Seeing her brother had finally arrived, Evelyn felt relieved. The hard days were coming to an end. But Damian's reaction made her hesitate to approach him.
She answered with wary eyes, "The maid quit. I don't know why. I've been taking care of everything myself these past few days."
Damian stepped closer, though he still kept his distance from her.
"I'll hire another maid. Just stay in your room for now. We'll talk after the maid arrives."
He had actually wanted to congratulate and praise his sister. But in her current state, he simply couldn't bring himself to do it.
He quickly went to handle the maid situation.
Afterward, he entered his study to read Xaviar's letter. Judging by the date, it had been sent a week ago, right after the banquet.
"So this was after their engagement announcement…" Damian muttered with a wide smile as he opened the letter.
He began reading the familiar handwriting. Paragraph after paragraph, his smile slowly turned into fury.
