haven't changed you. That tells me everything I need to know."

Michael felt a lump in his throat.

"Thank you, Amy. For everything."

"That's what friends are for."

---

Back in his apartment, Michael sat in front of his laptop and opened the System interface. It was time to take a complete inventory of where he stood.

Michael closed the laptop and leaned back in his chair.

The inventory was impressive. In less than a year he had built a musical empire, accumulated a fortune, and connected with millions of people.

But the numbers only told part of the story.

The other part was harder to quantify: the lives he had touched, the people he had met, the moments of real connection that no system could measure.

'This is just the beginning', he thought. 'The album comes next. Then another tour. Bigger. More shows. More cities.'

'And eventually, Runaway.'

The prophecy he still didn't fully understand, but knew he would someday have to face.

---

Monday, March 28, 2016

Michael sat on the roof of his building, watching the sunrise over Los Angeles. He hadn't slept, but he wasn't tired. He was... at peace.

He pulled out his phone and opened the notes app. He wrote:

"March 28, 2016.

The tour ended. The arc closes.

SUMMARY:

- 17 shows, 38,450 people

- From Phoenix (1,500) to Los Angeles (6,000)

- $623,000 in net revenue

- 89 million new streams

- 15.8 million Influence Points

- $8.6 million total net worth

DECISIONS MADE:

- Turned down Interscope. 100% independent.

- Dubai structure in progress.

- The album is coming soon.

LESSONS LEARNED:

Vulnerability connects more than perfection. My voice has physical limits I must respect. Music really does save lives. Money is a tool, not a goal. True friends are more valuable than any contract.

WHAT'S NEXT:

- Finish pending songs

- Produce debut album

- Decide what to do with 'I spoke to the devil'

- Keep building the empire

Amy asked where I come from. I couldn't tell her the truth. Maybe someday. Maybe never.

What I know is this:

Whatever the reason I'm here, I'm grateful. For the music. For the people. For the opportunity to do something that matters.

The System gave me the tools. But what I built with them is mine.

The songs may come from another place. But the connection is real. The love is real. The purpose is real.

And that's enough.

For now, it's enough."

He saved the note and set the phone aside.

The sun rose slowly, bathing Los Angeles in golden light. Somewhere in the city, thousands of people were waking up with their voices still hoarse from singing. Somewhere, someone was hearing his songs for the first time and feeling something they couldn't explain.

Michael breathed deep and smiled.

The tour was over.

But he was just getting started.
