Chapter 246 - Chapter 246: The Meaning of Magic

Ankh quickly asked, "What is the full name of that god?"

"Full name?" Edolas Lucy scratched her head. "I only heard he was called Ankh, nothing else."

"This god... I actually read a bit about him in some books." Edolas Cana, who had walked over with Earthland Cana and Gildarts, spoke slowly.

"Legend says that before the Edolas Kingdom was established, the first king was a destitute beggar. At that time, facing war and chaos, he was filled with anger and wanted to change the world. Unfortunately, he lacked the power to support his ambitions, leaving his talents with no outlet."

"When he was in complete despair, a deity named Ankh suddenly appeared in the world. He taught the first king knowledge and Magic, bestowed upon him a national treasure—a Magic artifact—and then disappeared."

"It is said that even now, a statue of this deity is still enshrined in the royal palace's forbidden grounds. Before Queen Shagotte became a god, King Faust even forcibly ordered all citizens to worship the God Ankh."

Mystogan, who had been listening for a while, looked at the captivated listeners and hesitated.

"Actually... when I was a child in the royal palace, I secretly saw this statue too."

Ankh pointed at himself curiously. "Does it really look that much like me?"

Mystogan nodded silently, then shook his head. "The facial features are indeed strikingly similar, but... there are some differences."

"I was exiled from the palace by my father when I was very young, and he never allowed me to visit the forbidden grounds for worship, so I never got to hear the legends about this deity."

Ankh tapped his fingers on the table, lost in silent contemplation.

'The God of Life and Emotion?'

'Could this legendary figure from Edolas truly be one of the Twenty-Three Deities?'

'Or perhaps a Divine Successor?'

'But that does not make sense—this overlaps with the domain governed by Ankhseram...'

'In that case... I might as well see it for myself.'

After inquiring about the legend, Ankh finally steered the conversation back to the main topic.

"Lucy, we want to go to the royal capital. Could we ask you to use the guild's Teleportation Device to send us?"

Edolas Lucy hesitated for a moment before explaining, "But... the Teleportation Device broke during its last use, and we do not have nearly enough Magic Power to support your journey to the royal capital."

"Don't worry about that."

Ankh smiled faintly.

He extended his hand and made a sudden grasping motion in the air.

Pure white Magic Power began forming in his palm like freezing ice, instantly expanding into the shape of a massive lacrima.

"We will provide the Magic Power for the teleportation—as much as you need."

Edolas Lucy's eyes sparkled as she cradled the Lacrima Ankh had created, exclaiming.

"Mages from Earthland are truly amazing! To think you can generate such dense Magic Power directly from your own body!"

The Edolas Fairy Tail members quickly gathered around, expressing utter astonishment at Ankh's ability to condense Magic Power out of thin air.

Mystogan watched the Edolas members chattering excitedly around the Magic Crystal, his eyes revealing highly complex emotions.

Lily, wrapped up tightly without any trace of his Exceed appearance, could not help but ask.

"Your Highness, is there something you wish to say?"

Mystogan glanced at him, took a deep breath, and walked up to Edolas Lucy. "Lucy, I want to ask you a question."

"If... starting from today, the Magic Power and Magic of Edolas were to disappear completely, what should we do?"

The atmosphere in the guild instantly grew heavy.

Everyone from Earthland also fell silent, watching the Edolas members with complicated expressions.

Mystogan's plan for them was to storm the royal capital, reverse-activate the Anima to send everyone home, and then destroy the Anima to end the sinful plundering forever.

However, after reverse-activating the Anima, not only would everyone from Earthland be forcibly sent back, but Edolas's already scarce Magic Power would also be sent away.

It would instantly dissipate within Earthland's powerful Magic ecosystem.

Because of this, Edolas would become a world entirely without Magic Power.

Mystogan despised the kingdom's bandit-like behavior, believing that all evil originated from the king and his obsession with Magic Power.

Therefore, he wanted to use this opportunity to overthrow his father's rule while simultaneously eliminating the world's Magic Power, letting the kingdom experience the bitter taste of being plundered.

It sounded somewhat like an angry outburst, but since the disappearance of Magic Power was inevitable anyway, why worry about whether it happened sooner or later? His concern was not the scarcity of magic, but the inequality of it.

If it was impossible to ensure everyone had magic, then at least everyone could have none.

However... Mystogan, who detested the kingdom's actions, hesitated when he saw these innocent mages.

Edolas Lucy watched the suddenly silent crowd, then glanced back at her companions.

Having already learned a thing or two from the banquet conversations earlier, she suddenly broke into a bright laugh all by herself.

"What would happen without magic power?" Edolas Lucy looked at her own hands, her smile turning somewhat bitter.

"At first, I would probably feel despair."

Mystogan's expression shifted.

He gritted his teeth and said, "If you cannot accept this, Lucy, we could..."

"No need. You still have to return, don't you? This was our world's mistake to begin with—making two parallel lines intersect."

Edolas Lucy interrupted Mystogan with a laugh.

She looked at her somewhat gloomy companions with a smile that held a touch of genuine relief.

"When we had magic before, everyone just wanted more. That king wished he could gather all the magic power in the world into his own hands. Magic guilds suffered greatly from this, and we lost many companions..."

As if recalling those painful memories, soft sobbing began to emerge from the crowd in the hall.

But Edolas Lucy's gaze remained firm as she said:

"I cannot imagine life without magic power, but actually... I really cannot imagine life without my companions."

This Lucy, so different from her timid Earthland counterpart yet shining with the exact same essence, smiled as she looked at Makarov.

"The Third Guild Master should understand—the most important part of a 'Mage Guild' might seem to be the magic, but what truly connects everyone in the guild is love."

"Love is the origin of all magic. Even if the part of magic that can be released disappears, as long as we still have our companions and our bonds remain unbroken, magic will never truly vanish. We will still be a Mage Guild."

Makarov stared blankly at the tearful Edolas Lucy.

Edolas Cana also spoke with a soft laugh, "So, go do what you need to do. Dont worry about us."

Edolas Juvia turned her head away.

Though her posture was cold, her voice was exceptionally warm.

"Don't worry. Even without magic power, our guild will still be the strongest."

Edolas Gray nodded repeatedly nearby, laughing optimistically.

"As long as I can see Juvia peacefully every day, it wouldn't be so bad even without magic."

Edolas Bisca and Alzack held each other, their eyes burning with passion as they said.

"Being able to live peacefully with the one you love doesn't sound so bad when you think about it."

Edolas Lucy took a deep breath and gave Mystogan a solid slap on the back, laughing loudly.

"Fairy Tail will always help Fairy Tail! No matter what you do, go for it with everything you've got!"

"And Third Master, you can rest assured—this guild will not disappear, no matter which world we are in, whether we have so-called magic power or not!"

The girl grinned cheerfully at Makarov, who, in that moment, seemed to see the most brilliant future.

"Lucy... you are really suited to be Guild Master."
