"The Black Wolves of House Blackmere have always been home to the outcast and strange, much like me after all Lord Aurevails." Edric's tail lifted up for all in the tent to see, it was true half blood Fence were indeed a strange sight as it was uncommon for species to mix let alone produce a living child, even between humans and elves it was hard to produce an heir to a family even more so if the mother was the one that wasn't human.
"But we are not here to discuss my father's choice in letting me lead the wolves, we are here because you need my men to do what they rest of yours or theirs can, you need us to take the courtyard of said castle." Edric leaned back against the chair he was sitting in, it wasn't the first time since this campaign started that he and his men had to be the ones to save Lord Aurevails or many of the other nobles present in this tent from their own pride and arrogance.
"While it is true that you and your Black Wolves have been a big help to us in reclaiming the lands of house Trigan. Do not let minor victories go to your head, you are still a boy even if you are sixteen now you would do well to listen to your elders." Lord Aurevails voice was steady and calm as he spoke.
"Enough of this postering, I would like to have my castle back in at least one piece before the winter sets in now if we could discuss the plan to do so." The voice that spoke was Lord Trigan a pompous man in his early twenties one look at him and you could tell he was the typical spoiled rich kid even if he was just a count's son who just inherited the title.
"Lord Trigan is correct, let us discuss the plan." Lord Aurevails coughed as he cleared his throat.
About an hour or so had passed as all the nobles planned their next phase of the attack on the castle of house Trigan to reclaim it from its current inhabitants. The attackers from the earlier advance had been called back to the war camp to allow the wounded to be tended to. Many dead left on the battlefield belong to both attackers and defenders. Lord Aurevails was right, this siege would only get worse if the snow began to fall those already sick would die and food would need to be rationed even more just to keep the army from starving, that is at least until the deserters started to leave in droves.
Back in their makeshift pavilion, Edric and his men began to prepare to join the next assault on the castle even with the draw bridge now open the gatehouse tunnel was still a death trap. the narrow pass meant numbers had no real effect on the outcome of the battle, no if they wanted a victory the castle walls would need to be taken and a foothold would need to be established long enough for enough men to get over the walls and into the courtyard of said castle.
"Honestly the only reason Lord Trigan even lost his castle is because he is a shit person."
Fay spoke her mind as she helped the servant girls put on Edric's armor for him.
"Don't let him hear you say that Fay you know how other nobles can be when you insult them."
Edric smiled, trying not to laugh.
"Hey, it's not my fault humans can't handle the truth, that's why us Fences have to stick together."
Fay's tail wagged as she pulled the chainmail shirt over Edric's head and shoulders.
"Hey, watch the ears, Besides I'm only have Fence and a noble myself."
Edric hated the process it took to put on his armor as it almost took at least two servants to help him.
"Yeah, but you're not like a real nobleman your more like me well somewhat like me since you're a boy and not a girl also because you're a half breed, I guess as well."
Fay was losing herself in her own little world like usual, Edric had gotten used to it, and he liked having Fay around because she was only a year younger than him.
"Lady Fay mind your tongue when speaking to the young lord." one of the servant girls scolded Fay for how she was talking.
"It's fine just put on my breastplate and backplate and hand me my helm already."
Edric slightly barked the order wanting to get the long dressing period over with already.
As Edric and Fay along with the rest of the Black Wolves had finished their preparations for the attack on the castle walls they gathered in the small cloth wall pavilion. Garm and Dorf standing imposingly taller than everyone. Fay had returned to her own tent and slid on a chainmail shirt and a leather breastplate as the groups scout lighter armor was better, Ballad the half elf wore similar light armor as he inspected his short sword. Dravik stood beside his young lord Edric as they did one final inspection of everyone.
"Alright, with the castles drawbridge down most of the defenders are going to pull away from the walls, as such it will mean an easier fight for us, our great commander Lord Aurevails has given us the job of taking the east wall and securing a foot hold.
Edric was clearly annoyed by this as he knew he was being given the easy job, as the youngest of the nobles present and the one with the least combat experience he was always given the minor work as they said, the east wall had been the wall the attackers left untouched as such the defending army had left it lightly garrisoned during the siege but to their lack of judgement this was Lord Aurevails plan. By making the enemy think they would not attack there it was now the perfect spot to take the castle from.
The attacking army gathered at the edge of the hilltop looking down at the castle once again, the battlefield was strewn with the dead bodies left from previous attacks. After a week of laying siege to the castle, it was time for the final assault if this next wave did not break the defenders even after damaging the gatehouse and getting the draw bridge open the attackers would have no choice but to break the siege and leave, meaning Lord Trigan would have no choice but to abandon his ancestral home and lands to one of the usurpers subordinates an insult to his family name and honor he would never be able to live down.
Lord Aurevails atop his horse was easy to spot as he took his place at the center of the army, he drew his sword and raised it to the air.
"For the true king of Virelia and to drive back the usurper's dogs. ATTACK!"
His voice was brash as he raised it loud for all to hear.
"Archers loose!" one of the commanders shouted, a hail of arrows was sent to pelt the defenders on the walls as the infantry and knights rushed forward to resume their assault on the castle forward wall and gatehouse.
The same blood bath from earlier today had begun all over again as men rushed the walls with ladders and climbing hooks. the defenders raining arrows and stones down upon them, meanwhile the knights and men-at-arms rushed across the draw bridge again into the narrow tunnel underneath the gate house the sound of the wood groaning under all the weight as well as the clash of metal and dying men could be heard over the sounds of chaos.
Meanwhile Edric and his group along with another small number of men assigned under his command made their way around to the east side of the castle avoiding the massive battle taking place. It would be ideal if they could make it to the east wall without being seen by any of the defenders but even still once, they began their attack it would be a blood bath all the same.
