Chapter 41 - Spider Bite!

The spider inside was beautiful. Red and blue coloring. Sleek body. Radioactive markers made it shimmer faintly under UV light.

"This is it," Peter said aloud. "Controlled transformation. On my terms. With full medical monitoring and temporal acceleration allowing me to adapt over subjective weeks while only seconds pass in real time."

He placed the tube on the medical table. Opened it carefully. The spider crawled out. Moved across the sterile surface. Mandibles flexed.

Peter extended his hand. Steady. No fear. Just focused determination.

"FSIS, begin full monitoring. Record everything. Every cellular change. Every genetic modification. I want complete data."

"All systems active. Vitals being tracked. Genetic analysis running in real-time. Preparing for integration event."

The spider crawled onto Peter's hand. Its legs were delicate. Precise. It moved up his wrist. Stopped at the inside of his forearm.

Perfect spot. Close to major blood vessels. The venom would spread quickly.

The spider's mandibles extended.

Bite.

Pain. Sharp and immediate. Like two hot needles piercing his skin. Venom injected directly into his bloodstream through perfectly designed delivery system.

Peter's enhanced Mind stayed focused despite the pain. Analyzing. Recording sensations with perfect clarity. This was data. Information. Understanding.

"Venom detected in bloodstream," FSIS reported clinically. "Radioactive genetic markers confirmed. Dispersing through circulatory system. Reaching cellular level. Your cells are responding."

Peter felt his heartbeat accelerate. Blood pressure spiked. His body recognized foreign material. Started mounting an immune response.

But then something changed.

His cells didn't reject the spider DNA. They analyzed it. Broke it down. Took useful components. His adaptive mutation activated.

"Integration process beginning," FSIS said. "Your genetics are accepting the foreign DNA. Not just accepting it. Optimizing it. Refining the enhancement beyond original design parameters."

Peter's vision blurred. The room spun. He staggered and fell to one knee. His muscles spasmed. Every nerve ending screamed.

But he didn't panic. This was expected. Calculated. His body was rewriting itself at the cellular level.

"Heart rate elevated to 180 beats per minute. Blood pressure 160 over 95. Core temperature rising to 39.5 Celsius. This is within expected parameters for genetic transformation."

Peter collapsed completely. Lay on the medical facility floor. Convulsions ran through his body. His back arched. Muscles contracted and released in rapid succession.

"Integration speed exceeding projections," FSIS continued. "Your genetics are not just accepting the spider DNA. They're incorporating it into your base genetic structure. Making it permanent. Making it inheritable."

Peter's skin felt like it was on fire. His bones ached. His muscles tore and reformed. Stronger. Denser. More capable.

"Structural changes detected. Muscle fiber density increasing by factor of 3.2. Bone density increasing by factor of 2.1. Neural processing speed increasing by factor of 4.7. Sensory organs restructuring."

Hours passed in the dimensional space. Peter remained on the floor. Transforming. His body systematically upgrading itself.

"Adhesive proteins forming in hands and feet. Precognitive sensory network establishing in cerebral cortex. Enhanced vision receptors developing in retinal structure."

Peter's breathing stabilized. The pain began to fade. His body finished the primary changes. Entered consolidation phase.

"Integration successful," FSIS announced. "Genetic enhancement stable. No rejection detected. Your adaptive mutation has fully accepted and optimized the spider DNA."

Peter opened his eyes. The ceiling came into sharp focus. Details he'd never noticed before. Tiny imperfections. Microscopic variations in the paint.

He sat up slowly. His body felt different. Stronger. More alive. Energy hummed through his muscles.

He looked at his hands. They appeared normal. But when he concentrated, tiny barbed hairs emerged from his fingertips. Microscopic. Thousands of them. Each one capable of creating molecular adhesion.

Peter placed his palm against the wall. Concentrated. Felt the adhesion activate.

He pulled his hand away. The wall came with it. Not damaged. Just connected. Like his hand had become part of the structure.

He released the adhesion. His hand came free cleanly.

"Wall-crawling functional," FSIS confirmed. "Adhesive proteins operating at 127% of projected efficiency."

Peter stood. Felt his balance shift. His body automatically adjusted. Perfect equilibrium. His proprioception had increased dramatically.

"Run full diagnostics," Peter said. "I want complete status."

Data flooded his vision. FSIS displayed everything.

[Transformation Complete]

[Integration: Successful]

[Enhancement: Stable]

[Updated Status:

Physique: 10.0 → 27.3

Mind: 12.1 → 14.8 (processing speed increased)

Spirit: 8.2 → 11.4 (sensory awareness increased)]

[New Capabilities:

- Enhanced Strength: 25x human baseline (can lift approximately 15 tons)

- Wall-Crawling: Molecular adhesion to any surface

- Spider-Sense: Precognitive danger awareness (1.8 second warning)

- Enhanced Agility: Reflexes 40x human baseline

- Enhanced Durability: Can withstand impacts up to 5 tons of force

- Enhanced Speed: Sprint speed up to 120 mph

- Enhanced Healing: Recovery rate 5x normal human]

Peter absorbed the information. He'd done it. Transformed. Become something beyond human.

But he was still himself. Still in control. His Mind hadn't changed. His personality remained intact. Only his body had evolved.

"How long has passed?" Peter asked.

"You've been in dimensional space for twelve subjective hours. The transformation required significant time for complete integration."

Peter nodded. He had more subjective time. Might as well use it.
