Chapter 58 - Kobold Hunting (3)

'This Jakar is not just a beast looking for its food, but it's actually a hunter just like me!'

Red thought to himself as he watched the beast slowly killing the third kobold instead of ripping the neck apart like the previous one.

'This is my chance!'

He stood up and pulled the spear from his back. He made sure not to make noise to avoid alerting the beast. After watching the Jakar hunting, his confidence to fight the beast one-on-one wavered. It was five levels higher than him, and it was smart.

Of course, he still had his hidden card, the fireball skill, if he ended up fighting it. However, he preferred to hunt the Jakar instead of fighting it.

He threw the spear as it made a whistling noise that alerted the beast. It looked up toward the noise, but it was too late. The spear pierced through its body. The spear impaled the body and dragged the Jakar a few steps away from the dying kobold.

Red initially aimed at the head, but he was concerned that the Jakar might be able to react and dodge the spear. It only required minimum movement to dodge with its head, after all. He made the right gamble because it reacted to his spear.

He threw the second spear and landed next to the first spear, pushing the Jakar to the root. It leaned against the root to support itself.

At this moment, Red jumped off the tree and landed with a spear in his head. He made his run and the third spear. This time, he aimed for the head, to kill the Jakar with the third spear.

With two spears on its body, its movement was sluggish as blood poured down from its body. It got weaker and should not be able to react. At least, Red thought so until the Jakar dropped its weak body.

It was doing its best to stand on its feet, but the moment the spear came to its head. It dropped down, and the spear pierced the root above its head.

Then it tried to leap forward, managed to make a small jump, but the two spears on its body caused it to lose balance. It managed to land on four, but losing its balance, it was swaying left and right, trying to regain its balance.

The other goblins might think the Jakar was too cowardly to run, but not him. It was a smart decision to run instead of fighting him in that condition. It proved that this one was different from the other beasts.

Beasts got more desperate when they were cornered. They would fight even more fiercely for their life. The Dire Wolf King proved it. It decided to keep fighting with everything it had, even though it was losing.

Red usually would get closer and use his blade when his prey was weakened like this. But not this time, as he pulled out his slingshot. He chose the smooth metal ball and aimed at the Jakar.

He kept a safe distance and released his slingshot, aiming for the Jakar's left hind leg. The Jakar heard the noise and turned its head for a moment.

At that moment, the metal ball hit its left hind leg. The leg bent forward as it fell forward. It squeaked in pain and tried to get back, but was struggling.

Red took no risk as he released the second shot. It hit Jakar's side of the head, causing it to tumble to the side. That was when he put the slingshot on his waist and pulled his blade. He rushed and finished the Jakar with a clean thrust to the neck.

His blade went through the neck and pierced through the ground. He thought it would be enough to kill it right away, but the Jakar was still struggling to break free. Its legs were thrashing around as it started to show its beastly instinct. Alas, it was just a futile attempt as its neck was completely stuck to the ground with the blade.

He thought of pulling the third spear from his back to finish it off. But the struggle was weakening, so he decided to wait as it slowly died.

He didn't pull his blade even though the Jakar completely stopped moving. The beast was smart enough that it might fake its death. He waited for another thirty breaths, and even then, he didn't pull the blade.

Red released his grip on the blade as he looked for his metal ball and pulled the kobold closer to Jakar's dead body. After confirming the beast was not faking its death, he pulled the blade and cleaned it with the leaves. He learned how important it is to properly maintain his weapon.

His eyes locked on the three kobolds. He thought of exchanging them all for loot, but it might not be bad to bring one of the kobolds back to the village. He could use the kobold as a trophy to gain support from the warrior and hunters, as well as the Matron.

Especially from the Matron, who seemed to hate the kobolds to the core. He could gain their support if he presented the kobold to them, consolidating his footing in the tribe.

He looked up, looking for the gap between the thick leaves to check the time. The orange-red glow pierced through the small gap. That was a good indication that it was about time to go back. It meant the kobold hunting was over for the day. With that in mind, Red put aside one level 8 kobold as he exchanged loot for the remaining two kobolds and Jakar.

The three dead bodies turned into light particles and revealed his loot. The level 8 kobold gave him two cores, and both were Might Cores and ten copper coins.

The level 10 kobold gave him three cores, two Magic Cores and one Might Cores, plus twenty-five copper coins. The main loot, Jakar, gave him five cores: three Magic Cores and two Might Cores plus fifty copper coins.

Red wasted no time as he absorbed the cores right away. There was no point saving them up unless he maxed out.
