Chapter 92 - Chapter Ninety-Two: The Post-War Trial of Gondry

The celebration on Naboo had concluded, and everyone was returning to their home planets.

"Commander, this is the loss report for this mission," Jon Krell said, handing the loss list to Kote.

Loss List:

vagary frigates: 10

hercules-class transport ship: 35

wraith fighters: 62

viking fighters: 83

Ground Troops:

Mandalorians: 33 dead, 231 injured

Kaili people: 132 dead, 576 injured

hurricanes: 7

goliath robots: 13

Looking at the losses, Kote felt it was acceptable. As the first stop for military training, this was manageable.

"It's acceptable. Make sure all compensation for the fallen warriors is paid out. That's the most important thing," Kote told Krell beside him.

"Absolutely, for Mandalore!" Krell responded.

At this moment, Satine sent a message to Kote, who was preparing to return to Mandalore. The message stated that the Republic's internal trial of Governor Gunray and the Trade Federation had begun, asking if Kote would go or if she should.

Kote looked at the message from his Cousin and pondered for a moment. "Tell my Cousin I'll go," Kote instructed the communications officer.

Soon, the Mandalorian fleet, which had refueled and resupplied on Naboo, returned to Vadir. All personnel who participated in the battle were granted a week of leave.

Kote took Qui-Gon to the Mandalorian Holy Land within the mines.

Seeing the underground Holy Land, Qui-Gon was surprised. The Jedi archives had no record of any Force-sensitive organization on Mandalore.

"This is the Holy Land of Mandalorian Force-sensitives from a thousand years ago, but it was destroyed by the Sith. To avenge these ancestors, I must also destroy the Sith," Kote told the still curious Qui-Gon.

"I can't imagine. Besides Tar vizsla, Mandalorians had Force-sensitives, and even an organization," Qui-Gon exclaimed, looking at the unfamiliar Holy Land.

At this moment, Zeta and Nehaal walked in and suddenly spotted Qui-Gon, quickly hiding.

Qui-Gon had long sensed their presence and smiled. "Come out, we are allies now."

Hearing this, Zeta cautiously shook his head at Nehaal, but Kote directly pulled them out. "Alright, Great Master Qui-Gon will be your future teacher. After all, Great Master Qui-Gon was the one who taught me about The Force."

At this point, Qui-Gon also nodded. He had many years of teaching experience, albeit in the Jedi way.

"Alright."

"Great Master Qui-Gon is a good teacher. You must listen to him. I'll be back after I return from Coruscant." Kote arranged their future training and explained the tenets of Mandalorian Force users to Great Master Qui-Gon. Qui-Gon stated that he would definitely respect the Mandalorian tenets and would learn more about Mandalorian knowledge.

"These two children are in your care, Great Master Qui-Gon," Kote said sincerely, then left the Holy Land and first headed to the Zanbar System.

Inside the Zanbar System, numerous Divine Rank and hercules-class transport ship were transporting Clones. On Zanbar, as the headquarters of the New Death Watch, more barracks were being constructed to accommodate the one million Clones for training and residence.

As the current administrators of Zanbar, Krell and Pre Vizsla were making various plans, truly militarizing the Clone army and the Death Watch.

Kote understood the current situation. The one million Clones had already been transported, at least all of them had been evacuated from Kamino, along with the people Mandalore had previously sent, all returning to Zanbar.

Seeing that the progress was normal, Kote sent someone to Coruscant. It was time to demand compensation from the Trade Federation.

On Coruscant, the first trial of Governor Gunray and others from the Trade Federation involved in the invasion was underway.

However, Governor Gunray and the others in the defendant's dock remained silent because they had already started bribing the Judicial Department, attempting to make their charges disappear or even be acquitted. They had also hired well-known lawyers on Coruscant for their defense.

"Everything I have will be spoken by my lawyer. All questions should be directed to my lawyer," Governor Gunray said, then closed his eyes and no longer looked at the crowd. After all, he received summons from the Judicial Department every year, but this was the first time for something so serious.

Queen Amidala angrily looked at the silent Governor Gunray, accusing him of his crimes, but the bribed judge continuously favored Governor Gunray.

With the Mandalorian representative being a spider, he could not make more decisions and could only speak on behalf of Queen Amidala. The specific details were unclear.

Thus, the first trial ended very hastily, without even fully convicting Governor Gunray.

Finally, before the second trial, Kote arrived on Coruscant. He immediately rushed to the courthouse, as today was also the date of the second trial.

In the courthouse, Governor Gunray noticed that the Mandalorian representative had been replaced by Kote. He silently thought that this was it; he would definitely have to pay a price.

"Governor Gunray, let's discuss compensation for Mandalore and Naboo. I saw the last record that said your lawyer would represent you fully. If you still want the Trade Federation to survive long in the Outer Rim, you'd better start speaking and admit your crimes," Kote threatened Governor Gunray in court. After all, this was how one dealt with people like Governor Gunray.

Governor Gunray could not ignore Kote's words at all. "Alright, Governor Kote, as long-time friends, we even cooperate in the Outer Rim. Are you going to get involved in such a small matter?"

"You are mistaken, Governor Gunray. Invading a sovereign planet without the Council's full permission, and even attacking the Free Mandalore army hired by Mandalore, all these crimes require you to pay a price. Otherwise, the Galactic Constitution would be a joke," Kote's meaning was for him to quickly compensate Naboo and Mandalore, as the judge here couldn't convict him anyway.

Listening to Kote, Governor Gunray understood that it was about paying money. After all, to whom he paid didn't matter.

Queen Amidala was still a bit confused by their conversation. So, Governor Gunray started talking like this? And compensation was about to begin? Wasn't the lawyer supposed to represent him fully? Was Governor Kote that effective?!

Kote whispered to Padmé, "Demand heavily from Governor Gunray. He has plenty of money. The money he bribed with is even more than this. The law cannot sanction him. This won't work in the Republic. Only strong power can threaten him; otherwise, your words are empty in front of him."

Padmé nodded. She hadn't expected the Republic to be so corrupt. Even the highest court in the entire Galaxy couldn't try Governor Gunray. They had to rely on other external forces to threaten him to achieve their conditions. She hoped things would improve after Speaker Palpatine took office.

So, under the judge's gaze, the two parties began negotiations, eventually settling for a price of 20 billion credits, which served as a harsh lesson for Governor Gunray. However, he couldn't take revenge on Kote. Kote's reputation had also greatly increased within the Republic, and in the Outer Rim, he was even considered a leader who brought prosperity to the people of the Outer Rim, a complete opposite to his own position.

But he heard that a group of senators wanted to investigate Mandalore. Perhaps he could use this to his advantage.
