The sight of the Hulk charging forward was enough to strip even the bravest soul of all courage. Each stride of his massive thighs sent earthquake-like tremors through the ground, and his enormous feet crushed the hospital corridor floor into rubble.
Nothing could stand in his path. A casual swing of his arm was enough to flatten any obstacle, reducing three-dimensional objects to two-dimensional smears. This wasn't an exaggeration; chairs and medical equipment lining the corridor were reduced to flattened stains on the walls. This terrifying spectacle kept doctors and patients cowering at a safe distance.
But there was one man who couldn't escape, no matter how hard he tried, because the terrifying Hulk had completely set his sights on him.
The killer, disguised as a medic, still didn't understand what had happened. Why had such a monstrous creature appeared after he fired his shot? Even less did he understand why this monster was relentlessly pursuing him. One thing was clear: if he didn't run now, he'd never run again.
To his credit, his instincts were sharp. But in reality, they were useless. The creature hunting him had long since surpassed human limitations.
By the time he finally reached the escape tunnel, the Hulk was less than a few meters away. The situation nearly made him wet his pants. Yet his will to survive burned strong. Frantically, he ripped open the escape tunnel door and scrambled inside, using every limb.
He figured that even if the door couldn't hold the monster, the narrow tunnel would severely restrict its movement. He'd memorized every passage here while planning today's assassination. If he could just delay the beast for a moment, he was confident he could slip away from its grasp.
But reality always stayed one step ahead of his thoughts, not one step behind. The Hulk's massive body crashed straight through the thick wall. He didn't bother with the door; he simply chose a more direct method. The impact brought him face-to-face with the killer, reducing their distance to mere inches.
The killer froze, his plan to jump down the stairs vanishing. A casual punch from the Hulk had already brought the entire staircase crashing down. Watching the rubble and steel bars cascade down in a dust storm, the killer immediately abandoned the idea.
He raised his hands obediently, pressing himself against the wall behind him.
"Hey, big guy. I'm one of the good guys. Don't hurt me. I'm serious." His voice trembled, barely audible even to a mouse. Heaven knows how this killer had managed to utter such words, and he didn't know himself why he'd said them. Utter terror had stripped him of all rational thought, leaving him acting purely on instinct. These words were, strictly speaking, nothing more than desperate, survival-driven babbling.
Hulk lowered his head, his massive, emerald-like eyes fixed on the killer before him. His face was contorted into a grotesque mask of rage, his teeth grinding together with a sound that slowly ground away at the killer's resolve.
In an instant, all reason fled. He fumbled for his pistol, screaming "Die! Die!" as he frantically pulled the trigger at the giant just a few meters away.
The shot was barely audible. He watched in horror as the bullet bounced off the giant's muscles like a rubber ball, rolling weakly to the ground. The killer's body went limp, as if his bones had been dissolved. A foul stench of excrement spread from his lower body—a clear sign he had been utterly terrified.
But for the enraged giant, this was far from enough. His massive hand shot out, crushing the killer's relatively frail body. The moment his grip tightened, a sickening crack of bone echoed through the air. In that instant, half of the killer's life was extinguished.
The relatively unintelligent Giant, unaware of this, found it insufficient to quell his rage. He aimed at the wall and hurled the Killer like a baseball.
It was like smashing a tomato against a wall, instantly splattering the entire surface with crimson liquid. The thrower's immense strength was such that the wall collapsed and shattered, a massive chunk of masonry flying through the air like a meteorite. Under the eyes of countless onlookers, it tore through the opposite skyscraper before finally crashing down.
This sudden chaos drew everyone's attention to the Hulk's presence. Riots and frantic screams of panic erupted uncontrollably. The cacophony agitated the Hulk, who roared like thunder, his voice shaking the very air. He turned and began stomping back in the direction he had come.
Just then, Betty caught up. She had heard the commotion outside and knew the chaos Bruce's transformation had caused. But she ignored it, because something far more urgent had happened.
"Bruce, hurry and come with me," she said, waving at the Hulk before turning and running toward Jennifer's room.
At this moment, confusion clearly spread across the Hulk's face. Once transformed into the Hulk, Bruce's rationality fell into a deep slumber, replaced by the will of someone calling himself the Hulk. Unlike the brilliant and extraordinarily intelligent Bruce Banner, the Hulk's intellect was only equivalent to that of an eight or nine-year-old child. He judged things entirely by his instincts and was easily swayed by emotions.
