LITTLE SAM'S BEST STORYTELLER

HOW THE BEST STORIES START

Once upon a legend (because Little Sam was sure the best way to start a story was "Once upon a time" X "Legend has it", right here in the plains, there was a wise and strong alpha and his lovely and kind Luna..."

"Can't the Luna be the wise and strong one?" Little Sam asked.

"What?" Beta Lucas blinked, then of course he realized that must be true too, "Alright, there was a wise and strong alpha and an equally wise and strong Luna."

Little Sam frowned, "Then who would be the kind one?"

"The Beta," Beta Lucas was quite the expert storyteller, "The Alpha had a lovely and kind Beta."

"Oh, good." Little Sam nodded, "I'm glad there's someone kind. Mama says good things always happen to kind people."

"Of course they do!" Beta Lucas nodded, "But sometimes terrible things happen too."

"What, why?" Little Sam demanded.

"Hoo boy..." Beta Lucas shook his head and decided to amend his tale, "Only sometimes... Your mother is right, Sam. Remember this, your mother is always right."

Little Sam nodded, "What about my Dad?"

"What, our Alpha?" Beta Lucas shook his head harder, "Of course he is always right too. Even if he's wrong, he's right."

"I don't get it." Little Sam frowned. It was a very little frown, and Beta Lucas felt she was particularly cute when she wore it.

"Hooboy, you don't know the half of it." Beta Lucas insisted, "Our Alpha is always right. No matter how wrong he is, he is right. Have I ever told you about the time the Alpha fixed time?"

This was when Little Sam realized that the best stories didn't have to start with anything like "Once upon a time" or "Legend has it". When Beta Lucas told it, the best ones always started with, "Have I ever told you about..."

"... And they live happily ever after." Because that was how the best stories ended.

"Hooboy, now that was messy business." Beta Lucas shook his head at his own story, "I did say... I mean his lovely and kind Beta did warn him not to repeatedly tweak the timeline, but the Alpha wanted to save more of his wolves and ended up breaking the... Well it's complicated, but who knew? If you travelled through time enough, the passageways might give out and if you aren't careful, you might end up breaking through the dimensional walls..."

Beta Lucas stopped when he noticed Little Sam's little frown deepen. Then he shook his head again, "I told you it was complicated. So anyway, that was how the Alpha and his Beta accidentally broke time."

"I thought you said the Alpha was always right?" Little Sam asked.

"What?" Beta Lucas paused, "Yes. The Alpha is always right. I didn't say breaking time was wrong."

"Oh," Little Sam considered this, "So it's not like breaking rules?"

"Sometimes rules are also meant to be broken." Beta Lucas said.

"Mama says we should always follow the rules." Little Sam informed him.

"Yes, Luna is right." Beta Lucas agreed.

"Sometimes Dad breaks cups. Yesterday, Dad threw his cup at the wall, and it bounced like a ball and hit his computer."

Beta Lucas winced that the memory because he was there too, "Hoo boy, that was one strong cup."

Little Sam nodded because the computer screen never recovered even though the coffee cup survived it. Dad had gotten even madder after that.

"Sav-nah likes to throw her cup too." Little Sam reported, "But that's because Sav-nah is still little. I'm a big girl now, so I'm not allowed to throw things that are on the table."

"Yah man," Beta Lucas nodded, "You are all grown up now!"

"Yeah." Little Sam nodded too, "One day, I'll be even more all grown up. And I'll be a brave and strong alpha and go to the Colored Mountains..."

"Hoo boy, that's pretty far." Beta Lucas said.

"Don't worry." Little Sam assured him, "I won't be gone for long. I'll make sure to be home for dinner."

"Yah man." Beta Lucas was very relieved, "Just be home for dinner or Luna would worry."

"I'll bring back treasure too." Little Sam promised, "Enough for everyone."

Beta Lucas chuffed, remembering the last "treasure" Little Sam had given him, "Hoo boy, maybe not snails next time."

"Those were magic alive shells!" Little Sam told him.

"Yes." Beta Lucas agreed, "But maybe something not so alive next time. That was too much magic."

"Alright." Little Sam promised, "I will try to bring dead things back for you next time."
