Chapter 78 - Ophis Wants Silence [78]

Facing the incoming giant snakes, Altera slightly adjusted her position midair using minimal mana burst, then swung out the tri-colored sword in her hands.

The sword blade extended, transforming into a whip-like shape that rapidly danced about. Under Altera's precise control, it repelled all the snakes with ease.

"Hmph…"

The serpent-woman snorted disdainfully. The giant snakes opened their mouths wide, gathering purple toxic mist, poised to spew it toward Altera.

Even with mana bursts, Altera couldn't truly fly. Her agility in midair was naturally inferior compared to fighting on solid ground. If the serpent-woman succeeded, even if Altera wouldn't suffer serious injuries, she'd definitely be thrown off balance, exposing critical openings.

Yet Altera showed no signs of worry.

In life, she'd always charged ahead alone, fighting single-handedly. Before that, she'd never even had companions worthy of trust…

But now, she was no longer alone!

Atop the Northern Wall, a streak of blue light appeared suddenly. Immediately after, a blazing arrow brimming with immense magical energy shot forth like a missile, directly striking the serpent-woman's face.

Boom───!

Blue flames erupted, engulfing the serpent-woman's entire upper body and cutting off the snakes' toxic breath. Altera seized the opportunity to swiftly land on her feet, steadied by the aftershock.

On the wall, Arjuna readied his bow again, the blue arrow of light reappearing upon his bowstring.

Against an enemy of this level, dispersed volleys were meaningless. He needed concentrated force, aiming solely for an absolute kill.

Thus, while covering his comrades, he patiently awaited the right moment.

This was the Archer's proper duty. Those fools charging forward swinging twin swords were heretics!

"Aaaaagh, I'll devour you all!!"

With a furious shriek, the serpent-woman blasted away the flames with a surge of magical energy. Simultaneously, six snakes spat out corrosive venom, all targeting Altera—the closest threat.

At this very instant, a holy figure dashed forth, positioning herself in front of Altera. Jeanne unfurled her sacred banner, swinging it forward decisively.

A divine golden light burst forth from the banner, completely neutralizing the venom on contact, leaving no traces of toxicity behind.

Though the serpent-woman seemed enraged beyond reason, a closer look at her eyes would reveal remnants of clarity.

She knew perfectly well that the most troublesome opponent here was this saint.

Jeanne's Magic Resistance was absurdly high—practically comparable to that of a deity—and her physical defenses were similarly monstrous. Whether Mystic Eyes, heavy blows, or venom, hardly anything posed a mortal threat to her.

Of course, the serpent-woman's attacks weren't completely ineffective; her Mystic Eyes still placed heavy pressure on Jeanne. If it were just Jeanne alone, she'd happily grind her down, exhausting and tormenting her to death.

The real trouble, however, came from the pesky magician flying about in the sky—attacking from a safe distance, retreating instantly, and immediately returning at any lapse in attention to heal her allies.

The chants the magician uttered were undoubtedly in the language of gods, and her magic itself reached divine heights. While dealing with two powerful frontline attackers, the serpent-woman could barely do anything to counteract this healer, whose magic instantly nullified all the serpent-woman's accumulated damage.

As long as this witch's mana didn't run dry, the others could get up again and again as long as their wounds weren't instantly fatal!

What irritated the serpent-woman the most was…

The sword-wielding woman, and that accursed archer sniping coldly from afar—these two primary attackers…

Their strikes actually instilled genuine unease in her!

Especially that girl holding the peculiar longsword; the sense of crisis she exuded had already reached lethal levels.

Moreover, the sword wound on the serpent-woman's abdomen still hadn't completely healed!

Altera aimed the tri-colored sword at the Mother of Beasts, eyes calm and indifferent.

The next instant, she moved like an afterimage, bypassing the serpent-woman's upper half entirely and slicing directly into her serpent tail, ripping open a massive gash.

"You…!"

Shock flashed across the serpent-woman's eyes.

Her serpentine tail was enormous and frequently targeted. While it wasn't a critical area, its scales were exceedingly tough—even high-tier Noble Phantasms normally couldn't leave a scratch.

Yet this mysterious girl had easily sliced through more than half of it in a single strike—it was utterly inconceivable!

The serpent-woman thrashed violently, twisting her body to force Altera back, then stared solemnly at the destructive Hun.

The threat posed by this girl was far too great…

Today, she absolutely must be eliminated!

If someone had observed Altera's status screen at this exact moment, they'd have noticed that the original divinity present in her intrinsic skills had vanished.

Replacing it was───

God-Slayer… A++!

...

"It's really Goddess Tiamat…!"

"Run! There's no way we can win…!"

"This is the power of the Mother Goddess… How can anyone possibly stand against something like that…?"

At the far end of the Northern Wall, countless soldiers threw down their weapons and armor, fleeing in panic.

The civilians of the nearby town were even worse off—not only fleeing desperately, but many had already collapsed on their knees, trembling uncontrollably or mumbling nonsense, clearly having given up entirely.

Meanwhile, hordes of demonic beasts exploited the gap left as the city's top fighters were occupied, successfully breaching the wall and beginning a bloody massacre within the residential areas.

Fortunately, a small contingent of soldiers still retained their will to fight—and these happened to be the elite—otherwise casualties would have multiplied many times over.

Ophis observed everything, expression solemn and cold.

"Lily, Mash! Quickly, help them!" Witnessing the tragedy unfolding, Ritsuka gritted her teeth and swiftly issued orders to her two Servants.

Both girls seemed to have been waiting for this exact command. No sooner had Ritsuka spoken than two shadows already dashed forth.

"Gather the soldiers together." Ophis nodded toward Ritsuka, grabbing a nearby soldier who still maintained fighting spirit and issuing her order.

"Y-Yes, Your Majesty!" Only now noticing their king's presence, the soldiers' morale surged visibly as they began passing down orders.

Under the cover of the newly arrived elite fighters, the nearby units that could still battle quickly rallied—but numbered merely a few hundred at most.

With a glance, Ophis noticed that the majority of these soldiers had received her blessing.

Satisfied, Ophis spoke plainly:

"Those blessed by my power will exterminate the enemy. Everyone else, lead the civilians to safety. The goddess—I shall handle her myself."

"Yes!" they shouted in unison.

As the soldiers dispersed, Ophis leaped atop the wall, narrowing her eyes as she stared intently at the serpent-woman currently entangled with Jeanne and the others.

A moment later, Ritsuka climbed up with help from her Servants. Staring at the serpent-woman, shock flickered across her eyes.

"So that's Tiamat…?"

"Humanoid portion ten meters tall, total length exceeding one hundred meters! Divine Spirit Spirit Origin detected—Class: Special Avenger!" Through the communicator, Roman swiftly conveyed his analysis.

"Tiamat, huh… A bit too weak, isn't she…?"

Ophis murmured quietly, observing as the serpent-woman gradually fell into disadvantage under Altera's relentless assault.
