Charles ultimately couldn't convince Rogue to stay; she left the school with resolute determination. Many other students left with her. Except for a couple of timid souls, most didn't heed the professor's advice.
Faced with their futures, these individuals chose the seemingly brighter path. Charles' methods were simply too oppressive for these young people. They preferred to gamble in a broader sky instead of hiding in a cage for life because of a little hardship. Young people always like to strive; this is something no one can change.
Watching this group of young children board the bus heading to the city in batches, Charles slowly loosened his grip on the handrail. He ultimately didn't use his abilities to change these children's wills. Therefore, he could only watch these children leave.
He was an upright and principled person. And because of this, he was always being schemed against. It wasn't that he lacked wisdom, but that he was too steadfast in his principles. He had suffered enough, and it seemed he would continue to suffer.
Rogue's group split into two groups. One group boarded the train to Huiyao City. Through Zhou Yi's arrangements, there would be special personnel to receive them, so they didn't need to worry about encountering any trouble on the way.
The other group went together to New York City Police Department Headquarters. They held the orders signed by Police Commissioner George Stacy and arrived at the police station's reception desk under the strange gazes of a group of police officers.
At this moment, Stacy was in a state of utter desperation.
With the fame of a certain superhero, more and more people emerged in New York, the most chaotic place in terms of public order, to play the role of superheroes. Among these people were ordinary people full of fantasies, as well as some with genuine superpowers.
But Stacy didn't have a high opinion of these guys. They were taking the police's jobs. They didn't have the identity of a police officer, yet they performed the functions of one, and they did so in the most violent way.
This was the way that Stacy disliked the most. He knew that even the Dawn Knight wanted to uphold justice and maintain peace, he would first communicate with him. No matter what, the Dawn Knight gave the police enough face. But who did these people think they were?
One by one, they acted recklessly, running around the world under the guise of upholding justice, not only interfering with the normal actions of the police, but even causing a great deal of unnecessary losses at certain times. Sometimes Stacy even had the impulse to concentrate police forces to arrest one or two extremists.
But he also knew that this was unlikely. After all, the police were ordinary people, and they were really powerless to deal with these extraordinary non-humans. And even if they succeeded, they would probably lose a lot of manpower. Stacy, who always cared for his subordinates, couldn't do such a thing that disregarded the lives of his subordinates for a momentary impulse.
But some things, what should be done, still had to be done. Stacy thought for a moment and signed a wanted notice. The name on the wanted notice clearly wrote the title "Spider-Man".
"Brad, issue this wanted notice. Be quick, I want everyone in New York to know that this bastard is wanted." Stacy beckoned a young police officer over and stuffed the wanted notice directly into his arms.
The police officer named Brad glanced at the wanted notice in his hand, looked at his superior with some surprise, and asked.
"Chief, isn't this going too far? Spider-Man has helped us a lot!"
"I didn't ask him to help us!" George Stacy waved his hand dismissively, cutting off the young officer's next words.
"That little bug is useless except for swinging around, and because of him, several of our major operations were exposed in advance. It got me chewed out, and I had to take it. Listen to me carefully, don't sympathize with this guy. Because of this little bug, people now look at us cops like we're idiots. If you don't want to lose your job, just listen to me."
"Alright, you're the chief, I'll listen to you." With his job on the line, Brad didn't have the leisure to sympathize with Spider-Man. He took the wanted poster and walked toward the dispatch room. Stacy watched him leave, once again pondering how to deal with the other guys that kept popping up.
Spider-Man was a pushover; he dealt with ordinary small-time criminals, and his methods were very soft. Knocking them out was already considered his most violent tactic. So, while Stacy didn't like him, he wouldn't go to great lengths to deal with him.
But some other characters couldn't be treated like that, such as the Punisher. This ruthless guy would beat criminals to death once he caught them; not dying was considered good luck. When the police went to clean up the mess, they usually found a bunch of dead people.
If infringing on the police's duties made Stacy feel disgusted, then the Punisher's act of taking away others' lives without a trial only made him hate him. He had wanted to arrest this madman more than once, but he always managed to escape the net. The Punisher's expertise in anti-tracking and reconnaissance left even this old cop somewhat helpless.
