Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: The Dead Still Serve

Brittany made her way downstairs where she was met with Lara who was momentarily stunned to see her and Andrew who had his usual apathetic mask for a face. "So do you have my answers prepared Andrew because if you don't, I don't care what I have to do to make you talk but best believe what you did to me will be seen as mercy."

Her words grating the silence that was present. "I don't have your answers Brittany but you're welcome to dinner. Should you want to leave the car keys are here." His eyes landing on the car keys placed on the kitchen counter. Brittany pursed her lips, a million insults surging in her mind but she stopped herself. "It's clear that I may have overstepped back then but did you have to push me like that?! You nearly killed me Andrew!"

Lara who had expected a greater lash out of Brittany was puzzled with how she easily calmed down. 'Looks like these two have some form of relationship. But how is she so calm in such a situation where she nearly drowned?' She couldn't understand Brittany who instead of taking the keys like she had thought instead made he way to the table and joined them with their dinner.

"It was required to make you recall that you're not invincible Brittany." Brittany let out a sigh, her hand covering her face. "Could you make a promise with me Andrew? If I go out of line, just be honest and say it to me rather than treat me like a slave or a toy you watch break!" Andrew focused on his meal before setting his focus on Lara. "Let's go, the time should be right for us."

Lara didn't bother finishing her meal as she rose and prepared to leave with Brittany. "Where the fuck are you two going ? I still need answers!" Her face baffled as she had just settled down. "For some fresh air." He replied before Brittany shortly after heard them leave. She looked at the keys, ready to leave the mansion before her eyes landed on a note.

"There should be some blood ready for you in your room." The cursive handwriting proof that it was Andrew. "Hah! Is it going to be like this with him?" A murmur only audible to her as thought of leaving began to evaporate as she made her way into her room. 'A full bathtub of his blood. I guess it doesn't hurt to indulge from time to time.' A smile forming on her face as her clothes unceremoniously fell to the floor.

. . .

The two drove this time drove to a cemetery which made Lara's scalp tingle. "Why are we here?" Her question cutting in through the silence. "There's a weave that we need for you. Though later on another will be needed to add to your weave but for now should do the job." Andrew made his way to the back of the SUV and produced a shovel and a flashlight. Lara could only watch as Andrew shuffled though the graves, as if already sure of what he was looking for before coming to a stop. "Could you hold this for me?"

Lara grabbed the flashlight, still unnerved with what Andrew was planning. "Don't tell me that you are planning on digging up a casket Andrew!? it's highly disrespectful to the dead!" Her words however were met with silence as Andrew began to dig , sending piles of dirt to the side before reaching what he was looking for. With his bare hands he opened the lid revealing a corpse that had began to rot but bits of flesh were still visible.

"ARGH!!" Lara backed up, unable to bear the sight or the smell while Andrew did what he had come to do. He placed his index and middle finger on the man's forehead and invisible to Lara pulled out a threat like string, similar to the same ones above the three doors. However this time this one was at it's core red with a golden touch to it. Without warning he shot the thread at Lara who fell to the earthy ground before rolling into the hole. Andrew managed to catch her before the two left the hole and she was taken back to the car.

Andrew went back to the hole and covered it back up, his gaze momentarily landing on the other graves before getting in the car and driving back to the mansion.

. . .

"So are you going to tell me what we were doing at the cemetery?" Lara asked the day after, her face enraged while Brittany was shocked. "Cemetery? What were you two doing there? Don't tell me that your hobby is grave robbing Andrew?" Her face mixed between amusement and suspicion. The three of them were outside in the garden.

"I'm sure that the two of you have questions and unfortunately, I can't tell everything to you right now as I'm not allowed but for your question Lara, try to aim your silk at that tree." Lara let out a helpless sigh as Brittany watched to the side. "You suck when it comes to explaining matters, you do know that right?" Lara groaned as she aimed her hand at the supposed tree. Nothing happened resulting with her shooting a sarcastic look at Andrew. "Is this some kind of joke Andrew?"

Lara asked as Andrew who aimed his hand at the supposed tree. "No, you should be able to do something like this." From his hand a thread of silk shot out and chipped the trunk of the American Holly tree before the silk shot back to his hand. The two were left speechless as Lara looked at her own hand. She focused and after some time managed to shoot silk but not in the direction she wished as the silk fell to the ground not far from where she was.

"What do I get since Lara has silk?" Brittany inquired with her smile, as if she wasn't addressing the same person who had kept her and fed her hearts. "You are more of a different case than Lara but if you want to pass out then you could shoot your blood." Andrew pointed at the tree once more and a dart like projectile shot and cut the other side of the tree making the American Holly to fall. Brittany tried however she had less success than Lara as nothing left her palms.

