"My God, my God! My God!" Samuel shouted excitedly. "This is a miracle! He's cured! He's really cured! It's incredible, absolutely incredible!"
Watching him gesticulate wildly, barely able to contain his excitement, Betty and Bruce, who had just recovered from the shock, burst into laughter.
"Samuel, you're overreacting."
"Overreacting? This is the most unbelievable thing I've ever witnessed! Overreacting is the only normal response! Everything you've experienced is a miracle, man!" Samuel braced his hands on the table, leaning forward to emphasize his point. "What just happened was incredibly dangerous, yet he actually succeeded! What are the odds of something like this happening again? Nobody knows—I wouldn't even dare to imagine!"
"Okay, okay!" Betty stopped Samuel from spiraling further and pressed him with concern. She needed an academic explanation to truly put her mind at ease. "Please sit down, Samuel. We need to review this. I need to know exactly what happened to Bruce."
"Alright, alright. Let's review it," Samuel stood up, waving his hands as he began to explain. "The Gamma pulse was emitted from deep within his cells. I think what you just did caused Bruce to subconsciously control the cellular changes under this radioactive energy. This mitigated the side effects of my Antidote on his body. That's why he was able to endure it just now."
"And because this fine Gamma energy was deeply hidden within his cells, it remained completely undetectable until it was released. That's why he's been able to live like a normal person all these years without dying from radiation sickness. You see, everything that's happened to him is a mutation—his transformation into that state was a mutation, and his reversal back to his original form is also a cellular mutation. And this mutation is completely reversible! My God, this is a miracle!"
"Now, we might have neutralized the radiation infection deep within his cells, or we might have merely temporarily suppressed his transformation. I lean towards the latter, but it's hard to prove my hypothesis because no test subjects have ever survived! Of course, that might be because they weren't injected with the early-stage muscle growth inhibitors."
"Wait, wait!" Bruce suddenly interjected, his expression growing perplexed. "You mentioned test subjects—what test subjects?!"
His face contorted in confusion, as in his memory, there had only ever been one other case like his in the world, at most with Jennifer added to the count.
Hearing Bruce's question, Samuel's face lit up with even greater excitement.
"Follow me, buddy. Let me show you my results!"
He led Bruce and the others into a cryogenic storage room. As soon as they entered, Bruce's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Holy hell, what are these?!"
"Bruce, look at this. This is all your blood. The sample you sent me wasn't nearly enough for the experiments, so I concentrated it and cloned more samples. By repeating the experiments, we can extract anything we want from it. Bruce, this is a miracle."
Samuel spread his arms wide, his face beaming with pride. He seemed to already see his glorious future in these samples, as if the Nobel Prize itself were beckoning him.
"No, no, no, Samuel, you can't do this. You don't understand how dangerous it is." Bruce tried to curb Samuel's delusions, making his intentions clear. "We have to destroy this—now!"
"Are you crazy, man? Do you know what we can achieve with this? Countless diseases will be eradicated. We'll become saviors, bringing blessings to the world!"
Samuel refused to agree with Bruce, seeing him as utterly insane. In Bruce's eyes, Samuel wasn't much better. Their clashing perspectives immediately plunged them into an argument.
All of this was observed by snipers deployed by the military.
"Sir, they're arguing. The target's heart rate is accelerating! Requesting permission to fire!"
The report immediately caught General Ross's attention.
"Permission granted. You must deliver a fatal blow. Put him down before he transforms, understand?" Ross barked his orders to his troops.
"Perimeter personnel, lock down all exits. Tactical Team, stand by. As soon as the snipers strike, charge in. Your primary objective is to rescue the hostages!"
"Snipers, you may engage at will."
With these commands, the military machine began to operate like a massive, synchronized mechanism. Yet not everyone was pleased.
Blonsky was one of them. His only thought was to battle the Hulk, not to prepare for a hostage rescue. But orders from superiors were absolute, and he could only obey General Ross's command.
Meanwhile, Bruce and Samuel's argument had reached a fever pitch.