He was still agonizing over this matter when the phone on his desk suddenly rang.
"It's me, what's up?" Because it was an internal line, Stacy didn't care much about his tone. Having been a cop for so many years, if nothing else, at least the young lads under him were absolutely convinced of his authority and wouldn't cause any trouble.
"Sir, there's a group of kids here looking for you. They have an agreement you signed!"
"Kids? What kids?" George Stacy was completely baffled. He didn't remember signing any agreements related to children.
"They're students from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. They say it's about the press conference you're holding in two days."
Hearing this, Stacy remembered where these students came from. He immediately perked up and instructed, "Let them in. And don't let those reporters see them."
"Understood, sir." The police department receptionist hung up the phone and said to the somewhat restrained students in front of him, "You can go in now. Go up the stairs and turn right. It's the last room on the second floor. Also, the Chief hasn't been in a good mood lately, so you'd better be careful."
"Thank you, sir!" Rogue smiled and led her classmates inside. Because of her performance in front of Charles, Rogue had surprisingly become the leader of this group of students who were out trying to earn a living. She hadn't expected this at first, but she didn't mind it.
With Stacy's prior arrangement, Rogue and her group were quickly led by the police to Stacy's office. The moment Stacy saw the group of students, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Are you the students Mr. Zhou Yi sent?"
His question was very sharp, as he didn't care at all if these students realized he was suspicious of them. He was very doubtful of these youngsters, and he wasn't optimistic at all about whether they could handle the task he had agreed upon with Zhou Yi.
"You're absolutely right, we are the people Mr. Zhou Yi designated," Rogue replied to Stacy, neither humbly nor arrogantly. As a mutant, she had long been prepared to be discriminated against, so Stacy's harsh tone didn't bother her at all.
"Seriously, kids. I don't have faith in you, not at all. You're too young, probably about the same age as my kids in high school. These things are too dangerous for you. So, I hope you go back and send a group of older, more mature, and more capable people. Understand?"
Stacy knocked on the table and picked up a freshly brewed cup of coffee. As soon as he poured the coffee into his mouth, he immediately spat it out in a sorry state. The coffee was too hot, scalding his tongue and raising blisters.
He quickly put the coffee down on the table and took out a handkerchief to wipe away the stains on his body.
When people are in a sorry state, they are always very impatient. He looked at the students who were still standing there and waved his hand.
"You can go, I will convey my meaning to Mr. Zhou Yi. Don't worry, he won't blame you."
"Mr. Director, I don't think you understand the potential of our abilities. Is it too hasty to let us go?" Rogue placed a hand on the table, meeting George Stacy's eyes. "We won't let you or Zhou Yi down, just give us a chance, Mr. Director."
Seeing the earnest expressions on Rogue's team's faces, Stacy sighed.
"Alright, I'll give you five minutes. Demonstrate your abilities here. If I'm satisfied, I'll consider the agreement."
"Thank you, sir. We promise we won't disappoint you."
Rogue bowed deeply, then immediately gestured to Bobby behind her. She signaled for him to do something.
The honest and simple Bobby scratched his head, thought for a moment, and then lightly touched Stacy's coffee with his fingertip. In an instant, a layer of frost appeared on the surface of the scalding coffee, and then a thin layer of ice formed on top.
At this point, he quickly withdrew his hand, and said, while touching his head, "It shouldn't be hot anymore, sir!"
Stacy reached out and touched the cup. At this moment, he felt nothing but icy cold. He looked at the simple young man and said.
"Kid, this coffee's cold. But that's a nice trick you've got there. Does it have any other uses besides this?"
"I can create ice out of thin air, anywhere, anytime. Like this! Of course, if you want something bigger, that's no problem either."
Bobby closed his fingers, rubbing them together. An ice coffee cup immediately appeared in front of Stacy. He fiddled with the cup shyly, saying,
"It usually doesn't melt."
"Usually means?" Stacy picked up the cup. He found that besides being a little cold, the ice cup didn't show any signs of melting in his hand, not even a trace of water. This made him curious and he pressed on, asking.