"However unlike Lara who needs my blood periodically, you'll need my blood constantly to prevent you from going rogue and attacking Lara." Brittany was stunned with the piece of information before a wry smile formed on her lips. "Oh come on, I'm sure that you wouldn't mind if I killed her, right? After all I'm sure that with her moral conscious, she'll be more of a hindrance than actual help." Lara flashed a frown now looking at Brittany. 'I'm starting to see why he locked you up if this is how you are,'

She commented in her mind before turning her focus back to her hands. "Hah!" She shouted, trying to get the result she wanted but every time her silk would pool beneath her than shoot forward. "No need to stress yourself Lara. It's understandable that you don't get it on your first try." Brittany however showed a frown seeing Andrew ignore her. "You didn't quite answer my question Andrew! Would you stop me or at the very least reprimand me if I killed Lara?" Her figure now on his back in piggy back.

"That would depend on Lara. If she wants to live or to meet her family." His response eliciting a hum out of Brittany. "So I just have to make her suicidal is all." Andrew's nod widening the smile on Brittany. "Ah, and here thought that you would throw another fit like what you had me endure." Lara however wasn't happy realizing how close to death she actually was. "However should you touch her then consider what I did to you earlier nothing more than a warm up."

Still Lara,s mood didn't rise as the three headed back inside. The news rambled about the eye and the adverse changes it seem to had on people. It talked about the crash of value of gold and other minerals given that people could now make their own from their bodies. Before Brittany could turn it off, the news talked off wishing people to help others in pain. "A lot of pharmaceutical companies must be making a lot of money right now with pain killers! It's a shame that we have you though." Brittany said with her lips fresh with Andrew's blood.

"i thought that you would have left and checked up on your father by now." Andrew's words making Brittany realize the state her father could have been. "You didn't actually kill him, right? Sure he tried to kill you but he's my dad." Andrew got Brittany off his back, handing her the car keys. "He's fine." Brittany looked at the keys before bidding the two goodbye. "I'll come back later for your blood but I have to check up on my dad."

Her face a small smile before driving the SUV Andrew had gotten from Lara's place. The silence settled between the two before Lara breached it with a question. "When you said that Brittany could kill me should I lack the will to live, you were joking, right?" Andrew turned to face her. "No, if you have no reason to live and wish to die then my promise with you is considered null." His back what Lara saw as he headed back inside.

. . .

Callahan was trying to have Andrew's phone tracked but nothing came up. He went to where he was living with Clara only to find the house empty. For the past five days, he had been expecting a call from Andrew asking for ransom or a negotiation but nothing but pure darkness till a servant came to his office. "Sir, Miss Brittany is back." He found it preposterous for Andrew to let Brittany simply come back but when he made his way down, Brittany was waiting for her.

"Brittany, I thought that I lost you!" His hands wrapping around Brittany's figure before his focus landed on the car she had driven. "Where did you get that car?" His tone dropping wiping the joy he had when reuniting with her daughter. "That was the car Andrew gave me to drive here. " Callahan adjusted his glasses, as if unsure of what he was seeing was true but the SUV remained parked in his grounds.

"I…have to tell you something in my office."

. . .

"You what?" Brittany asked, her smile replaced with a frown. "Yes, I had Lara kidnapped with the goal of stressing Andrew during the operation but given he didn't bat an eye, I put Lara to the side. What bothers me is how he knew where Lara was." Brittany was at a loss for words to say to her father. 'Should I call it karma since I was kidnapped or what? Still, I can't believe that he would hide something like this from me.'

She mused in her mind as she read her father's reactions. "You should be happy that I'm fine. As for Andrew, given what we've seen him do, should it be a surprise that he didn't know?" Callahan let out a hum, his hand supporting his chin. "I guess but I was so secretive about it. It would seem that he has his own means as well." Brittany glanced to the side. 'Should I tell him that Andrew overheard us about a conversation? Given so far his reaction, it would sound too outrageous to him as it is.'

Callahan flashed a reassuring smile aimed at Brittany. "All I'm glad is that you're okay sweetie. Though I do have to ask, I hope that he wasn't rough with you when he kept you. You're his girlfriend so I'm sure that he was gentle with you." His words nearly sent Brittany laughing. 'Gentle? He fed me hearts for crying out loud and drowned me in his blood.' Still, she let out a small smile. "He was loving as always dad."