So far, the only person who could slightly influence him was Betty Ross. Upon hearing Betty's call, the Hulk merely scratched his head before lumbering after her.
Thanks to his earlier rampage, the hallway was now completely empty. He strode unimpeded into the room. But the moment he entered the room, which he had ripped a gaping hole in, even the Hulk's temperament couldn't help but be stunned by what he saw.
Jennifer didn't die from the earlier gunshot. On the contrary, that seemingly fatal shot triggered her body's self-preservation mechanisms, completely activating her hidden abilities. This resulted in the emergence of a completely new Jennifer Susan Walters.
The original Jennifer had been of average height, with a decent figure, and a lean, short-haired build. But now she stood over two meters tall, a towering woman with an incredibly muscular physique.
Her face remained unchanged, but her brown hair had transformed into waist-length green curls. Even more striking was her body: she had grown nearly two heads taller, her entire frame now packed with lean, defined muscles that radiated explosive power rather than bulk. And of course, the most eye-popping feature was her chest, which had ballooned from a C-cup to a colossal size that was sure to turn heads.
But that wasn't all. The most crucial change was her color: she had turned green, just like the Hulk. Combined with her current physique, she was now undeniably a She-Hulk.
No one had anticipated this, not even Hulk himself. He stared at this other version of himself, his massive jaw hanging open for a long moment before a single word escaped.
"Jennifer?"
"Now I believe you. He's Bruce!" Unlike Bruce's transformation, where Hulk's will completely suppressed his own, Jennifer, as the She-Hulk, seemed to retain her own consciousness. She first struggled against the tight, uncomfortable hospital gown that clung to her. Then she turned to Betty and said, "When will he change back? I'm not used to seeing him like this. Of course, I'm not used to seeing myself like this either!"
The gunshot wounds seemed to have no effect on Jennifer. After transforming into the She-Hulk, she appeared to possess abilities similar to Hulk's. The previous injuries had been completely healed during the transformation, and with the change, her physical strength and self-healing capabilities had surged dramatically, leaving her feeling invigorated and energetic.
"I don't know. Once he transforms like this, he needs to fully calm down before he can change back. As for you, I have no idea." Betty had just finished expressing her helplessness when the piercing wail of police sirens and the roar of helicopter blades suddenly erupted outside.
The sound made the Hulk, who had just begun to calm down, roar again in fury. Having been hunted down before, he always became enraged at the sound of similar noises. And rage meant the situation would only spiral further out of control.
With a single punch, he tore through the hospital wall and stood there, letting out a deafening roar at the approaching police officers, like a wild beast before a fight. This was the last thing Betty wanted to see. She quickly grabbed his arm and shouted,
"Bruce, calm down! Let's get out of here. Don't get caught up in this."
Hulk frowned, glancing at the police surrounding the hospital, then at Betty clinging to him. In the end, his feelings for her suppressed his rage. He growled low and pulled her into his arms.
"Jennifer, stay with me. Jump!" With that, Hulk stomped his foot and shot skyward like a cannonball. His immense strength propelled him hundreds of meters into the air.
Though his movements were as clumsy as an ape's, you couldn't deny his speed. With a few massive leaps, he bounded so far that all the police—even the helicopter hovering overhead—could only stare at his retreating figure in awe.
Hulk's movements only further ignited Jennifer's spirit. A lawyer and seasoned adventurer, she was naturally drawn to risk and excitement. The moment she saw Hulk leap, she couldn't suppress her eagerness. Never one to hold back her true feelings, she copied his leap and sprang into the air.
Her jump wasn't as high or as far as Hulk's, but her petite frame and light weight allowed her to ricochet between buildings multiple times with each bound. This enabled her to quickly catch up to Hulk's figure, vanishing from the sight of the countless police officers and onlookers.
Only then did the officers regain their composure. When they did, no one spoke. The day had been far too overwhelming.
"Man, maybe we should just quit."
"Quit? Isn't that a bit extreme? Jobs are hard to come by these days. We could at least ask for a raise and keep going."
"Forget it, man. This time he got away. If he hadn't, we'd be screwed. This is a death trap—no amount of money is worth it."
"You've got a point. Let's switch careers and become garbage collectors tomorrow."
