Chapter 182 - Arc Energy and Armor Concepts

"Hey, this is my workspace. I need it to be brighter. You guys better get me a skylight. Anyway, the lighting has to be good." The empty cave was now filled with busy figures. Tony was directing the terrorists, telling them to place the things he needed in designated locations. He was also drastically modifying the environment here.

He really hadn't expected this group of terrorists to have so much energy, even managing to get all sorts of experimental equipment in just one night. Although they were all ordinary, even defective, items, being able to get these things in this godforsaken place was no small feat.

However, although he had gotten everything he needed, Tony was still mischievously messing with these terrorists. For no other reason than to make himself happy.

"Put this thing in the corner, yes, right there. No, no, no, put all the missiles to the side. Do you want me to blow them up when I'm experimenting? Make the skylight bigger, and move it a bit to the side."

Tony was exhausting these terrorists, and Yinsen was also constantly helping him translate his needs. The Bearded Man listened on the side and then instructed his men. Although Tony spoke quickly and incoherently, and often contradicted himself, The Bearded Man's men never complained. They obediently followed his instructions.

So, soon, Tony lost interest. He wanted to see how angry these guys would get, but since he couldn't achieve his goal, he naturally chose to give up.

"Get me welding tools, acetylene, propane, anything will do. Also helmets, goggles, crucibles. How much energy can you get me? Never mind, I'll do it myself. Get me two more cleaning instruments, and don't give me these junk things. You've given me enough junk already. I want something above standard."

The Bearded Man dutifully wrote down everything Tony needed. When Tony finally stopped talking, he asked with a worried expression, "Is that all? Do you need anything else? You'd better tell us everything at once."

"After you bring me everything, I want everyone to stay away from my lab. Damn it, not a single one of you has an engineering degree!"

Listening to Yinsen's translation, the Bearded Man's face twitched. It was the first time he'd ever heard someone insult their lack of education. But considering Tony's potential usefulness, he swallowed his anger.

The terrorists were incredibly efficient. They fulfilled all of Tony's requests in just one morning. After they delivered the two cleaning machines he'd specifically requested, the Bearded Man walked over to Tony and stared at him.

"You can start working now. As long as you finish what we want, we'll give you your freedom."

With that, he extended his hand.

"He says he'll give you freedom, but honestly, I don't believe him," Yinsen said to Tony with a smile. Tony responded with a smile of his own.

"I don't believe it either!" Tony said, shaking The Bearded Man's hand firmly.

The Bearded Man's face immediately lit up with a brilliant smile. He didn't know what those two had said, but he had filled in the blanks of their conversation with his own imagination, and he was very satisfied with the imagined content.

Watching The Bearded Man leave with his men, sealing the door from the outside, Yinsen rubbed his hands together and asked, "What should we do now?"

"Do whatever you want, as long as you don't stop! Don't forget to aim at those cameras above. As for me, I'm going to see if the equipment we need to escape is complete." Tony tossed out the sentence and then burrowed into the pile of missiles.

He was a typical loner, especially when it came to research and development. Most of the time, he liked to work alone, or only rely on the mechanical equipment he developed. Perhaps this was because he was too talented in this area; even ordinary researchers would slow down his progress if they helped him. So he had developed this habit.

However, Yinsen clearly couldn't accept Tony's arrangement, especially being left alone to face the surveillance cameras above, which made him feel at a loss.

"Hey, buddy, I have no idea what to do. Can you tell me how you usually work in the lab?"

Tony was trying to move a missile. Even though he usually paid attention to exercise, moving this giant thing by himself was still too much for him. So, after hearing Yinsen's call for help, he sighed and said,

"Forget it, I don't think you have the talent for this. Come help me, let's lift this thing onto the table. If we get back, you must remind me to make things smaller. Never mind, I probably won't be making this kind of thing again."

The two of them struggled for a long time before finally lifting the missile onto the table. Tony then put a bag of tools into Yinsen's arms and took out a screwdriver to start fiddling with the missile in front of him.

His movements were very skilled because all of Stark Industries' current high-tech weapons were invented by him, including the missile in front of him. Therefore, he knew the internal structure like the back of his hand and was very clear about what parts he needed and what things he could use to deceive this group of terrorists, who generally lacked education.

Yinsen watched Tony remove the warhead and toss it on the ground with a twitch of his eyelid. Then he took out a bunch of complicated-looking machinery from the missile. He couldn't help but ask curiously,

"What are you doing? You're not really planning to make something for them, are you?"

