Chapter 204 - Super Soldier, Mad Warrior

At a US Military base on the East Coast, a spry old general in uniform, accompanied by his aide, strode swiftly into the base's Medical Ward. The moment he entered, his gaze fixed on a man lying nearly naked on a bed.

The man was extremely muscular. Though not tall, his body was rippling with sharp, defined muscles that, from a soldier's perspective, clearly marked him as a formidable individual.

However, the general hadn't come to admire the man's physique. He had come to observe his transformation. He clearly remembered that just a few weeks prior, the man had been critically injured during a classified mission, his bones nearly shattered. At the time, doctors had called it a miracle that he had survived at all.

The situation was that he was completely unharmed. The medical examination report showed not only no abnormalities but also values far exceeding those of a normal human. This alone suggested that something extremely important had happened to him, something of paramount importance to the general.

The general could barely contain his excitement as he addressed the patient who had just undergone such a drastic transformation.

"How do you feel, Blonsky?"

Emil Blonsky. That was the name of the man whose body had undergone such a radical change. His name indicated his Russian heritage. He had once belonged to the Soviet intelligence agency, the KGB. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he joined the British Royal Marines and was later seconded to the Navy SEALs.

As a soldier, he was undoubtedly top-tier. And since he began working for the general, he had already begun to climb beyond that level. Strictly speaking, he was no longer an ordinary soldier but a super soldier.

"I feel great, General Ross. But I'm also furious. I want to find that guy again and have another proper fight with him!"

Blonsky replied when the general asked about his condition. His words betrayed his burning resentment over his defeat and his desperate desire to find the man who had bested him so he could settle the score.

The US Army lieutenant general Blonsky addressed as General Ross was Thaddeus E. Ross, the mastermind behind the Super Soldier Program and the relentless pursuer of the Hulk. Having overseen the program's development, Ross naturally viewed the Hulk—a product of an accident during the program—as his own creation. He had been hunting the Hulk across the globe, seeking to unlock the secrets of his powers and replicate them. To this end, he had sacrificed countless soldiers, Blonsky among them. Fortunately, Blonsky had survived his encounter with the Hulk.

General Ross heard his words and fell silent for a moment before responding gravely.

"Blonsky, you know you're no match for him!"

"I know, General! I understand perfectly!" Blonsky interrupted General Ross, his expression growing increasingly agitated. "But you must realize, General, I'm the only one under your command capable of fighting that behemoth. And I believe I'm the most qualified to face him. All it takes is..."

"All it takes is?" General Ross frowned, sensing the unspoken condition in Blonsky's words. He didn't particularly like this soldier. Blonsky was too insubordinate and had a history of disobeying orders. While his abilities were undeniable, as the developer of the Super Soldier Program, General Ross valued collective strength above all else.

The program's goal was to transform every soldier into a super soldier—to elevate all of them to superhuman levels, not just a select few.

Blonsky mistakenly believed his superhuman status would earn him General Ross's favor, perhaps even allowing him to make unreasonable demands. This was a grave miscalculation that only worsened Ross's impression of him.

Yet Blonsky was right about one thing: he was the only soldier General Ross had who could currently counter the Hulk, the only real combat asset he could deploy. This wasn't due to any special quality, but because he was the only one who had successfully activated the Super Soldier Serum.

Of course, this Super Soldier Serum was not the same one that created Captain America. It was a replica General Ross had painstakingly developed over the years, based on the data left behind from the original program. Unfortunately, while the substance had been successfully replicated, its effects were negligible and, even worse, carried significant risks. This was what troubled General Ross the most.

Strictly speaking, this Super Soldier Serum was a failure, with an extremely low success rate. To date, there had only been one successful case: Emil Blonsky.

"Speak your mind. What is it you want?" General Ross had no habit of mind-reading. Though he disliked Blonsky, he had no other choice. As Blonsky himself had said, he was the only one capable of fighting the Hulk.

"I want another injection of that stuff," Blonsky said excitedly, mistaking the general's tone for appreciation of his talent. "But this time, I want a higher dose."

"Absolutely not!" General Ross immediately refused. "That stuff is incredibly dangerous! The chances of you surviving a second injection are slim! If it fails, soldier, you'll die on the operating table!"

He explained in no uncertain terms what would happen if Blonsky failed. Not that he cared about the soldier's life, but rather because he would lose a crucial weapon in his fight against the Hulk, even though he'd already confirmed Blonsky was no match for the green behemoth.

"General, listen. You finally tracked him down, didn't you?" Blonsky began trying to persuade General Ross, a fanatic for combat who cared nothing for danger as long as he could get his thrills. "But you can't catch him. We tried last time. You used every weapon at your disposal, including sonic weapons, and they were utterly useless against him."

"Those weapons didn't last as long as I did, did they? And General, after my failure, you had no choice but to retreat and watch him escape right before your eyes. And he took your daughter with him!"

Hearing this, even the seasoned General Ross couldn't help but flinch. It was a thorn that had long festered in his heart, and Blonsky had just brutally ripped it out and stabbed it back in.

His daughter, Betty Ross, was Bruce Banner's lover. Ever since Bruce Banner became General Ross's most wanted man, she had, without hesitation, sided with him and repeatedly offered him assistance. This was one of the things that enraged him most and filled him with the deepest shame.

His hostility towards Bruce Banner stemmed not only from his Hulk identity but also from the belief that Banner was the cause of the rift between him and his daughter. This was a near-universal sentiment among fathers-in-law towards their sons-in-law, though General Ross was undoubtedly the most extreme example.

Blonsky's successful strike at General Ross's vulnerable point only solidified his resolve. Initially, he had been inclined to let Blonsky live if possible, but now he viewed him as an experimental subject no longer worth considering. If Blonsky wanted to die, General Ross would naturally not stop him. Moreover, he wanted to see if the Super Soldier Serum held any further potential.

"Come see me after you've recovered, and I'll arrange another injection for you," General Ross replied with surprising ease, granting Blonsky's request. Little did Blonsky know that his life had already been categorized as worthless by the man before him.

Even if he had known, he probably wouldn't have cared. He didn't value his own life much to begin with.

"General, I think we can do it now," he said, his voice brimming with excitement, or rather, impatience. The expression on his face was unlike any experimental subject General Ross had ever seen.

"Follow me!" General Ross instructed his aide, leading Blonsky deeper into the base. This was where he stored all the materials related to the Super Soldier Program, and where Blonsky would receive his injection.

Blonsky had been here once before, the time he gained his superhuman strength. That's why he was so excited for his second visit.

"Anything else you want to say, Blonsky?" General Ross asked, narrowing his eyes as he looked at the doctor who was already waiting. He was essentially asking for last words, but Blonsky didn't understand the implication.

Facing General Ross's question, Blonsky appeared arrogant and confident.

"It's time to put me on the same starting line as that guy and make this game fair!"

Watching Blonsky step forward without hesitation and begin receiving the spinal injection—a procedure that could only be described as excruciating—General Ross had only one thought: *This man is a madman, a true lunatic.*

Yet perhaps only a madman could fight a monster. For some reason, this thought suddenly struck him, accompanied by a strong premonition. He felt Blonsky would endure this ordeal and emerge even stronger. He had never considered this possibility before, yet the idea now materialized abruptly in his mind.

He began to feel a sense of confidence in the procedure. However, before the surgery was even completed, his assistant rushed in.

"General, we've intercepted the target's communications and discovered his objective!"

The news immediately made General Ross forget about Blonsky. After witnessing the Hulk's power, this thought had already taken root in his mind.

*The Hulk, the Hulk... he's the most perfect creation I've ever seen.*