"You have no idea how much power is contained within this! He's too dangerous, and you could never control him!"
"The three of us can handle it. This is Prometheus's Sacred Fire! Besides, we've already found the antidote. There's no longer any reason to hunt you down."
"They don't want the antidote! They want to use it to create weapons—weapons of mass murder!" Bruce's voice rose in fury, making Betty jump. Having been a passive observer until now, she suddenly flinched, but a flicker of red light on a distant building caught her peripheral vision.
At that moment, the sniper lurking there had just pulled the trigger.
"Bruce, watch out!" Betty threw herself forward, shoving Bruce out of the way. The consequence was that she was hit, struck by a powerful tranquilizer dart.
"Hostage hit! Repeat: Hostage hit!" The sniper immediately reported the situation. Hearing this, Ross roared, "Tactical Team, move in! Secure the area!"
This was the news Blonsky had been waiting to hear. He sprang into action instantly. His charge and leap were fluid and swift, making his speed seem astonishing. He burst through the three-story building, reaching the top floor in less than five seconds.
This left him far ahead of his teammates, but he didn't care. He didn't care if they kept up or not.
He kicked open Professor Samuel's laboratory door and stormed inside. There he saw Bruce holding Betty.
Driven by resentment and hope, he charged forward. He yanked Bruce to his feet, lifting him by the collar so he dangled in mid-air. He roared at him.
"Where is he? Where is he? Make him come out! Do you hear me? Make him come out!"
Bruce stared coldly at him. Even though his heart rate monitor was screaming, he didn't transform into the Hulk. Just as their experiments had shown, he wouldn't transform anymore.
"You'll never get him!"
Hearing Bruce's words, Blonsky's face contorted in fury. He slapped Bruce twice, but the humiliating act proved useless. Frustrated, he pulled out his pistol and aimed it at Bruce's abdomen.
"Get him out here now!"
The soldiers who had just arrived panicked at his frantic shouts. They hadn't expected to see the Hulk, and they began shouting to stop his madness.
"Blonsky, stop! Stop!"
Just then, a violent whistling sound filled the air—the sound of a massive freezer being hurled through the air. Seeing the multi-ton medical freezer hurtling toward him, Blonsky's face paled. He leaped aside just in time, narrowly dodging the projectile. The freezer slammed into the Storage Room door with a thunderous crash, completely blocking the soldiers outside.
Having dodged the flying behemoth, Blonsky quickly scanned his surroundings. As an elite soldier, he needed to know what was attacking him. But as he scanned the area, a green figure shot toward him like a gale.
With a swift swing of her arm, she sent Blonsky flying into a pile of bottles and jars like a kite. The green figure then scooped up Bruce and Betty from the ground and kicked through the thick wall, creating a massive opening. Like a green lightning bolt, she leaped out through the gaping hole and vanished into the night in just a few bounds.
Despite her speed, the sniper monitoring the area identified her: a female green giant.
"Sir, Target Two has appeared. She attacked the Tactical Team and fled with the targets and hostages from the third floor toward Broadway."
"Damn it!" General Ross cursed at the news, immediately barking orders at his subordinates.
"All lockdown personnel, stay alert. Launch all helicopters. Conduct a full-scale search of the target area. They won't get far."
With that, he left the command vehicle and walked toward the helicopter parked outside. This location no longer allowed him to maintain a proper grasp of the situation. He needed to stay close to the targets to make the right decisions at any moment.
After General Ross departed by helicopter, the soldiers began their own operations. At this point, the mission was the only thing that mattered, so no one paid any attention to Blonsky's condition. Not even the medics were there; they simply left him there.
And that was exactly what he needed.
He suddenly broke free from the wreckage. Blonsky, now beyond ordinary human capabilities, appeared unharmed. Yet he was seething with self-loathing. He had realized he was no match for either the Hulk or the second target. This realization sparked a new, desperate idea: to become even stronger. General Ross's super-soldier serum was no longer enough; he craved a power like the Hulk's.
Just then, he spotted Samuel.