"As you can see, I'm taking the missile apart and finding the things we can use. As for making something, of course, I have to, but I can guarantee that what I make is definitely not what they want. Or rather, it's what they want the least."

Tony said, his hands never stopping. After he used tweezers to take a small part from a piece of complicated-looking machinery, he threw the machine away and held up the tweezers, saying to Yinsen,

"This big chunk is useless. See this little thing? That's what we need."

"What is it?" Yinsen looked at the tiny object, even smaller than a chip. He couldn't imagine how it would help them escape.

"It's Palladium, 0.15 grams. We need 1.6 grams, so we have to dismantle all those missiles."

"Are you sure?" Yinsen looked at the missiles stacked up, which were bigger than a car, and forced a wry smile.

"Of course. Hurry up! We're running out of time! I don't want to stay in this godforsaken place any longer!"

"Tell me, what are they doing? I don't understand it at all." On the other side, two terrorists stared at the monitor and started chatting in Persian. Hearing his comrade's question, the other terrorist sneered.

"Idiot, if you could understand it, would you be here watching this?"

"Then what should I do?" the questioner asked again.

"You can go build bombs at the base, you idiot."

"Sounds about right."

The watchers were idly chatting, while the watched was desperately racing against time. Tony worked efficiently and quickly; soon they had the 1.6 grams of Palladium they needed, and with Yinsen's help, this precious 1.6 grams of Palladium was shaped into the form Tony wanted.

This was also, so far, one of the few things besides language that made Yinsen proud. His steady hands, honed by years of surgical practice, allowed him to not waste even 0.1 grams of the material. Although, until now, he still didn't know what Tony wanted this thing for.

And soon, he would know. As if he had already completed the design in his mind, Tony's hands became more efficient than any instrument in the world. Copper wire, circuits, frames, everything was assembled around that 1.6 grams of Palladium. As the day drew to a close, a finished product finally emerged from Tony's hands.

Bright blue light bloomed from this small finished product, crystal clear, making the originally crudely made device look like a large blue gem, and the kind that glows on its own. A cable extended from this small device, connecting to the electronic equipment in the cave. This immediately brought the originally lifeless equipment to life.

Looking at this charming little thing, Yinsen couldn't help but exclaim.

"Wow, this is really beautiful, but I don't think it's the Jericho Missile!"

"Of course not, this is a Miniature Arc Reactor. You can think of it as a miniature, non-radioactive nuclear reactor. This problem has plagued Stark Industries for thirty years, and now, in this godforsaken place, I've finally solved it."

"How much power does it generate?" Yinsen continued to ask. He could hardly imagine that something so small could be a nuclear reactor, and even less imagine what it could do.

"If I haven't miscalculated, and I usually don't. It should be three billion joules per second, which translates to the energy consumption of a large machine for fifteen minutes. You know what I mean by a large machine, the really big kind!"

"I still don't understand, what's the point of making this thing? To provide free energy to these guys?"

"See this? I've been strafed by at least fifteen guns, and bombed by anti-tank missiles. Although it wasn't a direct hit on me. But the result is the same, I'm perfectly fine." Tony said, while using a knife to forcefully scratch his arm.

The blade scraped across his skin, blocked by a layer of fine metal particles with an electric glow. And Tony said to the dumbfounded Yinsen.

"This is a product from a friend of mine, a Nanometal Suit. With it, I'm invulnerable, but I can't do more than that. So I was thinking, if I had a larger, more advanced armor with more complete weapons, could I break out of here? And to do this, the most important problem to solve is…"

"Energy!" Yinsen answered for him. Tony had already gone this far; if he couldn't guess, it would be a problem with his intelligence.

"That's right, that's it. Check out what I finished last night!"

Tony said as he pulled out a pile of seemingly messy blueprints. Yinsen took a look and was completely baffled.

"What is this?"

"Whoa, be careful, don't mess them up!" Tony snatched the blueprints back from Yinsen, who was flipping through them. He placed them on a light table. The thin-as-a-cicada's-wing blueprints, stacked together, finally formed a complete whole, a mighty and imposing Iron Armor.

Finally seeing the whole picture, Yinsen couldn't help but exclaim in admiration.

"Incredible, Tony. I can only say, you are a genius!"

"I always am, no need to confirm it again!"

Tony shuffled the blueprints and got back to work. Finishing this big hunk of metal wasn't an easy task.
